00:00So when your film, a body of work that you're a part of is being compared to like Menace to Society or those types of iconic films, the Fridays and that sort of thing, what is that?
00:13Does you feel like that increases the pressure or how does that make you feel?
00:16Yeah, it does increase the pressure, you know, and it's almost like you want to, it's like, you know, in Hollywood with films and stuff, you want to be selective, you know, what you choose and stuff like that.
00:26And Dope, you know, it was an independent film, you know, and a lot of people, especially, you know, dealing with agencies and stuff and, you know, they want their clients to be the best of the best, of course, you know, but then sometimes you have to be really strategic and to be a part of like an independent film like Dope and to see what it's, you know, going to do, like it definitely, you know, for my next projects and stuff like that, I'm going to have to bring it, you know, 20 times more.
00:50Yeah, because, you know, this being an independent project and then studio taking control of it and it, you know, being global like it's about to be, you know, then that just sets the bar high for the next job.
00:59And as you mentioned, your lineage, there's a lot of pressure that's already placed on you.
01:02Yeah.
01:03How do you select what you're a part of and what you're not a part of?
01:05I mean, my team is definitely a part of my everyday, my thought process, you know, I don't make any decisions on my own.
01:12I mean, I do, but it's, you know, for the most part, if it's, yeah, yeah, I definitely consult, you know, everything is strategic because, you know, the position I'm in with my family and stuff, I have very little room for error, you know, because if I do something wrong, it's going to be kind of like twice as wrong.
01:25Right, right, it's a lot of pressure.
01:26Just because of who I am and stuff, so I got to be real careful with that and I think I do a pretty good job.
01:30I got a nice, solid, like, four or five man team that, you know, keeps me, you know, boom, right here.
01:36Right there, yeah.
01:37And you have such a talented cast that you're working with, you have Shameik, Kirstie Clemens, Shaneli Ma.
01:41Yes.
01:42Did you know that they were a part of the project going into it or was it like a pleasant surprise to see so much talent on set?
01:48Once I went in for my, you know, first audition and then got the callback, my callback was almost like they handed me the script, or Rick handed me my script and it had Jalil on it and I just went crazy.
01:59And that day I actually met Tony, who plays Jib and Diggy, or Kirstie, and then I met Shameik later on that day because we all went to Kirstie's house after the audition.
02:10Also, you hit it off from the beginning.
02:11Yeah, immediately.
02:12Oh, that's good.
02:12Yeah, but then Chanel was a surprise, you know, A$AP was a surprise, everybody was surprised, but yet, you know, the three leads and it's pretty cool.
02:22And it all worked out.
02:23Yeah, yeah, the chemistry was absolutely amazing on set and that really reads on film.
02:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
