00:00Susie you know we're looking for a secret genius yeah what does a secret genius look like well
00:11that's the thing they don't have to look or be like anyone could they be plump and maybe maybe
00:15be a classic pair sure could they be slightly thinning at the back you know in the hair
00:20department absolutely could their teeth maybe not be the best why not Susie are you saying I
00:27could be a secret genius oh and I wouldn't say classic pair across the UK there are estimated
00:41to be a million undiscovered geniuses calling all secret geniuses houses of parliament here we're not
00:48going to get any geniuses in there are they ordinary people when I were a kid I used to know everybody's
00:55reg play on a state where I lived with extraordinary brains nitrogen oxygen fluorine neon sodium magnesium
01:02aluminium silicon I think the next one's phosphorus who have no idea just how clever they are I got
01:09about four GCSEs but somewhere deep down I reckon I've got some kind of hidden potential nominated
01:16by friends family or themselves people see me and they don't think I'm capable of something like this
01:22am I doing this to prove anyone wrong absolutely each week 12 people from different corners of the UK
01:31complete the number sequence have been invited to genius HQ oh my goodness here they'll compete in a
01:42series of mind-stretching game where do we begin designed with Mensa the Society for the world's smartest
01:49people I've literally just figured it out straight in superpowers to find out if they have more potential
01:59than they ever thought possible oh my god I've got it right come on you're doing this for Manchester
02:05maybe I am clever but only the top three from each regional heat will make it to the final oh my god
02:14the winner of secret genius is
02:17I'm a receptionist for a hotel chain people a hundred percent underestimate me some of them just
02:34think you're a minimum wage moron hello and welcome to secret genius today it's the good people of the
02:42Northwestern Northern Ireland who might always have suspected they have sky-high IQs but have remained
02:48as untested as a set of skis my mum and dad bought me for my 14th birthday when I was at school I was
02:55labeled as being thick I'm kind of thinking I'm you know I am reasonably clever fingers crossed I can
03:01prove that I'm not as thick as the school teachers said will someone's gray matter come good when it
03:07matters and see them lift the secret genius crown hello my name's CJ nice to meet you all I've never
03:14done out like this before have you no I've never even done an intelligence test or anything like that so
03:20I'm kind of just trusting that I won't regret doing this it's good to push yourself out of the common
03:24zone they've been out again though isn't it have you had to come far oh I've come from Telford have you
03:29ever been I haven't well you're not missing out to be fine what do you do for work I work on an
03:34ambulance crew amazing I'm a single mum I work nights I respond to 999 calls I bet that's high
03:43pressure though it can be I seem to be able to pull things out of my arse from nowhere pretty well
03:50remember all our patients details name address next to kin phone number date of birth allergies what do
03:57you do for work I'm a dance teacher and run a dance school and dance has always been in me I've
04:04been dancing since I was three I can't do as much as I used to do in terms of teaching the hips and
04:09the feet are failing the brains not yet so what can it do what do you do for a living I'm a shepherd
04:15that's what I do for money I wasn't expecting such a diverse group of people was expecting a bit
04:20more lab coats and lecturers and them do you work with sheepdogs I have a sheepdog can a dog be a genius
04:27hi guys how are y'all feeling you are representing Northwest and Northern Ireland who's got the
04:40thickest accent come on probably me I am really common you're really common oh my god so am I
04:45but listen you're thinking how can he be in charge and you're right we need a responsible adult and
04:54until we find one of them let's welcome resident brain box miss Susie Dent oh Susie's come all the
05:03way from 1978 look at that woo go love it anyway welcome now for some of you the school system may
05:15not have helped you reach your full potential even though you may have a very high IQ but in this
05:21competition we're hopefully going to change that behind these doors are some spectacular but slightly
05:28devilish games these have all been designed with Mansa based on the tests that they use to measure
05:33intelligence so today we are going to be putting you to the test with two quick fire rounds which
05:40you will have 12 minutes to complete and the bottom four of you will be going home followed by a pairs
