00:00Hi Essence fam.
00:01My name is Sarad and I'm the beauty editor here.
00:04And today I will be creating a Halloween look.
00:07This year I wanted to do something
00:09that was a little witty, a little fun,
00:11but definitely something very personal to me.
00:14I'm gonna be turning myself into black girl magic.
00:16Of course, I already am black girl magic as we all are,
00:20but I wanted to just like amp it up
00:21and show kind of what the embodiment
00:23of black girl magic is to me
00:25when it comes to beauty and to makeup.
00:27So watch along.
00:30What's your favorite makeup?
00:36Most of the makeup that I'll be using are
00:38or have been founded by black women
00:40because as black girl magic,
00:41I wanna promote as many of those brands as possible.
00:45So first I'm gonna be working on my eyes
00:47and I'll be using the Pat McGrath Mothership kit,
00:50which just landed.
00:51Pat McGrath is a favorite of mine.
00:53She is literally a makeup legend.
00:55My favorite thing right now that I'm loving
00:57is a super bright kind of eyeliner
01:00that I make from eyeshadow.
01:02And what I do is I take my brush, dab it,
01:04and I have a super pointy brush.
01:07And then I literally will line my eyes.
01:09I put a little bit of shadow on the lash line.
01:14So it kind of mimics like an eyeliner.
01:17And then I also will do it super close to the lash line.
01:21So again, almost creating an eyeliner type of a look.
01:25I feel like as black women, a lot of times,
01:27we're scared to play with color,
01:29especially when it comes to eyeshadow.
01:31But it always makes me feel like fun and fierce.
01:35And it's Halloween, so why not, you know,
01:37add a pop of color?
01:39Repeat on the other eye.
01:41I actually just winged it out a bit.
01:44Since unicorns have been really big this year,
01:47I'm going to add another little pop of color.
01:49I told you I'm really into color this year.
01:53This beautiful eyeshadow.
01:55I'm going to do a similar type of thing with pink.
01:58So I'm literally just going to trace this over.
02:06And of course, what is Black Girl Magic
02:07without lots of glitter?
02:09So this is a beautiful gel-like product.
02:14So I'm just going to put a little on top of my eyes
02:19to really just, like, amp up the glitter.
02:21I feel like the more glitter, the better.
02:23It is Halloween.
02:28And I'm going to actually use this as a,
02:30where you would use, like, a highlighter.
02:31I'm going to use just a little bit of my glitter gel.
02:39Oh, I really like this.
02:42I might wear this even when it's not a Halloween.
02:46You just really have to rub it in.
02:47Otherwise, you might look a little cuckoo.
02:50And then I always like to put a little highlighter
02:52on the center of my nose or, like, the bridge of your nose.
02:56Again, anywhere you put a highlighter,
02:58I'm just going to put a little bit of glitter today.
03:01The other major makeup launch this year
03:04is Fenty Beauty, of course.
03:06And so Rihanna is literally my spirit animal.
03:08And so I want to carry her around with me all night.
03:12I'm going to be using the Matchstick in Rum,
03:15which is kind of like a highlighter,
03:17I guess, concealer situation.
03:19So kind of where I've already put a little bit of glitter.
03:22I'm going to go back.
03:23Just add a little bit of highlight on top of it.
03:28I know it's, like, a lot, but it's Halloween.
03:32I just want to blend it in so I'm not looking too cracker.
03:39I'm feeling like it's still not popping enough for me.
03:42I'm a unicorn, so Pam McGrath has this, like, pinky color
03:46that I'm just going to, like, dust on.
03:49Give it a little bit more iridescence.
03:52Ah, here we go.
03:54I think my eyes are good, so I'm just going to curl my lashes.
03:58Add a coat of mascara.
04:05I'm going to finish with the Fenty gloss.
04:07And this is from Rihanna's latest collection,
04:09the Galaxy Collection.
04:10So, again, I feel I need to bring in the Rihanna vibes.
04:14All types of black girl magic.
04:19Slow-mo.
04:23Oh, my gosh.
04:26Give my hair a little bit of a zhuzh.
04:31Let my natural kind of tresses do as they may.
04:36And I'm going to add a few more personal elements
04:39that will really help me embody black girl magic.
04:47I met this woman in Atlanta who is literally a black girl
04:50magician because she makes gold jewelry,
04:53and she made my initials for me.
04:54And my shirt, as someone who loves to read,
04:57it just gives me so much comfort when people see me in it.
05:00It's always a conversation starter.
05:02So, yeah, so this Halloween costume may not be, you know,
05:05one you buy from Party City, but it's definitely personal.
05:08Just grab a bunch of things that make you feel beautiful,
05:11make you feel proud to be a black woman,
05:14and voila, black girl magic personified.
