00:00:01Oh, what a goal!
00:00:02Oh, look at that!
00:00:03Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:05Rudy Alcorn!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Hello.
00:00:51After a dramatic conclusion to the first phase of the Champions League
00:00:54on Wednesday night, four of the Premier League's six representatives
00:00:58are back in action amongst the five games on tonight's Match of the Day.
00:01:02Shea Gibbon and Steph Horton have had their eyes across all of it.
00:01:06Following back-to-back league wins, West Ham made the trip across London
00:01:09to Chelsea, where new boss Liam Resenia has made an impressive start.
00:01:13Commentary comes from Steve Wilson.
00:01:17Another day, another derby for Chelsea under their new boss.
00:01:20All four of his games in domestic competition have been against London clubs.
00:01:25And here's another one.
00:01:27Cole Palmer starts for only the second time under Rosinha.
00:01:30There are seven changes from the win in Naples.
00:01:33James, Cucurella, Pedro Neto and João Pedro are all on the bench.
00:01:37Estevão has had to return to Brazil for family reasons.
00:01:41West Ham's XI shows one change to that which beats Sunderland.
00:01:45El-Hajj Malik do've back in at left-back for his first hammer start since returning from AFCON.
00:01:51New signing Adama Traore is on the bench.
00:01:55He's got a rotten record here.
00:01:57West Ham only one win in their last 19 Premier League visits to Stamford Bridge.
00:02:02Nicely into Bowen.
00:02:05That's a really great ball by Bowen and it's gone in!
00:02:08It's gone all the way in.
00:02:11It's gone all the way in.
00:02:12I don't think Pablo got a touch on that.
00:02:14Jared Bowen runs away and celebrates and West Ham are in front.
00:02:18Sanchez deceived, maybe slightly put off by the waving boot of Pablo,
00:02:24but I don't think the new signing got a touch on it.
00:02:27Great ball into the box, but it's definitely a ball into the box rather than an attempt to score.
00:02:34But it ends up curling into the far corner and it's Chelsea nil.
00:02:39West Ham one.
00:02:41Playing some tidy stuff, West Ham.
00:02:44Here's Juan Bissaka.
00:02:46Castajanos in the middle.
00:02:48The clearance is only as far as Castajanos now.
00:02:51Bowen.
00:02:52Castajanos here.
00:02:54Went to Sanchez near post.
00:02:56And the keeper saved it.
00:02:58He lashed it into that near post.
00:03:00Sanchez stood firm.
00:03:07No foul.
00:03:08Oh, yes it is.
00:03:09Anthony Taylor's blown up.
00:03:12West Ham would be happy to debate that.
00:03:14Indeed they are debating that.
00:03:16It's miscontrolled really by Enzo Fernandez.
00:03:20Well, if he gets it in the top right as he looks at it, then fair play.
00:03:26Cole Palmer.
00:03:28He has gone that side.
00:03:29And Areola is there.
00:03:31It's just been an energy about West Ham which Chelsea has struggled to match.
00:03:39Despite the seven changes.
00:03:41Mattias Fernandez with a nice ball.
00:03:43Jared Bowen.
00:03:45Juan Bissaka.
00:03:46Gets it where he was pointing.
00:03:47He wanted it.
00:03:48And Somerville.
00:03:49Brilliant goal.
00:03:51It's an outstanding goal.
00:03:53Chelsea nil.
00:03:55West Ham two.
00:03:57And Crescencio Somerville has now scored in four games on the spin.
00:04:02It's been a desperately poor first half by Chelsea.
00:04:06They've created virtually nothing and look vulnerable defensively.
00:04:11And West Ham are taking full advantage.
00:04:14It's beautifully created and very, very well finished.
00:04:18Chelsea nil.
00:04:19West Ham two.
00:04:20Well, Chelsea are making three changes at half-time.
00:04:26Alejandro Garnaccio, Benoit Badia-Shiel and Joriel Harto
00:04:31to be replaced by João Pedro, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella.
00:04:38He's got options right and left.
00:04:40Somewhat pragmatic choice to play it back into Mattias Fernandez.
00:04:43But here is Mattias Fernandez.
00:04:44He can hit them.
00:04:45And he did.
00:04:46And Sanchez made a decent save.
00:04:48Well, he scored from outside the penalty area against Sunderland
00:04:51with a really terrific effort.
00:04:53A comfortable save, really, for Sanchez.
00:04:56They haven't lost the home league game Chelsea
00:04:58since Aston Villa came and beat them 2-1 just after Christmas.
00:05:03Fofana.
00:05:05That's a lovely ball.
00:05:07João Pedro.
00:05:09Chelsea are back in the game.
00:05:13It's a great run from Fofana.
00:05:15As two of those half-time substitutions combined.
00:05:22Look at this.
00:05:24From Fofana.
00:05:25He saw a little gap.
00:05:26He took the responsibility on himself.
00:05:29And he floated a lovely ball for João Pedro.
00:05:33Who nods in his 13th of the season.
00:05:35A bit of head, a bit of shoulder.
00:05:39But it doesn't matter.
00:05:40It's in the back of the West Ham net.
00:05:43And Chelsea are in business.
00:05:47Five up here, Chelsea.
00:05:49Cucurella.
00:05:50Five up and five back.
00:05:51Cucurella.
00:05:52It hits Wan-Bissaka.
00:05:53Corner, Chelsea.
00:06:00Taken to Parma.
00:06:09Arna Gusta.
00:06:12Caicedo.
00:06:13Good strike!
00:06:14Oh, Arreola!
00:06:16Alphonse Arreola with a wonderful touch here.
00:06:21That is heading for the top corner.
00:06:24But for that.
00:06:27Well, they came from behind.
00:06:29In Naples on Wednesday.
00:06:32To win.
00:06:33Clipped cross.
00:06:38Gusto is there.