05:46round in which you will need to team up and collaborate but only the top two pairs will be going through to
05:52the next round yes I have a little look around and see who you think is your intellectual match okay you
05:59don't look impressed and then three of you will go through to the final are you ready for your first
06:05game yeah I'll be watching don't let that put you off you got this okay stop being so common
06:16oh yeah Christy that was a lot deep breaths CJ deep breaths so Susie what are we actually testing here then well
06:30each of these games has been designed with Mensa to test our players more intelligence and the
06:35instinctual workings of their brain so across the four heats each player must try to complete each game
06:44correctly in the fastest time possible and in today's quickfire round only the top eight players
06:51will make it through what was it that brought you here my friends always kind of say like our Joe's a
06:58genius when this came up I was like I think I should do this and she's like well yeah that's so
07:03interesting because I think a few of us have been recommended by someone else which I don't know if
07:08there's a thing there about maybe we don't see ourselves as anything special but someone else does
07:12for me it was my mom she's my biggest fan my mom bless her Nathan Carlisle born Nathan is first to
07:23take on the quickfire round my brain is like someone sellotape together a load of wires and then struck
07:32them with lightning now that can sound a little bit like a terrible thing absolute chaos sometimes it is
07:40chaos but I feel like it means there's also a lot of potential in there tell me a bit about Nathan
07:45well he's from Carlisle bullied at school self-confessed nerd nerds are cool they are the first use of nerd
07:51was in dr. zeus when I ran the zoo do you remember the dr. zeus book yeah yeah yeah he devised this weird
07:56animal called a nerd is that where it comes from where we got it all okay geeks used to bite the heads off
08:02live chickens but that's another story I am certainly different whether that's good or bad maybe this will
08:11help me find out
08:13let's go
08:20all the months of the year can be spelled with these letters apart from one that month has one letter
08:29missing which letter is missing and from which month on the surface quite straightforward so every
08:36single month of the year can be spelled with these letters bar one oh Susie imagine all the people at home
08:42playing along because you can I'm watching you lots of letters so what this is testing is our players
08:51ability to process and interpret written information so this is what we call verbal reasoning I think
08:58right how am I going to do this and the first thing that comes to me is just go through them one
09:03by one January I've got J a and he's going through this systematically Nathan it might be the longer
09:10approach you go January is there a name is there a name why see some people might just go in and have
09:15an incredibly quick scan March I'm seeing a H at the moment I'm just gonna scan backwards again what you do
09:26is I think of all the mumps and think of letters that jump out yeah that is exactly the right strategy look
09:32for the least common letter like the I in April the F in February the H in March that's where to start
09:38I found the H lesser yes one yeah that's a really good way to go I have an answer the key is they
09:45have to write both the letter down and the month I'm pretty confident with my answer well done Nathan
09:51you got that in four minutes 38 that is a really solid start get on to the next game times clicking
09:56place the shapes in the correct positions on the grid to ensure each line adds up to the given value
10:06you must keep all the numbers on the blocks facing the right way up you must press the stop button
10:11to finish they have to arrange different numbers so that each row matches the total on the left hand
10:19side okay so 11 15 20 26 so now we're testing our players ability to think logically and solve new
10:27problems so this is what we call fluid reasoning I start by going for the biggest numbers the biggest
10:34total surely will have to be made with some of the biggest numbers but if I have the tens in that
10:39one that's 20 he's put the tens at the top well that's clever isn't it the tens got to go at the top
10:44yeah the two tens they can't go in any of the ones apart from the top one because they alone add up to
10:50all of the other totals or exceed them so that has to go in the top one oh his mind is working it's
10:56whizzing a lot it doesn't yeah but if that's one and five that's six six five maybe I look at four
11:02and two five and one other things that add up to six the six is what I need one that's 26 stick the
