00:00As the fashion and beauty director at Essence, I spend my day celebrating black women and I'm
00:12looking for ways to make us more flyer than we already are. I decided to try out CoolSculpting
00:21because who doesn't want to lose some fat on their body. Hi Julie, good morning. Hey, how are you? Dr. Premadera, I'm well. You ready? I'm so excited, but I'm a little nervous. So can you tell us, kind of baseline, what is CoolSculpting? Like, what is this? CoolSculpting is cryotherapy, which is basically fat freezing technology. Completely non-invasive. Basically, the machine sucks in fat and so as long as you have pinchable fat that we can
00:51kind of suck in. It gets really cold. It freezes the fat cells and then it takes about 60 to 90 days to see a complete result. Gotcha. And so, okay, is it dangerous? Very important for me to be able to tell you this is completely, completely safe. I have no reservations whatsoever. The worst of it is really some numbness. This is no needles. This is no... Completely non-invasive. That's amazing. You can go back to the gym the next day. Some people feel a little sore like they had kind of a good workout for 24 hours. Yeah. So that's
01:21pretty much it. Okay, does that come back? That's like a really important thing to know. As far as CoolSculpting is concerned in that particular area, we have permanently killed those fat cells. It doesn't prevent you from gaining weight in general. Right. But those fat cells are peace. Goodbye. Adios. Sayonara. I'm so excited. This is going to be good. Excited. Let's go.
01:45Thank you. So we've decided we're going to treat one particular area for her today, which are these bra roll areas of fat. Forgive me, Julie, for pinching, but that's how we do it.
01:59Pinch away. They're going to have to be there. You've got to say goodbye to them. And so this is an area that really tends to bother women because it hangs under the bra, particularly if you're wearing a dress, you can kind of see it bulge.
02:11And so this is the area that we're going to address and we're going to treat it today to make it go away.
02:16Oh, yeah. Oh, that's cold. Okay. So Victoria and I are going to apply this. Guys, it's about to happen.
02:33Hold me. Hi, friend. That is a tight squeeze. That was a tight, tight squeeze. It feels like someone's giving me a really gnarly hickey.
02:52All right. This is the worst of it. If this is the worst of it, I'll be all right. So you're going to show out for an hour. Literally.
03:02Literally. Okay. So it's been 30 minutes. I feel the pressure, obviously, of the machine doing its thing, but I'm able to do my work and sit here and, like, talk on the phone without being super distracted.
03:19So all in all, it's kind of nice that you can kind of just do whatever you need to do while this is happening, while the fat is being killed in your body. Really excited about that.
03:31So how was it? It was okay. I mean, it wasn't bad at all, actually.
03:36Okay. So now we're going to remove the applicator. Okay. Taking the gel pad off. Okay. And so now what we're going to do is I'm going to massage it. It's going to feel a little bit funny. It's going to feel like little icicles breaking up.
03:52Kill those fat cells. And so where do the fat cells go? They get eliminated the way your body eliminates impurities, you know, through your liver and you pee it out in your urine, but you're not going to see anything.
04:07Okay. So that kind of section of skin that you pulled with all the fat, what happens to that skin? Does it bounce back? Am I going to have, like, now flappy skin without fat cells in it?
04:18Because the fat kind of dies off slowly, your skin kind of just snaps back and contracts into place. And particularly, yeah, particularly in a black woman, you have a much thicker dermis, which is, which is great, actually. So, so black women's skin tends to contract much better, actually.
04:36I mean, we're magical.
04:40Okay, so next steps are?
04:42Oh, you will see me in a month for follow-up, like three, four weeks, for us to kind of see how you're doing. And up until then, what's really important is that we get you on kind of a maintenance plan, as far as, you know, diet, exercise stuff is concerned.
04:55No chocolate.
04:56Treated the area and it's good.
04:58You are good.
05:00Oh my gosh, I'm good to go.
05:02Thank you so much.
05:03You are so good.
05:04Awesome.
05:06If I had to rate CoolSculpting on a scale of one to 10, I mean, I would give it a five or six, but is it right for you is the question that you have to answer.
05:19For me, I don't necessarily think it was the right procedure, but I would recommend CoolSculpting to a friend that maybe just needed to lose like that last five or 10 pounds.
05:33And they're like, you know, they're working out, they're eating right, but it's those last five or 10 pounds that, you know, they want to zap so they can hit the beach feeling super confident and beautiful.
05:44I'm still going to do those things with my backpack, so.