00:06:39And it's dropping.
00:06:40It's at the bar.
00:06:41And Cucurella scores.
00:06:50Oh, what a difference those three half-time substitutes have made.
00:06:55Fofana with an assist.
00:06:58João Pedro with a goal.
00:07:00Marc Cucurella with a goal.
00:07:03It's a good header from Gusto.
00:07:06Touched onto his own bar by Kilman.
00:07:10And put in the back of the net by Cucurella.
00:07:142-2.
00:07:19Somerville for West Ham.
00:07:23Good challenge, Caicedo.
00:07:24Good persistence by Somerville.
00:07:27And it's a West Ham free kick.
00:07:28That's really good play by Somerville.
00:07:29And Anthony Taylor is getting out his yellow card for the first time today.
00:07:36Five to play.
00:07:38Matthias Fernandes for West Ham.
00:07:40Thomas Socek for West Ham.
00:07:42And Socek again.
00:07:43They've got plenty up here.
00:07:44Driven low.
00:07:45And...
00:07:46Oh, goodness me.
00:07:47Not quite sure how it hasn't gone in.
00:07:50From Todibo.
00:07:52Well, Socek here.
00:07:53Got a second chance to put it across.
00:07:55And when he did,
00:07:56Jean-Claire Todibo's hit the outside of the post from no kind of distance.
00:08:00Palmer.
00:08:01Caicedo.
00:08:02Joao Pedro.
00:08:03Oh, it's in for Menzo Fernandes.
00:08:04And Chelsea have surely won this game.
00:08:05With a second-half comeback to be savoured and remembered.
00:08:06Chelsea three.
00:08:07West Ham two.
00:08:08Enzo Fernandes.
00:08:09And Chelsea have surely won this game.
00:08:13With a second-half comeback to be savoured and remembered.
00:08:29Chelsea three.
00:08:32West Ham two.
00:08:34Enzo Fernandes.
00:08:39His 150th game for the club.
00:08:42He signed for them three years ago today.
00:08:45And he's earned them three points today.
00:08:49Heartbreak for the Hammers.
00:08:51And three points for Chelsea.
00:08:59It's going to be a West Ham corner here.
00:09:03And Joao Pedro and Adama Traore are getting involved.
00:09:07You're a brave man to take on, Adama Traore.
00:09:11It's all kicking off here.
00:09:16Well, pick the bones out of this when it eventually dies down.
00:09:22Joao Pedro has been shown a yellow card for his involvement.
00:09:26And they are still checking.
00:09:29This is Todibo after Joao Pedro.
00:09:31He's got him round the throat.
00:09:33And when they look at that, it could well be that...
00:09:36Jean-Claire Todibo will find himself in trouble here.
00:09:43After review.
00:09:45West Ham number 25.
00:09:48Grabs Chelsea 20 round the throat in a violent manner.
00:09:52So, Jean-Claire Todibo is dismissed.
00:09:59Well, Chelsea fans are enjoying the moment.
00:10:02But they have a corner to defend.
00:10:05We're now in the 11th added minute at the end of the game.
00:10:11Areola has come forward here.
00:10:13Shades of Benfica on Wednesday.
00:10:16In goes the corner kick.
00:10:18Headed out by Chalaba.
00:10:20And Chelsea have won this game.
00:10:23From 2-0 down at half-time.
00:10:25He was bold with his substitutions.
00:10:28And how they paid off.
00:10:30Chelsea were booed off by their fans at half-time.
00:10:35If they could get near them, they'd be carried off by their fans at full-time.
00:10:39Chelsea 3, West Ham 2.
00:10:43West Ham were by far the better team in the first half.
00:10:46In terms of our energy, our quality just wasn't there.
00:10:50We were lethargic.
00:10:51We made tired decisions.
00:10:53Our shape wasn't good enough.
00:10:55And they deserved to be 2-0 up.
00:10:57But for all of the things that I've asked from the players in terms of reacting positively to setbacks,
00:11:02the second half-performance was everything I want to see in a team.
00:11:06We have three more points and we need to continue in this way.
00:11:09Because at the end of the season, all of us, we have our moment,
00:11:12we have our opportunity and we need to stay together and win things with this club.
00:11:16It's frustrating and it's sad that this game went away from us.
00:11:20Why do you think it did?
00:11:22Apart from that Chelsea improved dramatically, obviously, with the changes they made.
00:11:26Yes.
00:11:27But the idea is to keep the same.
00:11:28The way we played our game in the first half was to continue, knowing that Chelsea is going to react.
00:11:34But we didn't defend it.
00:11:37We didn't defend it.
00:11:39Crosses, that created a lot of problems to us.
00:11:42And we'll talk about how West Ham didn't react to those changes in a moment.
00:11:45But it's the first time that Chelsea in Premier League history have ever gone on after being 2-0 down at half-time
00:11:51to earn themselves a victory.
00:11:52It was some comeback.
00:11:53Chelsea, though, obviously had five different starters in the starting line-up and made changes to the starting line-up.
00:12:00And West Ham exploited that.
00:12:02They knew Nuno set them up well to exploit the left-hand side.
00:12:04Yeah, lots of games, Chelsea as well.
00:12:05So Liam had to mix it up a wee bit, but definitely got it wrong first off.
00:12:08You know, the shape he mentioned himself there, the team shape was all wrong.
00:12:11We see here down the right-hand side, I think, you know, West Ham really made a huge advantage.
00:12:14You have Hato, and in front of Hato you've got Garnaccio, who probably didn't help him out too much in the afternoon.
00:12:20Again, Hato with Bowen in the air, he's not that physically strong in the air, but still doesn't get a clear header.
00:12:24And keep an eye on Garnaccio here.
00:12:26Can he sort of do more to defend or help his mate out?
00:12:28I think he can.
00:12:29I think he can match up the run here from Bowen.
00:12:31He doesn't.