11:10three here it works so I pick up the piece with the twos on it it's kind of a corner piece and there
11:19is a corner that I really wanted to fit in but it would mean rotating it I think it just has to be
11:23right the twos are the wrong way round and the instructions specifically say right way up
11:29four what does that add up to seven four that's eleven I'm just going to double check that this
11:37is legal but I'm pretty sure it is legal what you must keep all the numbers on the blocks facing the
11:42right way up those numbers are the right way up even if they're rotated I think that's allowed I
11:47think that's a valid solution so I'm going to stop he's thinking the right way up is facing up
11:54rather than facing down but the right way up is essentially the right orientation I think he's
11:59misinterpreted the rules and anyway no one would really think to put their numbers face down would
12:04they so Nathan only got the first game right but in really good time so unless eight other players
12:10ace both rounds he's got really good chance of going through I feel confident do you like working
12:19at your hotel so it's all right working there just to tide me over yeah what would you do I'd say you
12:25could just do anything oh I'm a performer I'm a drag queen oh yeah how long have you been doing
12:31dragon just since I was 18 so a couple years now what happened after school you went to college I
12:36didn't offer to go to Cambridge University that's amazing at face value people probably wouldn't
12:46think I was clever they probably think I was a bit simple I've always just had an interest in
12:53academia and of literature and reading it wasn't right for me at the time and my family was making
12:59a huge mistake I moved out on my own just started at the hotel and doing this it'd be just nice to
13:06show them that I'm talented in different ways right let's see what the others are capable of which
13:23letter is missing and from which months can I rearrange these nothing's gonna stop me why the whole idea is
13:31it's really just to give it a quick scan is this the best strategy probably not it's like ages there's
13:38an A for January oh another one rearranging yes I like her look don't you very much like a haunted
13:45Victorian school girl no not again I'm dealing out the cards that I've got in the hand one at a time
13:54he's collecting all in his hands I can't even see them well that was a real raspberry okay oh Helen
14:03start to think of months that have less used letters in I think I've got it
14:09Helen's on fire she means business well I've got no clue about this I've tried everything if I had
14:17six hours to do this it'd be all right but we don't we've got 12 minutes so this is hopeless I'm just
14:23gonna guess got the correct month but the incorrect letter yep I really don't think I'm seeing a G
14:28excellent lovely writing G August oh my goodness this is so sharp with the two tens there's only one line
14:39it can go on so it has to go there and now that I've got those tens in place and I'm thinking okay
14:45what else have I got how fast with that 3 49 4 40 7 53 well done Helen just a dancer she's proving
15:01you're not yeah all right I think last to attempt the quickfire round 32 year old only you've got
15:11children sorry right so I've got two boys Stan 16 and Lucas is 12 where about your little boy how
15:17will see he's just turning five but it's first time I've not done score on and really yeah yeah
15:21all that it's really weird oh you get a bit emotional yeah I just miss him and sometimes it does
15:29remind me a lot of me got a good memory and even when he was sort of 18 months old he would recite
15:35the Gruffalo word for word and yeah yeah I'm really sorry don't apologize when I were a kid I
15:44used to know everybody's reg play on a state where I lived I probably knew off by our 60 or 70 car
15:52reg plates don't apologize that's all at school I think should have at least tried I did not want to
16:02do a levels I did not want to do a degree I don't think I've ever shown any sort of passion to progress
16:06some people are just really good at knowing what they want to do and I've never had that I worked in
16:13shops in sales in a call center I learned to do plumbing I hated it Ollie I've done this through
16:26morbid curiosity am I actually good at something or am I just dim-witted but good at remembering stuff
16:34this is lovely Ollie love the name Ollie if I have a secret genius I think it'd be nice to be able to
16:41tap into it and then apply it to my son Finley it couldn't have been a worse task for me I'm not very good at
17:05binograms and I'm not very good at word searches and things I'm thinking start logically month by month
17:13and go through and spell them I'm not getting anywhere here I taught my dog some science I taught my dog some
