00:00With Wingstop being more popular than it's ever been, it only makes sense for us to elevate.
00:06And that's what we're doing with the Staff Stop.
00:12And I want to start with this chicken wing shortage situation.
00:17You know, I think a lot of people thought this was like a joke, you know, or something kind of, you know, funny on social.
00:22But it's a very real issue.
00:24And as someone with business in that area, I'm sure you've been affected, you know, in a really tangible way.
00:28So can you kind of talk about why we're experiencing this shortage and what's kind of being done?
00:34Well, to me, it's an amazing experience.
00:39To me, it's a really amazing experience.
00:42And I think it's just a sign of the times.
00:46And with Wingstop being more popular than it's ever been, it only makes sense for us to elevate.
00:52And that's what we're doing with the Staff Stop.
00:54So Wings, to me, have been the bomb for, you know, as long as ever.
01:00I'm surprised it took this long to have a shorty shortage.
01:02I'm disappointed with all of my wing shortage.
01:05I'm disappointed with everybody else.
01:07But I just think it's a different time.
01:09Everybody back outside.
01:11Everybody back traveling.
01:12Everybody want to go get something to eat, post their pictures.
01:16You know, so it's a real exciting time.
01:18And like I say, I think there's nobody better deserving than my favorite, which is Wingstop.
01:23So here we go with Thighstop, baby.
01:25Okay.
01:26Nice.
01:26So tell us about what's happening with Thighstop.
01:29What are we doing?
01:30You know, it's bomb.
01:32To me, it's always been a wing number one, thigh number two, leg number three.
01:37That's what I eat.
01:38You know what I'm saying?
01:39That's what the big boy boss eat.
01:40You know, and I actually had my first lemon pepper thigh maybe a week, week and a half ago.
01:47I'm not sure.
01:48Something like that.
01:49Okay.
01:49And it took me to the next level.
01:52It's going to the next level.
01:54So we might as well prepare for the thigh shortage.
01:57Because it's going to be like that.
01:59You know what I'm saying?
02:00Okay.
02:01You convinced me I'm always a white meat eater, but you making me want to try this.
02:05I know.
02:06I know.
02:06I know.
02:07I know.
02:08You see my eyes?
02:09I know.
02:10Yo.
02:12I'll be a judge.
02:13The most tangible parts to me since I was young was always the wing, the thigh, and the leg.
02:20And I'm still the same way.
02:21I think that was just the way I was raised.
02:23I'm still the same way.
02:25And I'm excited for this, man.
02:27To me, I'm happy to be a part of this because I feel a part of this.
02:30Yeah.
02:31Wingstop is driving this.
02:33Right.
02:34Wingstop is driving this.
02:35And like I say, we had a different time.
02:37We back outside.
02:38You know, that's what we're saying.
02:39And that's how I slam.
02:40We back outside.
02:41And everybody, you know, just really coming out.
02:45And throughout the pandemic, Wingstop was able to remain open.
02:48Yeah.
02:49Continue to serve as customers.
02:50So I think the relationship really strengthened over the pandemic.
02:54It's a lot of people who I think weren't familiar with Wingstop, may have never heard of Wingstop.
02:58Because believe it or not, us being the number one wing supplier, it's still a lot of people that never heard of us.
03:05And that's what excites me the most.
03:07Yeah.
03:08And I mean, you've done an amazing job over the years of just putting people on, you know, to Wingstop.
03:14And I would love if you could talk about the opportunity you saw, you know, years ago when you decided to be a franchisee and just build wealth, you know, through this as a business.
03:23Right.
03:24And I think for me to do it the right way, I got to thank Charlie Morrison, first and foremost.
03:28You know, because he really fed my dream and he opened the door for the culture.
03:34Charlie Morrison knew I had no franchise experience.
03:37He knew I had no Wing experience.
03:40He knew what he did know was this dude has ambition and he got him a little bit of money.
03:46And he sat me down and gave me the game.
03:49And now I'm not sure how many franchises we are, but we most definitely up, you know, and we winning in a major way.
03:55And I say that to say this, I'm franchisees with other brands and I don't know the CEOs.
04:05I have no relationship with the CEO of Checkers, the chairman of Checkers, the VP of Checkers.
04:12You know, I don't have because that's not something I force.
04:15If it's organic, if it's natural, that's what it is.
04:18And that's why we're here.
04:19That's why I'm happy to play a small part in this.
04:22And, you know, it's game changing.
04:23Yeah.
04:24And you talked about, you know, you getting put on in this way, but I feel like you're about to do that with your next book, The Perfect Day to Boss Up.
04:31Can you talk about the motivation behind that?
04:34The motivation behind that really was me getting caught in the pandemic, waking up, you know, my tour being postponed for over a year.
04:42We had a 30, 40 day tour that, you know, I actually put together the tour.
04:47T.I., 2 Chainz, Boosie Badass.
04:50And it was six, seven major artists.
04:52And it was going to be possibly the biggest street tour of the year.
04:56It was titled Feed These Streets.
04:57We postponed that for a year.
