00:00First, let's talk about this movie, Fifth Ward.
00:07You play a single mother of two, her name is Mina.
00:10Not having kids yourself, how did you prepare for this role?
00:12Well, Fifth Ward is a drama series on UMC, UMC.tv, urban movie channel, Bob Johnson's
00:20new network.
00:22And it's a six episode series, airing every Friday.
00:26And I prepared because I am the oldest in my family of three, and I have little brothers.
00:33So I used to look after them growing up, and that's basically how I prepared as far as
00:38my concern for them, the disciplinarian aspect of it, and also the fact that they are young
00:44black men trying to find themselves in young adulthood.
00:48And there are a lot of risks as well as challenges, especially in the inner city community that
00:52we face.
00:53So, that is my preparation.
00:55Yeah.
00:56So there were a lot of similarities.
00:57Was it challenging for you to get casting directors to take you seriously as an actress since
01:01you're mostly known for being a singer?
01:03No.
01:04In my spare time, I do a lot of independent projects.
01:07So there's a reel, and there's a range of different types of roles I've played.
01:13And that is, you know, the icing on the cake or the proof in the pudding.
01:17So it's never a challenge, and I'm always up for something very different as an actress,
01:22and that's where I get to play and step into someone else's shoes and tell their story properly.
01:27Yeah.
01:28And what would your dream role be if you could, because you've had so many, you have so many
01:31different roles.
01:32What would your dream role be?
01:33Oh, I would love to play an assassin.
01:34An assassin.
01:35And train, you know, for six months to a year on something very intense and physical.
01:40Yeah.
01:41Yeah.
01:42Yeah.