17:35sign language ginger that's yeah I just made up my own sign language for the dog 12 people from the
17:42Northwest and Northern Ireland are taking on a series of Mensa inspired games to see if they
17:48have the intelligence of a genius my family think I'm clever whether I'm a genius or not I don't know
17:58I'm hoping I'm really I gently I'm hoping that I am ambulance crew member Ollie is the last to work out
18:12which letter is missing from which month she's struggling with this one but if she can get one
18:19game right in a quick enough time it might just get her through to the next round still not really
18:26getting anywhere fast and look up at clock and I've used about seven minutes I mean that got clean that
18:32one she's got a clue so I'm just gonna say it's a she's just left it she's gone Holly Ollie has left the
18:43building I'm completely letting the nerves get the better of me she gone on to the second I might not
18:53have time to do the next task Alan she's only got five minutes left I really hope she can do this come
19:00on Ollie place the shapes in their correct positions on the grid to ensure each line adds up to the given
19:06value I'm thinking this one's going to be just as difficult if not more difficult I were always really
19:21quite good at mental arithmetic when you're recognizing patterns and things like that I looked at the top
19:27row with 26 and I thought well the double 10 can only go on the top row oh my goodness she's been so fast
19:41oh my god that was impressive I mean that was incredibly fast she did that second game in two minutes 48
19:49I felt relieved that I've done it but then at the same time I was just thinking I could have had an
19:55extra three minutes next door how are we feeling how are we feeling about results nervous I think
20:05personally I'll be really shocked if I stay hi guys it's got you some Wednesday Dale and a nice brew
20:14because I know we've got some northerners in yes how did you find the games the missing month the letter
20:21was G from the month August and you had to write down both the letter and the month okay you didn't
20:29need to rearrange all the letters on the board like you're auditioning for countdown and with the second
20:35game the easiest way was to put the larger numbers at the top some of you look like you were doing your tax
20:42returns in a wind tunnel six of you got both games correct whilst two of you got one right in a quick
20:51enough time to get you through to the next round the eight players with the best combination of speed
20:57speed and accuracy are in no particular order Harley Helen Nathan Joe Jasmine Sarah Justin
21:26and last to go through is
21:33Ollie
21:37surprise
21:41just really shocked that I would top eight I really thought that I'd messed it up royally okay so
21:49obviously that leaves four people going home and of course that means CJ Ethan it's all right Steve and
21:58Liz you can go back to your flock thank you
22:02it would have been nice to have done better but at least I got the August part right you know it's
22:11back to the hotel for me now go and rest your brains because the games are gonna get hard
22:20I've made it to the next round I'm really relieved I don't think there's anyone more surprised than you are
22:27well done everyone we're all gonna do fine
22:36so when did this start is it this just happened overnight or I woke up this morning was just
22:55completely gone it's day two for the eight remaining possible geniuses I know that I sometimes get stuck in
23:04there's this imposter syndrome thing where it's like yeah but maybe I've just fluked it or yeah
23:08terrible I think deep breath what sort of strengths do you have what do you think you're really good
23:14that's gonna help you so I can walk into a room and I'm spot little details and then I can recall and
23:19sort of years later hi guys how we all feeling that brain had a bit of a rest oh my god blink twice if
23:33you're having a good time right answer right okay for this next round you're gonna work in pairs you
23:43want to test your communication and teamwork skills but most importantly your memory and verbal you choose
23:50the pairs yourself the one who was quickest in the previous games picks first and so on okay so the first
23:57person to pick is Justin yesterday you got both quick fire rounds correct in three minutes and 49 seconds
24:07oh well except that I've got the quickest score yesterday I was very very surprised to pick someone
24:13you think you're gonna work well with I'm happy with Ollie you better have a good memory you said
24:18before you had so right the next person to choose their pair is Joe who are you gonna pick I'm gonna
24:28pick Nathan because he's great you are sweet it was quite nice to be picked early on I'm kind of used to
