00:00Let's get it Vaughn! Despite rupture at ACL, Defiant Lindsey says she's going for the gold.
00:06I need everybody in the sports world to brace yourselves for what could be the greatest comeback during a comeback in the history of sports,
00:14but we all still need to manage our expectations.
00:17Just so we're all clear of the extent of the injuries and what's at stake for Lindsey,
00:23I spoke to a sports orthopedic surgeon at NYU Langone Health to break it all down for us.
00:30Look, I think it's a win-win for her, right?
00:32Look, she's a warrior. She's going to do it.
00:35Even if she fails trying, right?
00:38She tried. It's her last shot.
00:41She said this is her last Olympics.
00:43So for me, from a psychological standpoint, everything is in her favor.
00:48She doesn't do it or can't do it.
00:50She's a warrior for trying.
00:52She does it, gets through it, actually medals.
00:55She goes down in history as one of the most incredible athletes to have ever skied.
01:02My gosh, it's an uphill battle, no pun intended.
01:06But in the eyes of an athlete, there's no such thing as a win-win situation.
01:11We don't walk into competition with built-in excuses.
01:14It's either win or lose.
01:16I mean, Daryl Rivas once said it, if I'm out there, I'm 100%.
01:20But what this could potentially be is the Lindsey Vonn legacy moment that we all athletes dream of as kids.
01:28She has the chance to pull off what only the greats, what only the elites pull off.
01:33I'm talking 2008 Tiger Woods, U.S. Open, torn ACL and double stretch fractures in his left tibia.
01:40And he still played four rounds plus a full 18-hole playoff and a sudden death hole to win his 14th major.
01:48Carrie Strue, 1996 Atlanta Olympics, two torn ligaments and a third-degree lateral sprain in her ankle on her first vault attempt.
01:57With a gold medal on the line, she limps back to the runway for a second vault.
02:03She stuck the landing on one foot, saluted the judges, and then she collapsed.
02:09They say an athlete dies twice in life, once when we retire and the other when we move on to the afterlife.
02:16Lindsey Vonn wants to go out on her own terms, and for that, I salute her.
02:21As of right now, she's scheduled to compete in five events out in Italy.
02:26And we'll all be watching.
02:28This is MuchSeeTV.
02:30I smell Netflix documentary.
