00:00For me, you know I'm an artist, so we sample a lot of oldies but goodies.
00:05We sample a lot of classic records.
00:07So it was like by the time we chop, screw, and do all these different things, we then
00:11add our own melody, and we add our own flow, we add our own bass line, we add our own couple
00:15instruments and our own background vocals.
00:17So I think that it was really dope to know that this is what was happening in movie form.
00:22You know, and it was something that I wanted to be a part of.
00:24And I knew that I could relate to Imani's character and I could really, you know, tap
00:30into her.
00:31And it was something different, you know?
00:32When people see my name attached to it, they originally thought, of course, them thinking
00:36it was a remake, like, oh yeah, she's going to be Rosie Perez, she's going to be Rosie Perez,
00:39you know?
00:40So it was really dope to kind of like go the complete opposite and yeah, and just for us
00:45to make everything into our own.
00:47But it was almost the first.
00:48I'm going to go tomorrow.
00:49I forgot.
00:50Why don't you just go now?
00:51It'll be fine.
00:52Hey, don't worry, mommy.
00:53Don't worry, mommy.
00:55Don't worry, mommy.
00:56Every hooper I know is entering that big-ass tournament where the winner get 500,000.
00:59I just need somebody who can play so I can make some money.
01:02You're joking, right?
01:04500,000 for one day of hoop.
01:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:07You're a rock.
01:08We can hustle a few games together to get the money for the entry fee.
01:11I'll find some marks.
01:12Those short shorts look incredible on you.
01:13Throw them off their game.
01:14You have an OnlyFest?
01:15And we'll clean up.
01:16You going to wear that trash bag?
01:17You going to wear that fake-ass Richard Simmons outfit?
01:19Oh!
01:20No.
01:21I don't know, bro.
01:22I bet y'all got more in common than me.
01:24Release for me.
01:25Release for me.
01:26I doubt that.
01:27That's enough jokes.
01:28Then the sun dies.
01:29Don't spend any money until we can cover the field.
01:32I should be saying that to you.
01:33Well, I'm good with money.
01:34So am I.
01:35So am I.
01:36Me too.
01:37Word.
01:38Word, bro.
01:39My first question.
01:40How does it feel to be attached to such an iconic film remake?
01:44To be able to retell this film is an honor.
01:48Genuinely, I think for all of us.
01:50And I think that's why when people say this, we've said so many different versions of answers
01:54throughout this process.
01:55And like we say, it's a love letter to Los Angeles.
01:58But it's a love letter to the movie that came before us.
02:00And we all understood it.
02:01We all understood that we were retelling stories and living in iterations of characters that
02:05were created before.
02:06And we're adapting them.
02:07We're remixing them.
02:08And we're making it something new now.
02:10So for me, it was an honor.
02:11But I think we all understood the responsibility.
02:13So for you, Ms. Tiana, I have a question.
02:15Now, you're very calculated in the roles that you choose.
02:18What initially sparked your interest to choose this role?
02:21Well, one, you know, just the history of it.
02:24You know, I wanted to be a part of it.
02:26Reading the script, I thought it was really amazing.
02:28I love the fact that it wasn't necessarily like a remake.
02:32You get what I'm saying?
02:33It was more of a remix.
02:34Like you said, it being a love letter to the original movie.
02:36It's funny because you say that.
02:37Because when people would ask, when we were going through the process and people start
02:41hearing more conversation about it in the social media world, and they were like,
02:44you know, so who's playing Rosie?
02:46I'm like, well, we got two women in it.
02:48I don't know if we got like a true Rosie.
02:50He's like, y'all don't have a Rosie.
02:51I was like.
02:52You just gotta let them see.
02:53You just gotta see it.
02:54Yeah, you know what?
02:55And then after that, I was like, you know what?
02:56We're all Rosie.
02:57We're all Rosie.
02:58Rosie is a metaphor.
02:59Yeah, but because of like, you know, she has such a big personality, a big presence.
03:04And they thought it was you.
03:05Yeah.
03:06Yeah.
03:07They thought.
03:08No, I'm saying what you just said.
03:10So single, I got a question for you, my brother.
03:13Talk to me, bro.
03:14Sports movies are interesting to me, man, you know, because they have a lot of scenes.
03:18Are you good at basketball for real, man?
03:20Was it stunt doubles?
03:21You know what, man?
03:22I think, you know, the fun fact and the people, I guess that's the thing.
03:25I didn't know that people didn't know this, but a lot of the questions are, you know,
03:29what's something that the audience doesn't know about me?
03:31And I think the audience may not know that I played college basketball.
03:35So stepping in and playing this movie, like it was something that was already kind of familiar to me.
03:40And then what I had to really do is like get back into the consistency of playing ball, like to that level every day.
03:47I mean, in the frequency, because you're, you are literally putting your body through a marathon.
03:52So as far as like the skill work and the jump shots and the in and out cross and the step back and all those things,
03:59that was naturally me because I had a little bit of that experience.
04:02You know, I played at a moderate level of basketball.
04:06So I had that experience going ahead of it.
04:08So Tiana, let me know, what can viewers expect from White Men Can't Jump?
04:12They can expect to, for it to feel like home.
04:16You know what I'm saying?
04:17I think that is very relatable.
04:19And also think like with this generation and where people, you know, how men's views and women's views,
04:27I think that, you know, not only is it a love letter to LA, but it's also just like a love letter to just people that love love
04:34and showing that men can be vulnerable and that, you know, men can be egoless and prideless when it comes to the people that they love.
04:42And I feel like this film showed that, that you two people that love one another could really be real teammates in life.
04:50You know, and I think that to me being a teammate in life is literally the biggest and most important sport of all.