24:35for example in PE being one of the later picks so hopefully I can do my bit to make our team do well
24:41the next fastest person not in a pair is Helen the tap dancing queen who are you gonna go for I'll go
24:48with Jasmine I won't ask Jasmine how you feel about this I don't feel I'm gonna get much back thumbs up
24:54that of course leaves Harley and Sarah now only the two fastest pairs will go through to the next round
25:04so get those brains in gear good luck thank you so Susie what does round two involve well this is
25:16one I love so it takes place in an ice cream parlor it requires a huge amount of memory recall that's
25:22what we're testing first and foremost with this one as you will see so Alan you're having a party who's
25:27coming just four guests though free guests I'm actually one of the guests it's a real slap in the
25:31face it's true and each of them requires a bespoke ice cream so one of the players is gonna have to
25:39relay the orders to the other player who's then gonna have to make the ice cream these roles can
25:44be swapped at any time but they only have 15 minutes on the clock hopefully my memories are
25:48all right communication skills if we can't communicate then we're shagged aren't we Ollie Justin come on do this
26:02I'm really happy that he picked me and I'm also nervous I really don't want to let him down and I'd
26:08be so upset if he got knocked out because of me my stomach feels like it's about to fall out my arse
26:18it's day two of the Northwest and Northern Ireland heat and Justin and Ollie are the first pair to
26:32tackle round two I scream instructions make an ice cream for customers only one person at a time will
26:40be able to hear the order and you can listen to the order as many times as you like you must place the
26:46four completed ice creams on the counter and press the stop button to finish are you happy with that
26:50yeah do you want to do the orders and I'll do the ice creams because you're good at memory yes which one
26:56would you would you choose to memorize would you choose to make I'd make it because I'd have a
27:00little lick myself Adele wants a four scoop ice cream starting with vanilla at the bottom chocolate
27:11cookies and cream and strawberry on the top two wafers two flakes and sprinkles
27:18so the first one is vanilla at the bottom then chocolate cookies and cream then strawberry the
27:29first order is relatively simple two wafers two flakes and sprinkles thinking yeah I've got that one
27:38that's locked in we like keep this into the next one Amanda only wants two scoops she wants the top
27:45two flavors of Adele's but wants to swap cookies and cream for mango sorbet oh it's tricky with double
27:53the flakes that Adele has but half the wafers and strawberry sauce it changes really suddenly from
28:00being really simple to doing like functional maths and remembering things now the next one is mango
28:07sorbet and strawberry one wafer four flakes strawberry sauce well done that's good that is good oh look
28:19it's my order what's your favorite ice cream Alan oh knobbly bubbly of course Alan's ice cream is the
28:26same as Adele's but his bottom flavor is mint and he wants double the number of wafers
28:32so Alan wants mint on the bottom
28:38I do think I have got quite a good memory but I just really don't want to let him down he wants chocolate
28:54if you're not sure go back yeah no it's fine and that's always in the back of your mind you know you've got to
29:00get the odor right yeah then cookies and cream yeah then strawberry okay I forgot wafers and okay I'll come back
29:09okay oh dear hmm
29:14been that it was right I think her nerves are getting to her Alan I'm finding a bit frustration because she
29:23seems to be taking a long time to make sure that she can remember it and I'm thinking you're just going
29:27for one order do you want to listen to that last okay it confused me which one wanted double Justin's
29:33gone to the phone now so that's good they're alternating a little bit yeah Adele's but mint and double the
29:41number of wafers so it's mint chocolate cookies and cream strawberry but it would double the wafers
29:50wafers you're happy with that and some sprinkles and sprinkles correct great right they're on the
30:00last one and once double the scoops of what Amanda is having but he wants to swap strawberry for lemon
30:07sorbet he wants half of Amanda's flakes but double the number of Adele's wafers so answers the same as
30:17Adele's but he wants to double the number completely lost it he's a bit confused I really really appreciate
30:25how difficult it being for Ollie and I felt so guilty can't remember it do you want to start doing
30:30that once I can make it again you make it I'll go back and listen again while you re-listen come on
