00:00What's up Essence? It's me, Empress. Welcome back to Black Girl with Me, a show where we try new things out so you don't have to.
00:09Alright, so quickly, I am a real city girl, okay? I like things fast and I like them convenient.
00:16This week, I am pushing myself to try something new. I am going to take three days camping, hiking, and rock climbing with the Camp Yoshi team.
00:25I'm going to see what happens when I get quiet, get centered, and take some time away from my computer and work.
00:32I'm hoping that I find myself or I find something deeply within myself that I've never seen before.
00:40Join me. Let's see what happens.
00:43Okay, I admit, I struggle with the idea of setting up my own tent and sleeping outdoors.
00:50The Camp Yoshi team made sure we were comfortable and warm by giving us a mattress pad, an insulated sleeping bag, and a blanket.
00:57The first night, I freaked out a little bit.
01:00The reality of being in the desert with no protection from the wilderness had me thinking that every noise I heard was an animal.
01:06By the time I woke up the next morning, the second reality kicked in. Boom!
01:10We had no running water and a bathroom system with a trash can inside of a tent.
01:15I toughed it out, though.
01:16I did my morning routine outdoors, and the kitty litter in the bathroom was a game changer.
01:22Camp Yoshi softened the blow by cooking us three delicious meals a day.
01:26We played games by the campfire, and we had a mixologist on deck after every hike.
01:31Speaking of hiking, let's talk about it!
01:33We hiked every single day and sometimes twice a day, which was beyond my comfort zone.
01:39However, these fly Adidas Tarex hiking shoes were my saving grace.
01:43The entire trip, I kept saying, it's the grip for me.
01:47The shoes were exceptional at keeping me balanced as I navigated new terrains.
01:51I overcame fears this trip.
01:53I literally reached new heights.
01:56I found clarity when I journaled.
01:58I did yoga on the mountain, and I marveled at the beauty of the sunset without obstructive views.
02:03By the end of this trip, I found myself leading the pack down the mountain like a pro.
02:09So is camping black girl approved?
02:12It's a yes for me.
02:14Taking time to release the chaos of everyday life, to reconnect to yourself while in nature,
02:19is the remedy for modern black women.
02:21My only suggestion is that you do it with style.
02:26Yo, Empress killed it, the champ.
02:28She was present, she survived, the energy, her smile.
02:33Honestly, her willingness to explore and trust us, I thought it was amazing.
02:37And honestly, showing up at Camp Gale, she's just being yourself and also getting out of your comfort zone.
02:41And I feel like Empress and all the other campers killed it.
02:51And I feel like Empress and all the other campers killed it, and I feel like Empress and all the other campers killed it.
