00:00The Amish face many challenges, including the high cost of land, which pushes many away from farming toward working in shops.
00:11Here in the central market, young men and women sell their local products, attracting visitors from all around.
00:19I grew up in Lancaster. I think the market is such a great part of our history.
00:23It's actually the oldest, largest, continuously operating market in the country.
00:30So that's a really cool thing.
00:31The Amish today work with other people.
00:35They participate in community activities, especially with local fire companies.
00:42All of our fire companies are volunteer.
00:45The Amish have lovely farms, and they have farm buildings, barns, and they need protection.
00:51And so they cooperate with other people in the community as well.
01:00Some people confuse the Amish with the Mennonites, as both share European roots and have similar beliefs.
01:17They are essentially spiritual cousins.