30:35Justin and wants double the scoops of what Amanda is having so it is Adele's half the flakes double the
30:43wafers I thought it went with the same as Amanda but he wanted double it's double what a damn heart
30:48Justin said that is definitely the double of Adele and not Amanda and he said yeah and I just think
30:55to myself yeah well if you're happy I'm happy it's massive because it's double Adele's and not Amanda's
31:03I mean she's gonna go out of business if she gives that size look that would tough I can say
31:15they got three out of the four three three out of the four and their time was 13 57 so they did not
31:21have long left let's see if any of the others can get all four correct shall we would you like to
31:26listen to the order first go and listen good at memory I'm not too bad I think we should both listen
31:33at some point anyway so shall I just go over here yes chocolate cookies and cream poor old Jasmine
31:40vanilla chocolate cookies and cream I think we're both confident with that one two flakes two wafers
31:46and sprinkles well done Sarah that was spot-on the second order comes through and I panic I always
31:52used to pick up routines very quickly my retention skills were very good but that time pressed just
31:58a bit much oh she's gone crazy okay I don't want to let Jasmine down I think if you're stressed memory
32:07is the one of the hardest oh God when you're put on the spot your mind just goes blank totally I feel
32:13like I want to listen again I'm so sorry Amanda wants the top two of Adele's but she wants to swap the
32:20cookies and cream for mango sorbet for Harley and I this is going okay carry on if you want to go and
32:26listen yeah frankly I feel a bit cheeky in this moment because Joe's having to remember all the
32:32orders which is the crux of the game correct that was very slick Alan's ice cream is the same as Adele's
32:41Adele is she really your best friend yeah she married me I'm now divorced so let's just move on I don't
32:48know when I talk about it do you want to go over I'll go over and have a listen yeah good Nathan's
32:53gonna listen now so I got that and he's having double Amanda that that was complicated and I think
33:05you want to go and listen to it again oh Nathan she does look a little bit stressed and I'm now
33:12questioning this that there's something about doubling oh that's too much sauce Jasmine mango
33:20mango t-lemon I'm a bit aware that I'm taking more of a forward roll than I normally would you happy with
33:28that stop 1105 without 15 minutes wow wow wow that's good you were definitely better being over there
33:37than me am I getting the impression she's not pleased with this well there we go there we go okay you're
33:43good we're good we're good yeah nothing in the world could have preferred me for that it's no point
34:00guessing yeah nope we've done what we've done hello everyone hello so what do you think of the game
34:09for review of scoop to place in the final game the other four I think had brain freeze so before going
34:23through our Nathan and Joe you got all four correct Nathan you look shocked I honestly I thought I was
34:38useless I thought Joe did everything but I'm so proud and the other pair going through with three
34:47correct is Justin and Ollie 100% so glad I picked it oh well that's nice but obviously that means we've
34:59got to say goodbye to you four I did panic a little bit in there and it was mainly because
35:08there was two of us I'd much rather fail on my own and fail and let somebody else down I am really proud
35:14of myself and forgetting this far I think it's a massive achievement I'm in complete shock really
35:22like such disbelief it just comparing myself to everybody else thinking they're really smart and
35:27definitely not feeling confident about the last round it's like I'm thinking oh my god I've had a
35:32really nice couple of days and I've got that horrible out of seems feeling like oh shit again so you're going
35:39through to the final game I know you've been surrounded by frozen food but why don't you
35:44not go off and cool down because things are going to get tougher the worst bit is is that there's four
36:05of us here and later on one of us is gonna leave yeah you know I mean it is it is horrible in the
36:10final game at genius HQ we have four players left trying to be in the best headspace I can be where
36:18three will go through to our finals in Oxford what are they playing they're playing a game called come
36:24to light it's the ultimate test of their pattern recognition and memory skills and they have up to
36:2930 minutes to complete both stages of the game first to play for a place in the finals is ambulance
36:37crew member Oli don't think I've ever excelled at anything so to then be told like oh yeah actually
