00:03because of the restrictions we're seeing in the Straits of Hormuz
00:07should build up some delayed courage and take it.
00:12So should countries go on their own to get their own oil?
00:16And of course, there's massive military risk involved in this.
00:20No, they should not.
00:21I think the diplomatic community pretty much knows that.
00:25You know, Donald Trump said it, quote,
00:27the USA won't be there to help you anymore.
00:31Now, I would ask, was the U.S. there for Ukraine?
00:34Was the U.S. there for the Palestinians in Gaza?
00:37Or for the Palestinians in the West Bank?
00:39And some of those who were killed in the West Bank were American citizens.
00:45So the United States has also said, Donald Trump weeks ago,
00:50said that there was a bit of a red line for him.
00:52And if the Iranian government were to go after some of the protesters in Iran,
00:57that, you know, the United States would be there to help.
01:01And of course, they weren't.
01:02So when Donald Trump speaks on social media,
01:05it does make me think of my father, bless him,
01:11who was born in 1938.
01:12He's going to be 88 this year.
01:14And sometimes he says things that an older man might say,
01:18where he's a little bit tone deaf.
01:21He's maybe a little bit unable to read the room.
01:23And he says those quiet bits out loud.
01:26And when Donald Trump goes on social media,
01:29in my mind, I see a man who is there with his phone,
01:34hitting one of the buttons so that it's all caps.
01:38And then he goes off on a bit of a reality TV type rant.
01:43Now, I remember when I was studying English as an undergrad in Canada,
01:49Charles Dickens was one of my favourite authors.
01:51And when he started out, he was writing for monthly magazines.
01:56And he always had to have those cliffhangers
02:00that would encourage the consumer to pick up the next edition of the magazine.
02:07And I kind of feel like Donald Trump has that same sort of mentality
02:11where he goes off on a bit of a rant,
02:14creating this incredible drama
02:17so that people will think that this post on Truth Social
02:22is incredibly important.
02:24And of course, just by it coming from the President of the United States,
02:28it does carry a certain amount of weight, maybe even gravitas.
02:33But Donald Trump has to up it a little bit more.
02:36And that, I think, is not the best way, unfortunately, to conduct diplomacy.
02:42So when he encourages those who didn't stand by the US
02:46to go and get the oil that he and the American military
02:50have, in Donald Trump's mind, sort of laid out on a platter for all the allies,
02:56that's not the best way.
02:58And I would certainly not encourage,
03:00not that anybody is thinking of doing this,
03:02but that's not the way that friends, allies would conduct business with each other.
