00:06I know you're probably thinking, girl, you got braids. Don't worry, I have a solution.
00:10These next few Watch and Go's for the month of August and September will feature brands from Texture on the Runway.
00:15It is our annual hair and fashion show that's held in September.
00:18In this episode, I'll be using Carol's daughter and reviewing season one of Insecure.
00:23Saudi, it's my birthday, but no one cares because I'm not having a party, because I'm feeling sorry for myself.
00:33I just want to be more confident. Brave me. I want to be that person.
00:38I love these Fendi's. I have a problem. Converse.
00:42I have a problem. I love how you just like don't even care.
00:45So, I haven't had braids in a very long time, and usually I start these wash and go's out by washing and conditioning my hair.
00:54But I have these braids in, which probably need to come out. I don't need y'all's comments about my baby hairs.
00:59So, I think I'm going to start by cleansing my hair.
01:01So, I'm going to use this clarifying scalp treatment.
01:06I know y'all are all hyped because Insecure is so good, right?
01:08It's based on, loosely based, I guess, on Awkward Black Girl.
01:11Insecure was inspired by Awkward Black Girl. Awkward Black Girl was Issa Rae's YouTube series, and everybody fell in love with it.
01:18It was great. I loved it.
01:20And so, Insecure came out of that. Now she's on HBO.
01:23She's goals, dreams, hopes, you know, all of those things.
01:26Insecure is about two best friends and their shenanigans in life and their dating relationships, work.
01:32Molly, played by Yvonne, is basically the really successful black woman who's also,
01:39she's really successful at work, but not so much successful in relationships.
01:44They kind of make her a hoe, I guess. That's what they, they called her a hoe.
01:47I didn't call her a hoe. I don't believe in slut-shaming or whatever.
01:50She's basically a hoe, but she's so, like, great at her job, and she's such a great friend.
01:56So, I guess those qualities make up for the fact that she'd just be like, you know,
01:59see what's out there.
02:01And Issa, it has a relationship.
02:04You know, she seems to be doing well in relationships and catching dudes.
02:07Jay Ellis is the character Lawrence.
02:10Lawrence is her boyfriend.
02:12He ain't got no job. He got laid off.
02:14And, you know, she's giving him a chance, right?
02:16But he's, like, not trying to find a job.
02:18And so she, you know, serendipitously meets a man named Daniel.
02:22An old friend, really. An old fling.
02:25And Daniel happens to be attracted.
02:28It's just comical, really.
02:30It's sad. It's heartbreaking. It's comical.
02:31But more importantly to me is not necessarily Issa's relationship with the men in her life,
02:36but her relationship with her friend.
02:39We haven't seen a lot of black girlfriendships since Girlfriends.
02:43And so to see this play out on, like, HBO is really great.
02:48All right, I think I put this all over my head now.
02:50It's just nice to have something cooling on your scalp.
02:53And so I'm just gonna keep doing this.
02:55It feels good.
02:56You know, you ain't gonna...
02:58This is legit.
03:00So now I'm just going to apply this calming tension spray.
03:03I don't have a lot of tension because, like I told y'all,
03:06your girl was running her head under hot water, cold water.
03:09I don't believe in tension.
03:10I won't be the one who's losing her edges.
03:12But I do like a nice spray because I feel like it adds a little body to it.
03:16And, you know, you can air it out, which is real nice.
03:18You get a little air on your scalp.
03:19Yes, this is nice.
03:21There isn't really a reason I wouldn't recommend you watching Insecure
03:24unless you feel some kind of way about cursing.
03:26Unless you feel some kind of way about, like, sex.
03:30Sex scenes.
03:31If you're like, oh no, sex.
03:33But if you're into comedy, Issa raps.
03:35And she got bars.
03:36But it's for everybody.
03:37You need to get over it.
03:38It's great.
03:39Go get you an HBO subscription.
03:40Don't be cheap and trifling.
03:41Don't be trying to, like, download the episodes from your friend
03:44through, like, a proxy server.
03:46Do better.
03:48I actually have HBO through my mama, so I can't even...
03:50I can't even lie.
03:51I'm not buying it.
03:53My least favorite character is Lawrence.
03:56Whatever.
03:58I know y'all are like, oh, but, you know, Lawrence, he loved her.
04:03If he loved her, he would have got a job.
04:04I get patience, right?
04:05Everybody should be patient, you know, with your relationship.
04:08Things happen.
04:09But how long are you going to be patient?
04:11Plus, she seemed like she didn't want to...
04:12I mean, Issa was wrong for what she did, right?
04:15She should have just broke up with him.
04:16But I feel like she was patient, and I feel like he wasn't responding.
04:19And then now he gets a job, and now he's, like, taking his life to a whole nother level.
04:23But it's like, bro, you should have done that a long time ago.
04:24Like I said, y'all, pride comes before a fall.
04:27And Lawrence didn't listen.
04:28He did what he wanted to do.
04:29He was like, oh, no, I'm going to figure my way out of it, and she'll just have to be patient.
04:33And it's like, this is a relationship, and y'all have responsibilities,
04:37and if she's covering all the responsibilities, then you being trifling.
04:39I agree.
04:40He should not be cheated on.
04:41There should be no but.
04:42Period.
04:42He shouldn't have been cheated on.
04:44Also, he should have got a job.
04:47I'm going to tame these baby hairs.
04:50I have this little baby hairbrush, and I'm going to use the Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Edge Control Smoother.
04:57Now, what I would do next is style my hair.
04:59I'm going to show you guys a couple of styles that I wear on a regular basis.
05:05I'll take two pieces like this, move all this to the front, and then take a scrunchie or whatever.
05:11And I would do this, right, because that's cute.
05:14Then, if you want to spice it up a little bit, you want to be youthful.
05:17If you're one of those 3C girls who've always loved your ninja buns and you can't get rid of it,
05:21you can create like a cute little ninja bun.
05:22You can rock this, you know what I'm saying?
05:24That's kind of cute.
05:25Then you can bring it all the way to the tippy top.
05:28Make a big roll out of it.
05:30Drag all those hairs around.
05:32Usually, you can use the little hairs to make it stick, but if you're going to do more than this with your head,
05:37you need to put one of these on.
05:39I would give Insecure Season 1 a 5 out of 5.
05:42It tells the story of California.
05:44It tells the story of friendships and relationships.
05:46If you haven't seen it, watch it.
