00:00You know, there's a lot of things that give me pause and keep me up at night.
00:03Certainly being able to sufficiently staff the organization is a continuous challenge
00:09for us.
00:10But then from more of a threat level, certainly we have a substantial gang population, although
00:16we've been able to do, I think, a tremendous job in reducing gang violence, reducing crime
00:21overall.
00:22We're down this past year, we're down to 230 murders, which is 230 too many.
00:27But it puts us back at 1966 levels.
00:31What are people worried about?
00:32The uncertainty of going into an area and having a smash and grab or a street takeover, or dealing
00:40with somebody who is unpredictable on the street who may be dealing with mental health issues.
00:45Those are the kind of things that I think create a level of anxiety that is not supported by
00:50the numbers relative to incidents of crime.
00:53So we need to do a better job in being able to tell our story, and in some cases to change
01:00the narrative from what it has been into something where the public better understands what their
01:06police officers are doing for them every day on their behalf.
01:08We need to do a better job on their behalf.
01:09We need to do a better job on their behalf.
