00:14She is a makeup artist and costumer, and she is going to transform me into a mermaid.
00:22I wanted to be a mermaid because I want to be glamorous and beautiful, but otherworldly,
00:30you know what I'm saying, like I'm not a human.
00:33So I think she's going to give me glittery, shiny scales, I'm going to get wigged up, and
00:42I think I'm going to ask her to give me a fish hook, because somebody caught me, alright?
00:48It's going to get real dark, real fast, for my costume.
00:52I'm ready!

00:54What do we do first?
00:55Okay, first we're going to prep your face.
00:57This is Mara Badescu of Rosewater.
00:59Okay.
01:00We're going to be putting a lot of body paint on you.
01:05Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
01:11So right now what we're doing is creating a base, foundation, concealer.
01:17What is this called?
01:19Just setting powder.
01:20Setting powder, and that will prep my face for the body paint.
01:26Yeah.
01:27So now I'm just using a sponge, and we're going to add white.
01:30Oh, man.
01:31So white is going to act as our base, so that we can make sure we have a really great shading.
01:36Color payoff.
01:37Yes, and gradient.
01:38Like, I know your foundation's brown, but the white paint actually sticks better to foundation
01:43in your natural skin.
01:48So how did you choose, like, the color scheme for this particular mermaid?
01:53Oh, I want it.
01:56When I asked you and you didn't know, I started thinking of the sunset.
02:00Oh.
02:03So this net is really affordable, but you want to use the bigger one first.
02:08Okay.
02:09And get some cool detail.
02:10Okay.
02:11So now we've actually put in about three different colors of orange and a little bit of red, and
02:22now I'm about to go through with some purple to give it a really good sunset look.
02:26All right.
02:27So we're going to reveal what it looks like.
02:32Normally, we want it more defined, but you can kind of see it right here in the middle.
02:35You see the yellow through it.
02:37So what I'm going to go through now is, with the smaller brush, go ahead and add a little
02:41bit of those lighter lines in between to make sure that they're standing up.
02:47Now put it down to your chin.
02:49All right.
02:50So now we're taking the scale effect with the smaller one.
02:54I know.
02:55It's a lot, but this is the technique that you see the most online.
03:00All right.
03:07So now we have an even smaller effect to go along with the bigger ones.
03:12So it just gets more depth.
03:14And yeah.
03:15So once we start layering on the pearls and glitter and stuff, this is going to be fire.
03:20Okay.
03:21All right.
03:22So we're just going to add some primer in key places.
03:35And the primer will help the glitter stick.
03:38Mm-hmm.
03:39Yes.
03:40Glitter.
03:41Yes.
03:42Because how can we be a really little glitter, right?
03:45Because the mermaids are like a little bit luxurious glittering places where humans don't deserve glitter.
03:59So now we have a little flakiness.
04:12It's like iridescent little pieces of seaweed now.
04:15Some rhinestones.
04:16Yes.
04:17Yes, too.
04:18I'm going to add some small particles now.
04:20Yes.
04:21Because I live in the sea, you know what I'm saying?
04:22Mm-hmm.
04:23So we have to have some realism tied in with the fantasy.

04:25That's what sells costumes every year.

04:28So now we have our full mermaid look.
04:33This actually has the rhinestones and some barnacles included.
04:38It just helps her look a little bit creepy and actually from the sea.

04:55So now I made like a little hook with a little bit of latex on the end and we're going to

05:06So I'm going to go ahead and put a little bit of liquid latex on her face and start laying
05:10it down.

05:12So we have some fake blood going on and that is chocolate.

05:18And food coloring.
05:19This is the attention to detail.

05:22This is not fresh one.
05:23This is because you know, I've had the hook in my face for a minute.

05:28And they're just dragging you up in the net.
05:30This is so, oh, oh please.
05:35Oh my goodness.
05:36I don't even mind that.
05:37I just got hooked.
