00:00There was a point where I was like, he's kind of an anti-hero to me.
00:03Like, I really understand where he's coming from.
00:05And I guess it just started to feel, like, inappropriate for the show.
00:09I was like, I think functionally, we need to create someone who feels much, much, much more dangerous.
00:15And someone who Nick really has to come up against.
00:18Someone who, it just became more interesting to me to be like, what if this guy feels no remorse?
00:26You're in no shape for this fight that lies before us.
00:28Old friend.
00:30This is personal.
00:43How you doing today, Kingsley?
00:44Oakley, what's happening?
00:46I'm good, man.
00:47So tell me, man, how does it feel to now be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
00:52Great.
00:53Feels great.
00:55Yeah.
00:55So for my next question, how has the role of Gravik differed from other characters that you play in the past?
01:02It's completely different.
01:03I've never played a villain before.
01:06I've never played someone this dark.
01:08I've never played anyone who, I don't think I've played anyone who's shot anyone, you know?
01:14I think maybe one episode of something I did years ago, I had a gun.
01:17But everyone's kind of been morally righteous or sensitive in some way.
01:24This guy is completely different.
01:26It's a real dark mother...
01:30So tell me, do you feel that Gravik is totally a villain, though?
01:35I feel like sometimes there's a method to his madness.
01:38Do you feel he's just totally a villain, though?
01:40I think for the show, there was a moment where I was like, I think as an actor, you shouldn't kind of judge the character too much.
01:51You're trying to understand why they behave the way they do.
01:54You're trying to understand the reasoning behind the behavior.
01:58And there was a point where I was like, he's kind of an anti-hero to me.
02:01Like, I really understand where he's coming from.
02:03And I guess it just started to feel, like, inappropriate for the show.
02:07I was like, I think functionally we need to create someone who feels much, much, much more dangerous.
02:14And someone who Nick really has to come up against.
02:17Someone who, it just became more interesting to me to be like, what if this guy feels no remorse?
02:24Like, what if this guy is just like, he's just on his own thing.
02:28His whole existence is about inflicting pain, particularly on fury and Talos.
02:35And what happens if he trusts no one?
02:39What happens if he likes or loves no one?
02:42What if that stopped a long time ago?
02:45Like, and to kind of build around his feeling that these two men, these two leaders who let him down, are absolute hypocrites.
02:53And that his feelings towards Skrulls and humans and dogs, cats, anyone, it's all gone.
03:01He's gone.
03:02Like, we meet this guy.
03:04He's over the line.
03:06And, like, to pull him back, I just felt creating someone who, you feel like there's no chance for that.
03:13Just felt more in tune with, like, supporting the tone of the show.
03:18So then creatively with the writers and stuff, I was like, we've got to get all of this sentimentality out, you know.
03:25And to start playing against it and to create, like, a sub layer of something going on underneath.
03:32And my feeling was that that's just going to be more satisfying.
03:35Like, you want the audience to be like, someone needs to put a bullet in his head or, like, lock him up real quick.
03:42Like, and then I was like, okay, now, cool, he's a villain now, you know.
03:47Not a righteous leader.
03:50He's a real manipulator of his people.
03:54So with this being the start of the fifth phase of the MCU universe, what can our viewers expect from Secretive Age?
04:03Something a little darker, maybe.
04:06Something a little bit more adult.
04:11Six hours in, where in, in, in huge parts of the show, there's lots of conversation where you get to understand Nick Fury and who he is in a much bigger way.
04:24Personally.
04:25Yeah, I just think that what was, what was great about this was that so many of the relationships that Nick has with all of these characters are explored.
04:38Well, Kingsley, thank you, my brother.
04:40I appreciate you, man.
04:41It's an amazing series.
04:43I hope well for you.
04:44Thank you, you too.
