00:06roles matter here at essence so what are your thoughts? Well that that's what I
00:10want to ask you right now so what are your thoughts on the I guess lack of
00:14options in Hollywood for black actors and actresses? It's been there since the
00:18beginning of Hollywood and the only way to change it is you know I think my
00:23brother always said you don't knock on the door and ask people to open it up in
00:27Hollywood you kick it off the hinges and you make your way in and so for
00:32myself and you know every time you have an obstacle I always think about the
00:38objective which is to produce more movies to give us more opportunity so
00:41I write produce and create roles for myself and other african-americans I've
00:45done one a year for the past three years I'm gonna step it up and do three a
00:49year and eventually I'm gonna do ten a year and some of them are gonna be of
00:53the cloth that people will look at and go you know work these young filmmakers
00:58that understand cinematography and we're speaking the language of Oscars and
01:02we're gonna get those movies done get those movies made and we're gonna get the
01:05appropriate amount of attention that we need right now we don't get enough but we
01:08don't have enough budgets it's not just about the Academy about the coins about
01:12the coin you can't make can't make Oscar worthy movies a lot of times with no
01:16budget you know it's understandable revenant was made for 150 million
01:19dollars maybe you know yeah you know the brownest thing and that was the bear you
01:25know and that was a good bear yeah the bear should be about nominated if they
01:29were to nominate the bear I think brothers but you know I think what we
01:39have to do is you know sometimes it's you know it's take and let it motivate you
01:45and inspire you to do more I don't I'm not I don't want to give me a
01:50consolation prize like right here you go I don't want them to create and best
01:54black actor goes to right I won't call me a black actor I am an actor and we
01:59don't have enough of those roles so let's create more of those roles in
02:02Hollywood how about you give us the budgets to do that an audience how about
02:05we all show up and we support these movies because a lot of times we complain
02:09but yet we sit in our seat over the weekend and we don't support our film so
02:14everybody out there come support and this way because it's Hollywood is not
02:19about black and white Hollywood is about green so why don't we support our own
02:24make sure we make the green because once we make the green we can make more
02:27movies and then we won't have these discussions