05:00And I was, you know, in the process of recording my album.
05:03So I found myself with a lot of time.
05:06And so it's like, how do I make myself a better man, a better father, a better CEO, a bigger boss?
05:13And I really just started, began to jot down the things that I thought really separated me from the others.
05:18When I woke up early in the morning, 7 a.m., and began cutting my grass.
05:23You know, I got a 280 plus acre estate.
05:27And of course, my buddies get out there with me.
05:30And I'm not saying I'm on a little push-up.
05:32You know, I'm on a big John Deere.
05:35Right.
05:35I put in my windows, the A.C. blowing.
05:39But it's just the fact that I still find a way to remain hands-on, whether that's me being the CEO of the record label,
05:47whether that's me walking in a wing stop, sweeping and mopping myself while I'm getting 20 crispy lemon peppers fried,
05:54or whatever it is, I still find a way to remain hands-on.
05:58And I find joy in it.
05:59I don't look at it as, you know, this is hard work.
06:02Damn.
06:03I got to cut the grass.
06:04Damn.
06:05I got to cut the grass.
06:05It's really cool.
06:06Okay.
06:07And I want to ask, you know, about, like, downtime and even self-care,
06:11because I was just going over background.
06:13And we recently covered Jed Doc, which is amazing.
06:17And I'm just like, you have so much going on.
06:19Like, what, you know, how are you taking care of yourself?
06:22You know, Jed?
06:23You know, and to me, that's once again, that's one of the special things I love most about my situation is
06:30I'm upward close to 20 partnerships.
06:35Okay.
06:35Right?
06:36And the reason why I do this with no stress, you know, I was suffering from seizures a few years back.
06:43That's why I really had to take control of my health, my weight, you know, my diet.
06:47I still enjoy Wingstop.
06:49So I had to be a leader and, you know, lead by example.
06:52But once again, I only be a part of things that comes natural to me.
06:56Okay.
06:56You know, I had a big seven-figure offer to, you know, help take a tobacco company to another level.
07:03But I don't smoke cigarettes.
07:05I didn't want to be a part of that.
07:07I had to turn that down.
07:08If it's not something that comes organic, like chicken wings, like, you know, me working out and, you know, have a one meal replacement or whatever it is,
07:16it's got to be something that I really enjoy.
07:19And that way, it's something I do anyway.
07:21Yeah.
07:22So it's not even work.
07:23It's just maybe somebody filming it and posting it and throwing it back out there.
07:28But if it's something I already do, I want to do it.
07:30Okay.
07:31And I saw Mother's Day, you shouted out your mom, you know, naturally.
07:35But you called her a mentor, which I thought, you know, just really stuck out.
07:39And how has she shaped you, you know, as the businessman you are today?
07:42Well, you know, growing up, me and my sister in the household with my mom, she worked two jobs and on Wednesdays, the third one.
07:51Okay.
07:51And, you know, that was something that my dad always did share with me, you know, complaining don't help much.
07:57My mother was never a complainer.
07:59And I saw her get up and go to work to make things happen.
08:02So I accepted, you know, the stages of work to remaining busy as a youngster.
08:09So I actually look forward.
08:11If I do have a day off, I'm really disappointed because I shouldn't have a day off.
08:15Even if I just get fly, throw on some cool Nikes, go buy a wing stop, go take some photos somewhere and let's just go listen to some music.
08:24To me, that's being productive, but it's still a relaxed day.
08:28Okay.
08:28Okay.
08:29And you mentioned, you know, a little bit earlier about being a dad.
08:32You know, how important is generational wealth to you?
08:35How much does that factor into, you know, your ambition and career moves?
08:38Oh, man.
08:39To me, that's everything.
08:40You got to give your little ones a head start.
08:43You know, that's just like my sister.
08:45She's attending online college right now, but she has a head start because you already own a home.
08:51Yeah.
08:51You know, my son, you know, I own several homes and I'm, you know, waiting until they have aged to let them know the responsibilities that come with it.
08:58But the advantages you get by already having a home, you don't have the stress of certain things.
09:04Now you can really focus on the things that you really love, the passions that you really, that's really burning inside you.
09:11You don't have certain stress, you know, that you could, and to me, that's most definitely more important than a lot of other things.
09:20Yeah.
09:21And then lastly, your residency is coming up.
09:23What can we expect from that?
09:25Oh, you know, you know, I love partying in Vegas.
09:28Yeah.
09:28I love going out.
09:29I love, you know, hitting the tables a little bit, having a few drinks, going to the clubs.
09:34In Vegas, you know, we've been calling it Ross Vegas for a few years now because, you know, that was the first place I went and enjoyed the wingstop sports.
09:43You know, so out there they have different things on the menu.
09:47So when I get to Vegas, I always have my limousine driver take me by the wingstop sports.
09:52Let me see what they got over that.
09:54And, you know, we just have a good time.
09:56So Vegas, once again, someplace I can meet up with all my buddies.
10:00We get out, have a good time, stay up to five in the morning, you know, get back up at nine, you know, and make it do what it do.