00:12:32Then you think he gets back to the defensive shape.
00:12:33Now he's got to get close.
00:12:35Gabi, he's got to stop the crossing and stop the danger into the box.
00:12:37That ball shouldn't be coming in.
00:12:38And yes, there's a bit of confusion in the box between Sanchez, but Pablo hits the goalkeeper off.
00:12:43We see again, you know, Bowen keeping the width down.
00:12:45He's trying to stretch that back four.
00:12:47But this is Garnaccio.
00:12:48I think there are jumps.
00:12:49He shouldn't.
00:12:50He should help.
00:12:51He's made it.
00:12:52Now he can't get back in to help Hato.
00:12:53You know, it's a 2v2 situation.
00:12:54It's 2v1 now.
00:12:55He can't get back in.
00:12:56But Barrio Shield should come across here.
00:12:57It's not difficult to defend.
00:12:59I think the back four should literally slide across here.
00:13:01Barrio Shield could have come across.
00:13:02Chalaba and then Gusto slide across as well.
00:13:04And keep an eye on Casado next to the referee.
00:13:06He should nearly put the brakes on.
00:13:08And if they all slide across, they'll defend it much better.
00:13:11Casado gets linked to Castellanos.
00:13:13And now there's a big gaping hole in the edge of the box.
00:13:15Where I think Casado should be.
00:13:16Gusto should be around on the cover.
00:13:18And Casado should have the brakes on in that position.
00:13:20I think he cleans that up.
00:13:21And they don't score.
00:13:22But as Liam rightly says, they're all over the shop first half.
00:13:25He had a big decision to make at half-time.
00:13:27He needed to change something drastic.
00:13:28Speaking to his coaching staff there, he made big changes at the half-time break.
00:13:31Yeah, he didn't even really wait until half-time, did he?
00:13:34Because he clearly had in his mind what he was going to do.
00:13:36Because the players that he changed were out for the whole of half-time warming up, Steph.
00:13:40Yeah, I think he recognised that Chelsea had a really poor first half.
00:13:44And that was down to West Ham.
00:13:46And this is Pedro, Cucurell and Fafana warmed up for the majority of the first half-time interval.
00:13:52And they made such a difference for Chelsea.
00:13:55They brought intensity.
00:13:56They brought energy.
00:13:57They brought a little bit of experience in these games.
00:13:59And I think this is the first goal for Chelsea, I think, for Fafana on that right-hand side.
00:14:04That little quality back post cross where Pedro, who's on form for Chelsea at this moment in time,
00:14:09gets Chelsea back into the game.
00:14:11And then the fans at Stamford Bridge are really enjoying themselves.
00:14:14I think that the team's going to get back in.
00:14:16And Cucurella, he has highlighted.
00:14:18He loves these forward runs as the left-back.
00:14:20He likes to cause a bit of chaos in the box.
00:14:22West Ham have dropped so deep.
00:14:24And Pedro Neto puts a fantastic ball into Gusto, who heads it back across the goal.
00:14:28And there's Cucurella, who made that run to make it 2-2.
00:14:32And I've been so impressed with Jao Pedro.
00:14:34And it looks so simple, this goal.
00:14:36It's just forward running, forward passing, a cut-back and a great finish by Enzo.
00:14:41To get the win for Chelsea in the 90-second minute.
00:14:44And there's one happy manager on the side.
00:14:46I think his bravery is intelligent.
00:14:49And the impact of these subs was massive for Chelsea today.
00:14:52Yeah, a huge impact.
00:14:54It must be just the best feeling as a manager when you make those changes.
00:14:57And you see that come off.
00:14:58There was frustration, though, for West Ham.
00:15:00Because, you know, they were all over them in the first half.
00:15:03And you could see that kind of red mist was starting to rise a little bit, wasn't it?
00:15:06And there was a melee towards the end.
00:15:09Quite a few players got involved.
00:15:11And you give a two-goal lead away as well.
00:15:12Because they're fighting for their lives at the bottom.
00:15:13So already starts it, then Jao Pedro gets involved.
00:15:15And then the whole team, both teams are involved.
00:15:17And there's pushing and shoving from all angles.
00:15:19Anthony Taylor sort of stays away from it.
00:15:21Tries to get a good look at it.
00:15:22But it's nearly impossible to keep an eye on everything at this stage.
00:15:24And that's where I think it's a really good use of VAR.
00:15:27You see here, Tadebo gets...
00:15:29His eyes are gone, actually.
00:15:30His head's gone here.
00:15:31But you see he grabs him round the neck.
00:15:32Gabi, you can't do that.
00:15:34You know, that picture's gone round the world.
00:15:35It's poor from him.
00:15:36And the other thing, it's the last second they gave Anthony Taylor.
00:15:39There's no choice but to send him off.
00:15:40Now he's got three-game suspension.
00:15:42And West Ham, right in the trouble at the bottom,
00:15:45you're losing one of your main centre has for three games.
00:15:47That's a big, big loss.
00:15:48And Liam Rossiniar now becomes only the fourth English manager
00:15:52in Premier League history to win his first three Premier League games.
00:15:56There he is on that list there.
00:15:58And now has won six of seven.
00:16:01It's been an amazing start for him.
00:16:03They weren't languishing.
00:16:04They weren't kind of a sinking ship.
00:16:05But Moresco hadn't won a game in five.
00:16:07And he's turned that round.
00:16:08He's turned a bit of belief around.
00:16:09You know him well.
00:16:10Yeah.
00:16:11Yeah, I'm happy for him.
00:16:12I really am.
00:16:13And Justin Walker, his assistant and his backroom staff and all.
00:16:15They've worked hard to get into this position.
00:16:17And it might have come sooner than maybe they even thought.
00:16:19But again, you see his reaction at the end.
00:16:21All the staff together.
00:16:22As you say, there must be no better feeling working with your team all week.
