00:00With no mercy.
00:01Where is it?
00:02Where is who?
00:04Your boss.
00:04My boss.
00:06Clearly, you don't know me.
00:11I heard Rufus Buck was back.
00:15There ain't no rule to ask a friend to travel.
00:18You think destiny's coming to you?
00:24Everyone I've talked to has had just an interesting story of kind of getting involved in the film
00:28and James kind of calling them up like, you're this person, you're that person, you know,
00:32I want you for this.
00:33So I'm curious for each of you how you got attached to the project and what was the biggest draw for you?
00:38James is the draw, you know, this is his vision and Idris will tell you how long it's been his vision.
00:47And he's just his passion about telling this story and his unique take on how all of these real life people come together
01:01and kind of reimagining these people's lives together was really interesting.
01:09And it was a history lesson in so many ways for me.
01:12Yeah, I've been a friend of James for almost 15 years, but 10 years ago, roughly 11 years ago,
01:20he had this mad concept in his head.
01:23He had all this information about all these characters that had been historically wiped off the map
01:30and he had a mission and he I didn't get, you know, I didn't, you know, he told me I was in the movie
01:36and you are playing Rufus Buck. I was like, who, you know, and so here we are today.
01:44Okay.
01:45And you both have, you know, some sort of physical scenes where Idris, you really just beat Dion Cole,
01:51but Regina, you and Sassy, you know, have a really intense fight.
01:56Can you talk about prepping for that and just the physicality?
01:59Yeah, I mean, it was a tough thing because we were shooting this film during a pandemic.
02:06So not just the fight, but everything was not like anything we've experienced before,
02:15even though, especially with Idris and I, we've been doing this for so many years.
02:20And then all of a sudden, those things that you do lean on in between takes and things like that,
02:26just to refuel yourself don't exist anymore.
02:30So that was tough.
02:32And the normal prep, fright prep that you would do, we weren't able to do because social distancing.
02:40And so we just kind of had to rely on having wonderful stunt doubles that agreed with us,
02:51that we needed to find a way to meet together without everyone else so we can go through this fight together.
03:01And there you have it.
03:04It was really tough.
03:06It was an amazing fight.
03:08And it has so much vibrancy in weird ways, like color and, you know, just the reactiveness
03:16and then the raw emotion of each of your characters.
03:19I really love that fight.
03:21By the way, Brad, I just want to let you know that Dion hit me first.
03:25Okay, that's true.
03:27Yes.
03:29That's fair.
03:31And lastly, you know, ensemble, there's such strong characters.
03:34Everyone leaves a lasting impression, no matter how long they're on.
03:38If each of you had to be a different character, other than Rufus and Trudy, who would you want to be?
03:45I'd be Rufus.
03:46I would be RJ's character.
03:57Oh, Jim Beckwood.
03:58Yes.
03:59Beckwood.
04:00He was amazing.
04:01That was so fun.
04:03And just seeing him with the tricks and the blam blam and all that, I love the character.
04:07And the thing that's so exciting about that, and this is just my actor appreciation moment, you know, RJ is an example of why stories cannot be told without actors.
04:21James laid it out, and it's on the page, but Jim Beckwood, RJ's Jim Beckwood is not on the page.
04:32It can only come to life with RJ.
04:35Yes.
04:36I love hearing that.
04:37Well, thank you both so much.
04:38That's my time.
04:39But I appreciate you.
