00:01British Transport Police has changed its policy on investigating bike thefts at railway stations,
00:07following criticism that the offence had effectively been decriminalised.
00:11Under the new approach, officers will investigate cases where a bicycle can be identified on CCTV footage
00:17or where there has been a witness to the theft.
00:21Previously, British Transport Police said it would not investigate any bike thefts outside transport stations
00:26if a bike had been left for more than two hours or if it was worth less than ÂŁ200, unless special factors applied.
00:35Campaigners argued the policy meant station cycle facilities were not secure and deterred victims from reporting thefts.
