In Islam, actions are guided by clear rules to protect faith, discipline, and respect for worship. Haram means forbidden, and doing a haram act is sinful. Makruh means disliked, which should be avoided, but it is not sinful like haram. Understanding haram and makruh times of prayer is important so that Salah is offered correctly.

There are specific times when prayer is not allowed (haram). These are:

At sunrise – from when the sun starts rising until it rises completely.

At exact midday (Zawal) – when the sun is at its highest point, just before Zuhr time begins.

At sunset – from when the sun starts setting until it fully sets.
At these times, no optional (nafl) prayer is allowed, because the Prophet ﷺ strictly prohibited praying at these moments.

There are also makruh times, when prayer is disliked but not strictly forbidden. These include:

After Fajr prayer until sunrise

After Asr prayer until sunset
During these times, praying nafl prayers is disliked, but obligatory (fard) prayers, missed prayers (qada), or funeral prayers are allowed if needed.

The wisdom behind these rules is to differentiate Islamic worship from sun-worship practices and to maintain discipline and respect in prayer timings. By avoiding haram and makruh times, a Muslim ensures that their prayer is valid, respectful, and in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Understanding these rules helps Muslims pray with correct knowledge, sincerity, and obedience to Allah.

01:04Question. Explain the time of Fajr Prayer.
01:07Answer. Approximately one and a half hours before sunrise, a whiteness appears on the eastern horizon.
01:13It rises vertically. This is called Sub-Karib.
01:16Then a second whiteness appears, which spreads along the horizon, covering the eastern edge.
01:22This is called Sub-Saddik, or True Dawn.
01:27The time of Fajr begins with Sub-Saddik and lasts until sunrise.
01:31As soon as even a small edge of the sun appears, Fajr ends.
01:35Question. What is the recommended time for Fajr?
01:38Answer. When there is sufficient light to perform the prayer properly, according to Sunnah.

01:45Question. Explain the time of Fajr.
01:47Answer. It begins after the sun declines from its zenith.
01:52It continues until the shadow of everything, excluding the original noon shadow, becomes twice the length of the object.
01:58Question. Recommended time for Fajr.
02:01Answer. In summer, delay until heat decreases.
02:04In winter, pray at the beginning.
02:06Maghrib begins the moment the sun sets.
02:08It continues until the Shafak, or twilight, completely disappears from the sky.
02:14First, the redness fades, leaving a white glow.
02:17When this white twilight vanishes and the sky is uniform, Maghrib ends.
02:22Then, Isha time begins.
02:23It lasts until True Dawn appears.
02:26Ideally, try to pray Isha during the first third of the night.
02:29Now for Witter.
02:30It is prayed only after you have finished your Isha prayer.
02:33If you can wake up, pray Wichur late at night.
02:36If not, it is better to pray it before you go to sleep.