36:44you are really clever or gifted or whatever I would be shocked are they all your lamps Susie yeah just
36:57call me Miss Havisham I was gonna say your hoardings quite niche in front of you is a set of lamps a lamp
37:05will illuminate on the sound of a beep in this final round you will hear a beep and at each beep
37:10one of the lamps will light and you will have to spot as a player the sequence in which these lamps
37:17are being illuminated and at some point the lights are going to stop illuminating but the beep will
37:21continue and the players have to follow the beep around and when it stops they have to tell us which
37:27lamp would have been illuminated if the lighting have continued when the beep stop you must pull the
37:33toggle of the lamp which should now be illuminated she'll make light work of this I look at patterns
37:41most days I look at ECGs and that that's just a pattern on a line so I'm thinking okay if we can
37:48just figure out the sequence we've got this it's all happening quite quickly as the lights start I start
38:02counting them so they're going one two three miss three and then I was thinking the next one would be
38:07one two three miss four yeah I've got this now it's going to be three and miss five yeah that's right
38:18and then the sixth one no light comes on and I'm like okay right which one just went but then the
38:27beeps carry on so there's three more beeps something you know yeah I've got to continue the pattern around
38:32with no lights so I'm counting the sixth lamp I pull the toggle at the end oh my god I got it right
38:45that's great look at that I know she really means business on it memorise the rule for each color the
38:57side each color is an instruction as to what move you need to take on a giant it's a bit like a disco
39:03mat when you are ready say start the sequence then you will see a sequence of colors that will
39:09correspond to the rules that you have memorized the lampshades will light according to the color of the
39:14instruction you must move through the grid using these rules when the sequence finishes you must stand
39:20in the corresponding square I look at red and it says that's three steps to the right so I tap my
39:27right side three times and then blues one to the left well blues one one thumb and then yellow I've
39:32got a gold ring on so I think you stand still so put your hands in front touch the yellow ring pink was
39:39two forward and I've got two pink flowers on my shoes two flowers two forward start sequence
39:46as the colors go on I'm sort of tapping my side and doing probably really daft movements to try and
40:00remember what I should be doing for each color she follows the instructions to the letter I get to a blue
40:08one and move one to the left and then the lights suddenly start going really quick I'm starting to
40:14think oh god I'm not gonna keep up with this I see a green one and I take two steps back and when I look
40:23up there are no more lights I didn't see anything after green so I think I'm gonna lock in at this one
40:29I definitely followed those instructions right that felt so quick she did that in less than a quarter of
40:37the time she had six thirty five Wow oh no I hope I've not fucked it up and that last one I think I
40:46like looked backwards and now I'm like thinking oh no did I miss a color but it's too late now next up
40:52Justin Justin means business he's put his glasses on yeah come on then watch the sequence I know this is the
41:04one that should be but maybe it wasn't that one maybe it's the one before so I went for the one before oh
41:08oh my god let's see how Nathan gets on without Joe look around Nathan I've really no idea at this
41:23point because I missed first few lamps I've just realized good in sets of three and the number of
41:29lights lights it's missing is increasing good every time the amount that don't light up increases by one
41:37that was fast well done Nathan I'm ready to start the sequence I imagine Nathan being quite a good
41:52dancer so it was the quiet ones in it I met me it doesn't mean Macarena or something this is my final
42:16position well done Nathan so how's it that you're feeling now that we're done I reckon I got the first
42:22part relatively quick yeah last to play the final game sports management consultant Joe that's the
42:32second time today you've saved me no I look at you and I see someone who is totally totally intelligent
42:39but maybe doesn't always believe it or you're just really shy about it I don't know but I'd like to
42:47know at school I was called out in assembly because I got a hundred percent on my sats which was obviously
42:54a brilliant achievement but introverted shy Joe was like mortified going out to the front to get this
