Transcript
00:00Music was basically like everything in my household.
00:03We were all required to take a musical instrument.
00:07Yeah, you know, music was just also always going on in my household.
00:09My parents, like, big music lovers.
00:12My dad's like a huge rock and roll fan.
00:15Like, that was a big part of his childhood growing up in the 60s.
00:18Who was your favorite R&B artist growing up?
00:20Al Green and like the old school stuff.
00:22Brandy, I was like listening to that album over and over and over again.
00:27And Lauryn Hill, probably those two.
00:29They were like the first CDs that kind of fought.
00:31I started playing guitar when I was 11.
00:33And, you know, definitely like listening to things like Jimi Hendrix.
00:38And like Led Zeppelin, like first like getting into like, you know, all the old school music.
00:43When I met Lucas, like he introduced me to a lot of that.
00:46Like, and then like Flying Lotus and like James Flake.
00:49It was just like a really cool time.
00:51And I had never kind of had that sound.
00:54And I just loved it.
00:55I think we're like amongst a lot of artists that are kind of like referencing, you know, 90s but also 70s.
01:02So you're getting like funk and people are getting a little bit more creative.
01:06Yeah.
01:06I think it's also cool.
01:07It definitely feels like people are doing a lot of like weirder stuff and like kind of warping the sound a little more, you know.
01:13Collaboration dreams.
01:16Hopefully what will happen in the soon future is Q-Tip.
01:19You know, we met up with him a bunch of times.
01:21And once we went over to the studio and just like kicked it.
01:24And he was super cool and just talked about music and stuff.
01:26So, yeah.
01:27So it's awesome to meet these people like your heroes and then maybe meet two men one day.
01:32Yeah.
01:32I would have to still say Missy Elliott.
01:34I love her.
01:35So, and we definitely like, we talked on the phone once.
01:39So I hope it's going to happen.
01:41That was the planting of the seeds.
