00:00I definitely, in my purpose, this, you know, music, making music that the world can relate to
00:07and that women can relate to and that my fans can relate to, yes, I'm walking confidently in my purpose.
00:15I know that this is something God sent me to do because it wouldn't be so many trials and tribulations
00:21to get to Good Morning Gorgeous, you know, to get to a 15th album,
00:25to get to be able to act in a drama series like Ghost and find really dark places that I had to live for real in my life
00:34in order to pull a gun and really murder someone on the show.
00:39So I really had to walk through some real trials to get here, and that's why I know I'm supposed to be here.
00:45I wake up every morning and tell myself Good Morning Gorgeous
00:51The way I got to Good Morning Gorgeous this time around is because it's when you're never enough
01:10and nothing's never good enough and you can't ever get anything right to another human being,
01:16you start to realize that, okay, people are just never going to be satisfied.
01:23So I have to figure out a way to make myself satisfied, to say something positive to myself,
01:31to speak myself out of this hole of depression and misery and just wanting to please someone
01:38that just can't be pleased. So I had to find a word or words that didn't fit me completely,
01:49that I believed them, but something that I could hold on to, you know, because when you say the word
01:55gorgeous, you automatically think of, you know, a Halle Berry or Sally Richardson and her prime
02:01or Apollonia, those women, you know, that's what, when you say gorgeous, that goes to the faces that
02:06come to me. So I said, okay, I'm going to use that word because I think the same thing of those women,
02:11you know, and I'm going to say that to myself along with anything else. I'm feeling beautiful,
02:17smart, whatever, and, and, and, and keep speaking that to myself. And I found that when you speak
02:23positive words over yourself, they begin to manifest. They begin to grow and they, they begin to grow
02:29from the inside. You know, it's not just, I'm not looking in the mirror in the morning and like,
02:34oh my God, I'm gorgeous because that's, that's not true. I'm looking at my heart and in my soul and
02:39in my spirit in the morning when I'm looking in the mirror and going, wow, I like you. You, you really
02:46are a beautiful person. Good morning, gorgeous, you know? And so it's something that has to grow
02:51because it's been, it's been in the dark for so long, you know, it has, it had to grow. So that's how I
02:57got there. It was just from just being tired of not being enough. Now I definitely own that power
03:02that I'm a style and beauty icon to my culture, to the women that love me, to the women that come
03:08into the concerts with their hair, just like mine. I love the whole front row with the, whatever bob
03:13I'm wearing for the, for the time being, I walk in that now. I don't feel pressure anymore because
03:18I'm just saying what it is that I need to say. I mean, I, I always hope that people are going to
03:24receive it, but I can't go into the studio hoping that people are going to receive it. I have to go
03:27into the studio, believe in it, knowing that it's everything that I need, know I need to say.
03:32And then they always turn around and say, wow, Mary, we believe you. It's, it's just us too. So
03:38it's just really no more, it's no more pressure now. Not, not at this point. It's like, you like it,
03:42you like it, you don't, you don't. I love working with new artists. I, I, especially when I love and
03:47respect them is, and, and it's, it's, it's like the feeling is always mutual. They always feel the
03:53same about me. If I feel like something, if I feel like I love someone, they always love me the same
03:57way. And so it's just always just fulfilling. And it's just beautiful to say, you know, wow,
04:04her is amazing. Um, Ella Mae is amazing. Jasmine Sullivan been amazing. You know what I'm saying?
04:10It just feels good to be able to say that and see them and love them and hug them. And,
04:15and I don't know, I just, it just, it just, it just feels warm because we're supposed to do that
04:20in this industry. We're supposed to, you know, each one teach one, help one give, you know,
04:25to each other. I cannot say that I see another Mary J. Blige because there's only one Mary J.
04:32Blige. And, but there's so many Queens out there. There's so many people that don't have to be a next
04:38Mary J. Blige. You, you have people that are going to be whoever they are, you know, and that's it.
04:45You know what I mean? One thing is one thing. Like, do we have, we don't have to keep doing this
04:49another thing over and over again. Like there is no other Aretha Franklin. It's just not going to
04:54happen, you know? Um, so there's so, and I think it's unfair to, to always say to another artist,
05:01you want to be the next so-and-so. It's like kind of an insult, you know, to their talent and who
05:06they are and what they want to be in the world.
