Transcript
00:00And your new show that breaks, which takes place in the 90s, you play a producer, right?
00:08Or a producer on the rise.
00:09Yes, exactly.
00:10So who inspired you?
00:11What other producers did you sort of, you know, mark your character after?
00:14Did you watch anybody, pay close attention?
00:16No, absolutely.
00:17You know, I had the pleasure of, especially being in music, you know, I've worked with
00:22a bunch of different producers.
00:23Yeah, you had your pick.
00:24Yeah, exactly.
00:25But I've kind of based my character on three producers, like three guys who I knew were
00:32doing what I felt DV was doing at the time.
00:34So DJ Premier, one of my big homies.
00:37Shout out Primo.
00:39Pete Rock, another amazing one.
00:42Shout out Uncle Pete.
00:44And Q-Tip, like kind of an amalgamation of all three of those guys.
00:48And I feel like that's what DV encompasses, that the vibe, the feeling that they all gave
00:54off.
00:55You just brought all of that to your new role.
00:56You know, sitting down talking with all of them and trying to, and getting into their
01:00heads about where they were at that time and trying to bring that, bring that across
01:05on television.
01:06Yeah, that's, that, that was the essence, no pun intended, that I was trying to bring.
01:10So The Break takes place in the 90s.
01:11Yes, ma'am.
01:12We know you love the 90s.
01:13Yes.
01:14Top three songs on your 90s playlist right now.
01:16First three.
01:17Go.
01:18Man.
01:19Um.
01:20That's hard.
01:21I know that's hard for me.
01:22Yeah, it's hard.
01:23Probably, SWV week.
01:25Yes.
01:26It's Valentine's Day, so.
01:27We need some romance in there.
01:28Exactly.
01:29Uh.
01:30Uh.
01:31Bump and Grind, R. Kelly.
01:33And, uh.
01:36Uh.
01:37Dang.
01:38Jodeci.
01:39Jodeci?
01:40Anything?
01:41Oh yeah, Jodeci.
01:42Mine would not be complete without a Jodeci.
01:43Yeah.
01:44All day.
01:45Yeah.
01:46I'm down for that.
01:47Jodeci Fienen.
01:48Okay, so Mac, you sing, you rap, you acts.
01:50You really are a renaissance brother.
01:51You're doing a little bit of everything.
01:52So where do you, what's next?
01:53Where do you see your career going five years from now or ten years from now?
01:57Man, the world is my oyster.
01:59I thank God for these gifts and, you know, I just want to keep on.
02:03I love it.
02:04I love it.
02:06I just want to keep on growing them, developing them, and just actually just be free.
02:11Not afraid to just be creative and be free, as free as I want to be.
02:16So if I want to do an art installation, I can.
02:20Anything go.
02:21If I want to direct, I can.
02:23You know, there's so many different ways and facets that you can create.
02:26And I think that's what I've realized that that's what I love more than anything.
02:31It's just kind of doing whatever you feel are coming next.
02:34Yeah.
