00:01When I started this journey, I never knew what it actually took for me to get to the Olympics.
00:08I had a lot of self-doubt.
00:14You have to believe that you're good enough and you have to not give up.
00:24My older sister, Arielle, got me involved.
00:26I saw that she was doing these gymnastics deals and I, you know, wanted to do what she was doing.
00:31She saw a lot of potential in me and she told my mom to put me in gymnastics.
00:39I have learned from my mom and my sisters to always fight and never give up, no matter what the odds look like, just to keep, keep going.
00:48In 2011, I had strained my hamstring and my hip flexor and when I went on to the competition floor, I fell seven times.
00:58And it was so embarrassing and my mom told me, you know, that's a winner.
01:03It was when you fall and you get right back up and you don't quit.
01:05And I remember my coaches were like, all right, when we get back to the gym, we're going to get it.
01:10And I was like, okay, like he made me sweat.
01:132012 came around and I got invited to do the American Cup.
01:17And I was a different person. I was a different gymnast.
01:20And everyone was just like, dang, like, who is this girl?
01:24And I remember like everybody was talking about it.
01:26It was that drive. It was, I'm not going to be embarrassed again.
01:29It was, I have a talent and I'm going to use it.
01:3216 year old Gabby Douglas won the gold for the best all around gymnast.
01:40And it's the first time a woman of color has won the individual all around gold medal in the Olympics.
01:46I never thought that I would be a trailblazer.
01:50My mom always used to say fire generation.
01:53And then when that happened, we were like, whoa, we never knew that we actually could.
02:02When I was lucky by giving her any new universe.
02:04But he was like, oh, it's awesome.
02:07And he's looking at it.