43:00certificate I know that I've carried that into my adult life I'm always told or like in meetings
43:07speak more or you know just yeah share what you're thinking sometimes I am holding back and I need to be
43:16more confident so I'm aware of that it's I think this is just really interesting for me to have some
43:26internal validation that actually I might be clever yeah me and my brother are very similar and he's very
43:33ambitious and he has achieved really great things and I don't know if it's I'm introverted he's not so
43:43introverted I'm female and he's male and I think there's some slight differences there that mean he has
43:49gone after things and and has achieved great things I think there's a real kind of value that can't really
44:03be replicated in believing in yourself I've had the privilege to see probably more than the rest how
44:12brilliantly you did it was me picking up that phone and listening to what you'd actually heard and
44:18thinking how simple what you told me was but how complex what I heard was you can have done that if
44:27you weren't smart Joe I would never have applied for something like this ten years ago because I didn't
44:38want to own or celebrate what I can do I shouldn't need the validation but it would just make me realize
44:44okay like people aren't making this up Joe you do have a different way of thinking and it's okay to
44:49celebrate that it'd be interesting to see how she gets on now she's not with Nathan one two three then we
45:02miss three she's got it she's got it she's got the sequence then we miss six one two three
45:13yes yes okay she's done that with ample time but if she really wants to get into the top three
45:21she has got to smash this come on Joe right as I'm reading out the colors I think this kind of reminds
45:28me of the cha-cha slide let's just go with it red three steps to the right blue one step to the left
45:36and I actually feel quite confident with this rhyme start the sequence green is two steps back wow two
45:49steps forward oh my goodness that's so quick blue is this one green is this one okay right goodness
45:55gracious that's great I think it's this one I'm well done wow wow wow someone's through to the finals in
46:02Oxford I'm gonna oh no press it I'll go again she's on the right spot I think she's doubting herself I'm
46:14really conscious of time but I think I will kick myself if this isn't the right place no let's just
46:22make sure to make sure it's accurate rather than fast no that's so not necessary you were right Joe
46:28she has such a problem with self-belief and confidence so agonizing then to see she's got to believe in
46:37herself she was in red three steps to the right green is two steps backwards blues step to the left this is the
46:48quick bit two one to do the pattern again I land in the same position and I think two out of two isn't
46:58bad let's just go for this one this is my final position come on yes she got both parts of the
47:11challenge right but she did take a little while didn't she all of us have done better than we
47:18thought we would do so that's it's got to be a positive so I'll still be a bit gutted if I go home
47:26next how could you not be hello everyone so what did you think of the game it was fun I thought it
47:36was fun flashing lights a bit of a disco that's what I thought yeah all I needed was a viennetta and a
47:41bottle of rose a it's a normal Saturday night for me okay well listen do you want the good news you
47:49all completed the game right so it's down to time okay I'm afraid the first person going through to
47:58the final and our top performer it was it was Ollie thank you I can't believe I'm in this final no I am
48:11gonna have to go home and chew on it for a bit well well done yeah thank you thank you you're crying
48:17yeah actually in second place and going through to the final it's Nathan and the last person going
48:32through to the final is it's Justin well done Justin I'm so pleased I've gone through oh yeah so please
48:47that I've gone through but you know it means someone's gotta go home it's horrible but you
48:50know you've done so well to get here you really have honestly it's all good I am glad that I at least
49:00got it right and I'm gutted that I didn't just back myself the first time it's got smash it this has to
49:07be a turning point now to trust myself and go for it good game through well played I can't believe that
49:17what a mess of emotions one hand really happy on one hand kind of surprised I'm absolutely good for Joe
49:23bless it and you did the best in that round I know isn't that mad they don't know it yet by the end of the
49:30competition two of them will discover their IQ scores are in the top one percent of the country up
49:37there with Marie Curie and Apple founder Steve Jobs funny I get compared to them all the time shit the