00:16:25Going behind.
00:16:26He won't like that side of it.
00:16:27But to make them tactical changes, to make them switch at half-time
00:16:30and see it come together is absolutely brilliant.
00:16:32And for the players as well.
00:16:33That belief.
00:16:34When you see the manager making those changes.
00:16:35Yeah.
00:16:36And you earn the win.
00:16:37I think it's the belief in the whole squad.
00:16:38He spoke about the talented young players that he's got.
00:16:41And when the moments come when he needs to make the change,
00:16:43he believes in the boys that are coming off the bench.
00:16:45And that was for sure today.
00:16:46OK.
00:16:48Well, despite their domination of the Champions League,
00:16:50Arsenal's domestic form has been wobbling.
00:16:52With just two points taken from the last nine on offer.
00:16:55So, could they get back on track against a Leeds United side
00:16:58who are unbeaten in their last five at home?
00:17:00Guy Mowbray was at Elland Road.
00:17:05Every game here is a big game.
00:17:07And you get the idea that it's that sort of feeling
00:17:10that has helped a resurgence in the career of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
00:17:13With nine goals to his name since joining Leeds.
00:17:16It might even take him from being a three to the three Lions again.
00:17:20And a fixture that suggests intrigue and drama before the start
00:17:23has delivered before the start.
00:17:25With Pakai Osaka pulling out injured during the warm-up.
00:17:28Noni Madweke steps in for Arsenal.
00:17:30And there's a first Premier League start in almost a year for Kai Havertz.
00:17:34For Kai Havertz.
00:17:38Saliba.
00:17:43Saliba wasn't going anywhere fast there.
00:17:46Stack keeps it in play.
00:17:48Goodmanson's in support.
00:17:49And Purdue's there too, just a little bit deeper.
00:17:53Here's Goodmanson.
00:17:54Raya has to watch it across his goal.
00:18:00And it's Bogle who kicks the attack alive for Leeds, but...
00:18:03Oh, Rodon's done the same, that's a cracking tackle.
00:18:06Winning the ball, and Ampadu has a go, and that flew.
00:18:12And the flying shot is followed by a booming noise.
00:18:15Joe Rodon set the tone, that's a cruncher on Jocheres.
00:18:19Not too far over the bar, but sufficiently high for Raya not to break too much of a sweat.
00:18:28Think back to the end of November when there was serious talk about Daniel Farker's future.
00:18:34Since then, one defeat in ten Premier League matches.
00:18:39OK, they've drawn six of their last nine, but they've become a team that's really hard to beat.
00:18:43And throughout it all, he's ignored any external noise, and just got on with it his way.
00:18:49Timber.
00:18:54Muecke tricks it back to Timber.
00:18:58And Purdue, and a bit of a hoist, and it goes behind.
00:19:02Darlow can only catch it behind the line.
00:19:05Just remembering Daniel Farker yesterday, we can't afford to allow too many chances,
00:19:09don't allow them too many corners, the absolute minimum.
00:19:13I don't think they like the time that Arsenal are taking with all of their set pieces.
00:19:19In now from Muecke.
00:19:21Only a half-punch really from Darlow, Declan Rice.
00:19:26Muecke.
00:19:27It takes on Goodmanson, has the angle now.
00:19:31Zuby Mendy!
00:19:33And Arsenal have the goal, but they've been threatening for quite a while.
00:19:36Well, he might not have been scheduled to start this match, but Nony Maduecke is taking his chance delightfully.
00:19:48He's finding the space, then he's in just the position he wants to be, and so was Zuby Mendy.
00:19:59He heads in his fifth goal of the season, and it's Leeds United nil, Arsenal one.
00:20:03There's Timba now, Maduecke.
00:20:08Maduecke again gets the room that he needs to win the corner, that's the Arsenal game.
00:20:13We're going to be 37 minutes in, six Arsenal corners.
00:20:22What page are they going to turn to this time?
00:20:24This time.
00:20:29Rocares has been left at the back again, Darlow, oh he's lost it!
00:20:32And it's gone in!
00:20:37Karl Darlow is livid.
00:20:40That was his to claim, but it went in off him.
00:20:47Bent in viciously by Maduecke as Leeds tried to second guess what Arsenal were going to do with this latest corner.
00:20:55Two hands to it, but straight down and in off the post.
00:20:58Darlow own goal, that will be.
00:21:07Aronson, Okafor.
00:21:11Cuts to it ahead of Gabriel, here's Bogle now.
00:21:16He gets the deflection, it's behind for Leeds corner.
00:21:18That attack took place without Brendan Aronson, who will get back to his feet and try and join in again now.
00:21:28That's where he went down.
00:21:31Okafor does well.
00:21:32Bogle did pretty much the only thing he could do.
00:21:37No way through to Calvert-Lewin from there and nobody else to look for.
00:21:43And that's Strauch!
00:21:44David Reier has a shot to save for the first time in the game.
00:21:49All he had to do was pretty much fall on it, but it was going in without him.
00:21:53It's Trossard, he's been caught by Bogle, but not before he's swept it up towards Jokeres.
00:22:06Great tackle from Joe Rodon, that's a goal saver.
00:22:08Okafor has goal side.
00:22:12Maybe a fully confident and a really tuned-in Premier League goalscorer hits that first time.
00:22:28Ludegaard seeing plenty of the ball since coming on.
00:22:31Inviting Martinelli to chase that, oh, strike jumped into the tackle, didn't get it right.
00:22:34Didn't get it right.
00:22:37In from Martinelli, and turned in by Jokeres, it's 3-0 Arsenal.
00:22:49And that will seal it.
00:22:54They might not be done for the day, but they've certainly done enough for the day.
00:22:57I think Leeds paid the price here for Pascal Strauch jumping into a tackle he was never likely to win.
00:23:06Gave Martinelli the room to put the cross in.
