00:00A purported ransom note and the disappearance of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy,
00:04contained chilling details from the night she was allegedly abducted, authorities said.
00:09The note, sent to a local Arizona news station, contained details about the 84-year-old matriarch's
00:14home near Tucson and what she was wearing on the night of her disappearance, Pima County Sheriff
00:18Chris Nanos told CBS News, although he declined to give any specifics. Nanos refused to say
00:24whether the note was legitimate or if the details it provided matched the crime scene where drops
00:28of blood visible in scene footage from News Nation as well as signs of forced entry were found.
00:33It was not clear whose blood it was. It isn't clear if the purported note sent to CBS affiliate in
00:39Arizona, which chose not to report the exact contents of it, is the same that was sent to TMZ on February
00:443rd. The note to TMZ provided a deadline for the ransom payment in Bitcoin for her safe return
00:51and implied something sinister would befall Nancy if the towering sum wasn't paid. In an emotional
00:57interview on February 3rd, the sheriff became choked up when asked if the operation was still a search
01:02and rescue. Do you believe you are still looking for Nancy Guthrie alive at this point?
01:07Oh, I don't, I, you know, we're just not going to give up hope. We, we, we hope she's, she's,
01:16she's out there somewhere. So you still believe this is an active rescue mission at this point?
01:22We hope so. According to authorities, a relative made a 911 call around noon on February 1st to
01:31report Nancy Guthrie was missing after she failed to show up for a church service. She was last seen
01:36by Savannah's brother-in-law, Tommaso, after he dropped Nancy off at her home in Catalina Foothills,
01:42north of Tucson, at around 9.30 p.m. on January 31st after a dinner, authorities said.
01:47On February 3rd, FBI agents were spotted at Tommaso and Savannah Guthrie's sister Annie's home in
01:53Arizona as the search for their missing mother continues. Savannah was also believed to have
01:58been there. The elder Guthrie was not known to have illnesses such as dementia or Alzheimer's
02:03and was of good sound mind. However, she was described as being in not of good physical health.
02:08She cannot walk more than 50 yards on her own and is reliant on life-saving medication,
02:13a lack of which for 24 hours could prove fatal, making the hunt a race against time.
02:19On Monday, February 2nd, authorities confirmed the case was officially being investigated as a crime.
02:24It is a crime scene. We know that. She is very limited in her mobility, right? We know she didn't
02:30just walk out of there. That is that we know. There are other things at the scene that indicate
02:35that there was a... She did not leave on her own. We know that.
02:41Her daughter, Today Anchor Savannah Guthrie, skipped the February 2nd Monday episode of the NBC
02:46Morning Talk Show. However, she shared a statement that was aired regarding her mom being missing.
02:51On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support.
02:57Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.
03:01Nancy has made various guest appearances on Today over the years since Savannah joined the show in 2011.
03:08She loves us, her family, fiercely, and her selflessness and sacrifice for us.
03:13Her steadfastness and her unmovable confidence is the reason any of us grew up to do anything.
