00:00What's up Essence? My name is Empress Bernardo and I'm the senior social producer here at Essence.
00:05And welcome to Black Girl Approved, where we try trends and celebrity hacks so you don't have to.
00:12And we'll let you know if it's approved or not. So this week, The Woman King has officially
00:18released in theaters. And I decided to try the intense training that the ladies did in order to
00:25prepare for their roles as warriors. I'm excited about this movie because it's important for me to
00:30see the beauty, power, and diversity of Black women across the globe. And The Woman King has all of that
00:36goes into fun. Monday, I did kickboxing and it was tough. Tuesday, I found a personal trainer to walk
00:43me through the workouts. We did three short strength training circuits. Wednesdays, I did weights at
00:49home and I added eight pound ankle weights to help me feel the burn. Thursday, I wanted to feel like
00:55the warrior. I took fencing classes and let me tell you, I'm going back. And I want to graduate
01:00into sport fighting. It is my thing. And on Friday, I rested. I jumped in that pool and I just let my
01:07body float. All right, Essence. So I know the big question is, was this Black Girl approved or not?
01:13And I'll let you know that it absolutely is Black Girl approved. The workouts were rigorous, but it was
01:19honestly worth it. My body feels good and you can see the goal for yourself. Get into it,
01:25friends.