00:23:10And it really is a peach of a cross.
00:23:12And Jokeres had muscled his way in front of Bogle.
00:23:17Bogle's hanging on, couldn't stop him scoring with his shin.
00:23:20Declan Rice.
00:23:28Declan Rice.
00:23:30Declan Rice is on a big long charge here.
00:23:33And he's got the ball back.
00:23:35And teed up another chance, but Gabriel Jesus has tapped it wide.
00:23:39Rice got right into his long strides there.
00:23:44And Jesus couldn't profit.
00:23:45Zubi Mendy.
00:23:47Timber.
00:23:49Wicked ball in, oh good save Darlow.
00:23:50Gabriel Jesus was thundering that one home.
00:23:52All the signs are now that having got three, Arsenal intend to pulverise Leeds.
00:23:55Rice.
00:23:56Califiori.
00:23:57Califiori, and Odegaard is tracking in the midfield.
00:23:59Califiori finds him.
00:24:00And Odegaard gets it into Gabriel Jesus.
00:24:02Oh, good save Darlow.
00:24:03Oh, good save Darlow.
00:24:04Gabriel Jesus was thundering that one home.
00:24:06All the signs are now that having got three, Arsenal intend to pulverise Leeds.
00:24:09tend to pulverise Leeds, Rice, Calafiore, Odegaard is tracking in the midfield, Calafiore finds him and Odegaard gets it into Gabriel Jesus, a really good turn, Jesus with the shot, a really good finish as well, 4-0 Arsenal, it's been a breeze in the Yorkshire rain, what a statement victory this is for Arsenal,
00:24:39questions asked after two goalless draws and then defeat to Manchester United at home, they had to roar back today, they've done it with interest added on, Elendrode, a bare pit of football, one of the most difficult away games to win in this or any season, and Arsenal haven't just won here, they've smashed it here, Leeds United nil, Arsenal 4.
00:25:05So is that good down as pretty much the perfect away day?
00:25:08Yeah, listen, you can't get much better, we know how tough it is to come here, they've been in good form, but yeah, four goals and a clean sheet, which is something that we've been trying to improve in the last few games, you know, defending our goal, defending our box, and yeah, so we're really happy with it, and today was a great day.
00:25:26Yes, we won't dwell under this game, so we're not ready to have on an average day against the best side in Europe, an easy win here at home was always a difficult, difficult game, of course we were hoping for a better result anyhow, but today you have to say, yeah, they've shown all their quality, and we didn't have our very best day,
00:25:46and for that, yeah, we move on, we will put this game pretty, pretty quickly to bed, and then concentrate, you know, on the upcoming tasks.
00:25:52The team showed a real dominance, resilience, character, and then obviously quality, so we had the moments to punish them, we certainly did that, and everybody, the starters, the finishers, I really like the attitude of the team.
00:26:05It's gone down as an own goal, do you think it should be yours?
00:26:08How can that be an own goal? It was going on target, if the keeper's not in the goal, then it goes in, so I don't understand how that's an own goal, so Premier League, please take a look at that and fix it for me.
00:26:18Steph, you have a look at it first, do you agree?
00:26:21I agree, why not give it to Madweke, he had a great game, and I think for me, I think we've been speaking about Arsenal's strength and depth a lot this season,
00:26:30in terms of what it takes to get to that next level and to win titles, and I think today was a huge evidence of the Arsenal squad that they have,
00:26:38and I think for me, Madweke played a massive part for that to come in for Bakayo Saka, coming in 10 minutes before kick-off,
00:26:45and trying to play with the quality and the intensity that's expected, and he did a great job on that right-hand side,
00:26:52this comes from a second-phase corner, he's patient, he has good quality, and it puts a ball into the box,
00:26:57and it's up to Zubomendi to get his head on it, and this is the contentious goal, I think we have to give it to him,
00:27:03it's a great delivery in that near post, and it makes it difficult for Leeds, and Leeds really struggled,
00:27:07and not only just his delivery, but his movement, his awareness of space, and trying to mix up his game,
00:27:13and allows people to get in the box, and another day with a better cross with his weaker foot,
00:27:18that could have been another goal for Arsenal, and I think this just shows the strength and depth
00:27:22of bringing Martinelli on that right-hand side again, same type of movement, ball from Odegaard,
00:27:28Martinelli on this right-hand side, being patient, recognising when's the right time to cross on his weaker foot,
00:27:33and Giocares with his sixth goal of the season, Arsenal's goal from open play,
00:27:38and then another number nine coming on, Jesus, experienced player, shows his real quality strength
00:27:43against Leeds, and a great finish, and I think today for Arsenal, it could have been a difficult game
00:27:48at Ellen Road, but they really silenced the crowd, and it was overall real team performance.
00:27:54Steph just shown some of Arsenal's great play from, you know, open play, their goals from open play,
00:27:59but still OG is their joint second highest scorer, so we know the set piece is so important to them,
00:28:05and we're not going to kind of sit here and wax lyrical about that, we know the stats.
00:28:09You have been set a challenge, which is to look at it from a different angle.
00:28:13Well, I wish some coaches up and down the Premier League might do the same,
00:28:16because every single week we see the same set-up, and we've seen it today from Leeds,
00:28:19the goals are so important in set plays, and we're taking nothing away from Arsenal,
00:28:21they're absolutely brilliant, the best in the league, but if you look at the Leeds set-up,
00:28:24I see this every single week, I see Arsenal load up the back,
00:28:27all the Leeds players on the zone, they're all watching the ball,
00:28:30and they just cause carnage, the Arsenal players from around the back.
