00:02:13For those who don't know anything about your artistry
00:02:15So music has always been a very important part of my life
00:02:21It's almost like breathing or drinking water
00:02:23It's just natural
00:02:25All of the women in my family are musicians
00:02:29As far as my dad is concerned
00:02:33He likes music
00:02:34And my dad's side of the family
00:02:35They like music
00:02:36They're not necessarily musicians or performing artists
00:02:40My dad was an athlete at one time
00:02:43And then he got injured really young
00:02:46But for me, music and art has always been a part of my life
00:02:51And it was only natural
00:02:53You know, so I was
00:02:55I had like an official gig when I was in preschool
00:02:58Singing, you know, Over the Rainbow
00:03:03Because, of course, I love Judy Garland
00:03:05And The Wizard of Oz
00:03:06So, yeah, that's how I kind of got into it
00:03:09Just always being around music and loving it
00:03:12And having a family who was able to teach me songs
00:03:16Or teach me how to sing, you know?
00:03:18I love that for you
00:03:20That's really exciting
00:03:21And to bring up like Judy Garland
00:03:23A lot of people don't really bring up listens like that
00:03:25You know, for that kind of thing
00:03:27So for that inspiration, I love it

00:03:34Because she is a lot of people's first introduction to music

00:28:54right and tried to make me a piano player like you said i couldn't read the keys the problem was
00:29:02i loved it that's how i knew i loved it music and stuff so much as i was younger and then having an
00:29:07instrument like that it just i couldn't find my into it with it like i loved it every time i tried
00:29:14i couldn't never get the keys all right so i can understand that as well like yeah play by ear yeah
00:29:20but over time i kind of got to it so one day like my cousin god rest his soul like i had a cousin who
00:29:26was really more interested in the keyboard and i was like huh you can have it oh i got in trouble for
00:29:32just giving away i did as a kid i got in trouble for it but i was like he was playing for a church he
00:29:40knew more about pianos than i did i just liked it having a piano but yeah that was my story on just
00:29:48you know wanting to be a piano player there it missed me there's a lot of things trying to find my way
00:29:55into the music industry that i tried uh i tried to be a hip-hop artist i tried to be a rapper
00:30:01i can still rap here and there but i think i love now more it's kind of like being on a producer tip like i like
00:30:08finding talent putting stuff together putting it out there so that's how like that whole dj
00:30:14spiel in my name came up i was like i just like being able to formulate the music i don't care
00:30:19to what i mean if i get on the mic i'm gonna get on the mic but that ain't me no more
00:30:25that's good though that uh that's a good skill and talent to have and sometimes it takes being an artist
00:30:32and dabbling to get there you know yeah you got to i was like i was just thinking back the other day
00:30:38when i was doing a couple freestyles you know just clowning around and i thought about it i was like
00:30:43man i remember in high school i actually put together a rap group like i had a rap group
00:30:50and i can remember being sick from school a couple definitely used to call me like i had to actually
00:30:55deal with uh one of those members you know you always got that one in the group think they david ruffin
00:31:00they control the whole group so they want to take charge while you're gone and i remember i had to
00:31:04put them in this place and then you know it was just too much at the time and i just disbanded the
00:31:10whole group like i don't i don't like confrontation and drama and all that too much that's just not my
00:31:15character yeah i understand i dig it i dig it so grandma and auntie and moms you know everybody had
00:31:24you into the piano lifestyle you know i'm saying you drew up you know from preschool up proving your
00:31:31way as an artist you know what i'm saying you really got it going on so are you are you what do you
00:31:41consider yourself are you one of those like local stars or do you feel like you got enough reach yet
00:31:46are you still working on climbing the platform you know i want the fans to decide right i'd love for
00:31:53them to decide because it's the genre of music that i do is meant is is used globally so i don't consider
00:32:05myself a local celebrity but the thing is is i have bands randomly everywhere right um they have never
00:32:15met me in person they can't tell oh please come do a show here or do a show there as if i can get
00:32:22there you know so i don't consider myself a local celebrity but i do consider myself in the in a good
00:32:29location for my career in the bay area i just absolutely auditioned last night and i i feel so
00:32:37invigorated and so creative you know uh so nobody dares fans you know know who i am or anything
00:32:45like that so you know it is what it is and that's good is that that's good oh you know one time i did
00:32:54go on an audition they knew i was eyes and they was acting like they was ready to give me the part and
00:33:00i'll be honest with you my uh i read the i i saw the the lines before you know i i read my lines but i i
00:33:10didn't read some of the the cues and uh and then it says smoker's voice i was like how come i'm just
00:33:18now seeing smokers voice at the audition so i'm like uh-huh you missed the role you're supposed to be
00:33:26out there like yeah exactly and i was like oh everybody eyes is here and they was like oh well
00:33:33you just you just you just need to be in here just it's just a formality and then i got up there and
00:33:38i was like okay yes like i'm not not no
00:33:48it's uh yeah
