00:00I was never alone.
00:02I was mentored by some of the strongest black actresses of their time.
00:08Virginia Capers, Tony Award winner on Broadway, Rosalind Cash, movie after movie, the woman
00:16who stood up and said, my hair is my crown, and if I want to grow it out of my head the
00:22way it grows out naturally, that is how I will wear it.
00:25The industry tried to blackball her because she stood up for her locks and her natural
00:31hair.
00:32The beauty of a Beverly Todd and a Judy Pace, these women were around me, they were speaking,
00:40they were taking up space, and I never felt alone.
00:45But I've also been the kind of person, I ask for what I want, and especially if that is
00:50help and direction, and they just happen to be the kind of spirits that could give it
00:56to me.