00:28:33They've got a run and jump on the blind side of the Leeds players,
00:28:36and it's just mayhem, this time they get it clear, but again, every single set-up's the same,
00:28:40and these Arsenal players around the back, you see all the Leeds players, they're facing the ball,
00:28:44they should be open up, open their shoulders, see where the Arsenal players are coming from,
00:28:47try and get a block, try and get a charge, but again, the Arsenal players rubbing their hands,
00:28:51and this team have set up the same as the team last week, Man United, the team before,
00:28:54someone can try something different, to try and stop this brilliant attack,
00:28:58I'm not taking nothing away from Arsenal, I'm looking more at the defensive side of things,
00:29:01how can they do this better, look at the many bodies, I think there's actually 16 bodies in there,
00:29:05including the goalkeeper, it's pandemonium, Darlow can't get a clean punch,
00:29:08because he can't get near the ball, that's the part of their job, keep it life,
00:29:11and look at Cal Verloon, he's the near post-hole man,
00:29:13and yes, he's a striker, but he should stay in that position,
00:29:16watch the space here that Zubi Mendy scores from, if Cal Verloon stays there,
00:29:19and he heads us clear, Gabri, he steps up for no apparent reason,
00:29:22it's a brilliant ball, don't get me wrong from Madowiecki,
00:29:23and a fantastic header, I'm not trying to take it away from Arsenal's set-up,
00:29:26but it's poor defending from Leeds, and the first two goals,
00:29:29which sort of killed the atmosphere, you know the atmosphere like at Ellen Road,
00:29:31it's brilliant, but these two first goals killed them,
00:29:34and this is the, well, the own goal from Darlow,
00:29:35but we do think it should have been Madowiecki,
00:29:37but I think he shouts here, Darlow, but, you know, Cal Verloon should really duck,
00:29:41it's a real mess at the back, don't get me wrong,
00:29:43it should be given to Madowiecki, but it's a mess,
00:29:45so bear well for me now, I'm going to just try and say,
00:29:47what can you do different, people at home, what can you do different,
00:29:50and we've just sort of done a bit of a graph,
00:29:52I'm just thinking, how do you sort of release the numbers,
00:29:54make it more space in the box, if Leeds leave three up,
00:29:56just for example, Arsenal are going to have to leave at least three,
00:29:59if not four players back, to defend this set play,
00:30:02so what that does now in the Leeds defending box is,
00:30:04a lot more space, both for the goalkeepers, for the defenders to go and hit it,
00:30:07and yes, people say there's more space for the attackers as well,
00:30:10but a part of all them numbers in the box,
00:30:12it causes so much confusion, defending corners,
00:30:14and I just wish a coach up and down,
00:30:16can't we go, do you know what, we'll leave three up,
00:30:18what are Arsenal going to do, ask a question off Arsenal,
00:30:20what are they going to do, because they do,
00:30:22every team seems to do the same thing,
00:30:23and they keep conceding, so it's just something to think about, Gabby.
00:30:26And Monaco, as it have done.
00:30:28Yeah, Monaco done, I think, the last, probably team,
00:30:29one of the last teams to do it,
00:30:30I don't remember too many teams in the Premier League doing it,
00:30:33and they didn't score from that, you know,
00:30:34so I just, I mean, they could still score with leaving three up,
00:30:36but at the same time, you know,
00:30:38I think it's something maybe teams might look at.
00:30:40Let's just wait and see, shall we, Dave,
00:30:42if they're watching tonight.
00:30:42For Arsenal, though, to go to a hostile environment like Ellen Road,
00:30:45Leeds have only now, after that game,
00:30:47lost two in their last 11,
00:30:48they've been on a great run of form,
00:30:50that scoreline, that performance,
00:30:52is one that will quieten any nerves
00:30:54that might have started to have crept in.
00:30:56Yeah, definitely, because there's been a lot of noise
00:30:58about Arsenal's recent performances and results,
00:31:00and the focus on where they are scoring their goals,
00:31:02so to go at Ellen Road and perform the way
00:31:04and be so dominant,
00:31:06they are in the driving force now.
00:31:08Seven points clear.
00:31:09OK, winless in their last five in the Premier League,
00:31:12Liverpool face Newcastle,
00:31:13who haven't won a league game at Anfield since 1994.
00:31:17Steve Bauer, watch this one.
00:31:21One of the iconic Premier League fixtures,
00:31:23and one which normally delivers.
00:31:26Liverpool are without the injured Frimpong,
00:31:28but they are able to welcome back Canarte
00:31:30after a three-game absence due to the death of his father.
00:31:34So Voslai moves to right-back,
00:31:36Kerkhez returns at left-back.
00:31:38After their Champions League draw in Paris,
00:31:40Eddie Howe leads both Voltemada and Visser on the bench,
00:31:44Gordon, Ilanga and Barnes all start.
00:31:47They're again without Bruno Gimurais.
00:31:49Newcastle have lost all nine Premier League games.
00:31:52Their captain has missed.
00:31:55Liverpool have drawn their last two at home,
00:31:57Newcastle who've won just two away from home
00:32:00in the Premier League all season.
00:32:03No foul by Sir Voslai.
00:32:15Under pressure from Gordon.
00:32:17He was caught by Gordon,
00:32:19and the man who was sent off in this fixture
00:32:21back in August is shown a yellow card.
00:32:25Gordon was committed and he was late.
00:32:26Alexander Rizak is here.
00:32:31Obviously honourable to Pace's former club.
00:32:37Gordon to turn.
00:32:40And to find Barnes.
00:32:42And he's got Hall on the overlap.
00:32:45Still Barnes.
00:32:46Caught by Gravenberg.
00:32:50The Newcastle free kick.
00:32:53Just invited the touch.
00:32:54Ball leaves it.
00:32:59It's Barnes!
00:33:03So close to a Newcastle lead.
00:33:08Alisson was beaten.
00:33:11It was bending, just not quite enough.
00:33:13Now Willock.
00:33:14Up against the boss line.
00:33:29Knew he had Hall as an option.
00:33:30And Barnes, it's concluded.
00:33:32Gordon!
00:33:32Anthony Gordon, who've gone 32 Premier League games without a goal in open play, scores at the cup end to give Newcastle the lead.
00:33:47And you have to say on the balance of play, Newcastle deserve it.
00:33:52But it was too easy from a Liverpool point of view, through the legs of KerkƩz and into that bottom corner.
00:33:59It's 10th of the season in all competitions.
00:34:02Ertel Van Dijk there, we're too open.
00:34:08And he's spot-on.
00:34:13Eketike.
00:34:15KerkƩz bursting away to his left, he went for Gakpo instead.
00:34:18Now Salah, more promising from Liverpool's point of view, good defending from Newcastle.
00:34:23Vietz trying to dance his way through, and did, and Eketike has levelled it for Liverpool.
00:34:31Well, this blossoming relationship between Florian Vietz and Hugo Eketike on show again.
00:34:39And the man Eddie Howe tried twice to sign, has now scored in both fixtures against his team.
00:34:47And Newcastle held their lead for four minutes, 50 seconds.
00:34:57And they've got defending to do here with Eketike again!
00:35:00And they've got defending to do here with Eketike again!
00:35:04At the double!
00:35:06What a turnaround!
00:35:07And one man right at the heart of it.
00:35:10KerkƩz with the ball, but he has so much still to do here.
00:35:14Hugo Eketike.
00:35:16And then he just calmly poked that, accurately, past Nick Pote.
00:35:24Two goals in two minutes from the Frenchman.
00:35:28And Eddie Howe didn't need reminding of why he was so desperate to have him.
00:35:33And it's come to Willock.
00:35:42Ravenberg stood his ground.
00:35:44As the boss will give back for Eketike to chase, he's got past Byrne, Eketike!
00:35:50The whole of Anfield expected.
00:36:00Dan Byrne's relieved.
00:36:02Hugo Eketike has never scored a club hat-trick in his career.
00:36:08And most Liverpool supporters thought this was the moment.
00:36:20Tonale, the referee has pulled that back for the foul on Ramsey.
00:36:25Yellow card for McAllister.
00:36:26Trippi is delivering.
00:36:27Up went Chow.
00:36:28It dropped to Barnes!
00:36:29What a save from Alisson!
00:36:30Big save from the Liverpool goalkeeper.
00:36:32That side flag went up in the end.
00:36:34Backpone away.
00:36:35That's it back to Mekitike.
00:36:36Hits to Salah, back to Wirtz!
00:36:37What a save from Alisson, big save from the Liverpool goalkeeper.
00:36:42That side flag went up in the end.
00:36:50Nakpo in the way, gets it back to Mekotike.
00:36:57Hits to Salah, back to Witts!
00:37:00Two in a week, 6-11 now for Florian Witts.
00:37:10He's more than finding his feet.
00:37:14Now he's got Liverpool a two-goal advantage.
00:37:19It was Nakpo's interception initially.
00:37:23And then came the interchange between Witts and Mo Salah.
00:37:27And that was precision from the German.
00:37:35Look at that for placement.
00:37:39Nonsense goals from Andy Cole and Rob Lee in April of 94,
00:37:44have they won a league game here.
00:37:46And they're 3-1 down in this one.
00:37:48Willock.
00:37:53Liverpool on the charge again.
00:37:55Witts looking for Salah.
00:37:59Still going, Salah!
00:38:03He was determined still to take it on his left.
00:38:07And Salah, who has ten career goals against Newcastle,
00:38:11couldn't steer that one on target.
00:38:13Huge kick from Alisson.
00:38:19Oh, Gakpo's got there.
00:38:21Can he finish it?
00:38:22Stepping inside looking for Chiesa.
00:38:25Still Gakpo, that's brilliant from him.
00:38:28Off burn for a corner.
00:38:33Preserve more there, Cody Gakpo.
00:38:35Here comes the boss light.
00:38:36Pope dropped it.
00:38:37Canate!
00:38:38Seals it.
00:38:39Once and for all.
00:38:40His seventh Liverpool goal.
00:38:41To make it 4-1.
00:38:43And after all the personal heartache he's been through recently.
00:38:46That's a big moment for him in front of the Kop and those Liverpool supporters.
00:38:51And Liverpool have come back from a losing position to win in the Premier League for the first time all season by four goals to one.
00:38:54And Liverpool have come back from a losing position to win in the Premier League for the first time all season by four goals to one.
00:38:55And Liverpool have come back from a losing position to win in the Premier League for the first time all season by four goals to one.
00:39:25What a moment after what he's been through.
00:39:29Yeah, he's had a very difficult two weeks.
00:39:32And when he saw the problems we had defensively he called me at the beginning of this week saying that he would be back for this game because he wanted to help the team.
00:39:40And that says a lot about him.
00:39:42When you go to Paris and you see elements of that performance, you see elements of today's performance, you think we look a really good team.
00:39:47But we're not putting that together for 90 minutes, that's been an issue for us all season.
00:39:52So we're still working towards becoming the team that we want to be.
00:39:56When we went 1-0 down, I think we come together as a group, as a team and fight back.
00:40:03What about this relationship with Hugo Eketika you've got and another two fabulous goals for him tonight?
00:40:08Yeah, I think everyone saw again what a great player he already is.
00:40:14He's so fast, has such a good finish and it's just a joy to play with him.
00:40:22Well the narrative around tonight could have been so different.
00:40:25You've got Alexander Isak injured sitting in the crowd and of course Newcastle wanted Eketika and couldn't get him.
00:40:31But tonight he was purring for Liverpool.
00:40:34He really was and he could tell that he was really up for this game.
00:40:37I feel as though he wanted to really prove a point and he's slowly becoming Liverpool's star man, I think with Isak injured.
00:40:44I think in that number nine position, in the run of form that Liverpool have been on, I think tonight he was exceptional.
00:40:50He was involved in everything that Liverpool did well going forward.
00:40:53This is early on in the game, he's testing Nick Pope.
00:40:56He's wanting to try and get in the ball.
00:40:58Virts is constantly looking to see where he is and he's becoming Liverpool's playmaker.
00:41:03Eketika, central, trying to cause the centre half's problems.
00:41:06It might not come off in this instance but he's in the right position at the right time.
00:41:10Again, he never really ever stands still and I like the fact that he wants to face forward.
00:41:14He's on the half turn, he's driving forward and trying to create problems for Newcastle's back four.
00:41:19He doesn't stop running then and when the ball comes to Virts here, the only thought that he has,
00:41:24and this is brilliant by Virts, is to pull it back and a great finish with the outside of his foot, Shea.
00:41:29Yeah, he makes these channel runs all day long.
00:41:32He's brilliant to stretch in the opposition, of course he is.
00:41:35And it hurts me from a Newcastle point of view that he could be wearing a black and white shirt.
00:41:38But that's a brilliant finish, Gabby, he hits it early.
00:41:40Nick Pope's got no chance, you know, quick feet.
00:41:42And again, he's so direct when he gets the ball, running at the back four of Newcastle,
00:41:45causing all sorts of problems.
00:41:46Another little link up for Virts there could have come off nice.
00:41:49But here we go again.
00:41:50This is nearly a lost cause, you think Dan Burns in control here.
00:41:53A little mistake from Dan.
00:41:54And again, he's not scored a hat-trick in his whole senior career.
00:41:56He probably won't get a better chance his whole senior career.
00:41:58He just walked past the Newcastle fans and got a bit of stick there.
00:42:01And then he's got a hero's welcome with the Liverpool fans.
00:42:03That's the life of a striker.
00:42:05You know, he's picked Liverpool and all the signings he did make in the summer,
00:42:08Ekotiki's probably the standout player and he's done really well.
00:42:11And, you know, we mentioned Florian Virts as well.
00:42:14He's finding his feet now.
00:42:15He's finding the physicality at the start, maybe a bit too much.
00:42:17But now he's finding them pockets and you see the combinations there.
00:42:20Him and Ekotiki linking up really, really well.
00:42:22And that was Liverpool's first Premier League win of 2026.
00:42:26Did they look to you like they're getting back to the kind of form
00:42:29that is going to see them pushing for those top four places?
00:42:32Definitely traits of Liverpool of all them.
00:42:34Fast attacks, them intense runs, players running forward.
00:42:37And you're getting players like Ekotiki inverts in form.
00:42:40And a massive reaction from them.
00:42:42Obviously getting beat off Bournemouth in the last minute of the game.
00:42:44Heartbreak for Liverpool.
00:42:46But I think to go back to Anfield and to make that a bit more of a fortress
00:42:49is something that they would want to do for the rest of the season.
00:42:52And for Newcastle, it's worrying how poor they've been on the road.
00:42:56Because they've won two games in 12.
00:42:57Now that's all away from home.
00:42:59No doubt home is where the heart is.
00:43:01But away in Europe they're doing all right.
00:43:03Yeah, I mean the big result obviously in Paris midweek.
00:43:05And maybe that sort of played into the first half they were good today.
00:43:08I mean Barnes at the post.
00:43:09Gordon looked really good as a number nine.
00:43:11But in the Premier League two ones in 12 is simply not good enough.
00:43:13They want to get back into the to the Champions League next year
00:43:16through the Premier League.
00:43:17But when you look at the table it's going to be a struggle now Gabby.
00:43:19Yeah, but they obviously had a tough week didn't they?
00:43:21Yeah, tough week.
00:43:22Travel going back.
00:43:23It's the same for everybody.
00:43:24Yeah, true.
00:43:25But that's where they want to be.
00:43:26They want to be in the Champions League, the Premier League.
00:43:27But there's some tough games coming up soon as well for them.
00:43:30OK.
00:43:31Sad news this evening as it was announced that Lord David Treisman
00:43:35has passed away at the age of 82.
00:43:37A passionate Spurs fan, he was the first independent chair of the FA
00:43:41between 2008 and 2010.
00:43:43He was a staunch campaigner against racism in the game
00:43:46and a vocal supporter of women's football.
00:43:48The thoughts of everyone here at Match of the Day are with his family
00:43:52and friends.
00:43:53We have four games on Sunday's Match of the Day.
00:43:57It's a sweet, sweet goal from Evie Buendia.
00:44:04Igor Tiago!
00:44:06That is a sensational goal!
00:44:12Oh, brilliant!
00:44:14Silawani, wonderful goal!
00:44:17It's Mila Saar!
00:44:19It's Michalasen!
00:44:20And you can follow all of Sunday's action on 5 Live and BBC Sounds from midday.
00:44:35Also on Sunday, you can listen to live commentary of Carlos Alcaraz
00:44:38against Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open men's final from 8 to 30.
00:44:43And there's live WSL on BBC One.
00:44:45Manchester City are taking on Chelsea from 5 past 2 and beginning on Friday.
00:44:50So, you want me to tell you how to become a champion in Milan?
00:45:11Watch and you will see.
00:45:17Looking forward to that.
00:45:23Well, Wolves' mini-revival under Rob Edwards ended last weekend at Manchester City.
00:45:28Visitors Bournemouth have won two of their last three in the league.
00:45:31Chris Wise was at Molyneux.
00:45:35A chaotic month for most, but none more so than Wolves.
00:45:38In the hours ahead, who leaves? Who fancies the fight?
00:45:42Rob Edwards' team, by the barest of margins, are still in this fight.
00:45:46Three changes after the defeat to Manchester City for Wolves.
00:45:49Krejci is ill, so Agbedou replaces him.
00:45:52Gomez and Orekadare are also in.
00:45:54The much-discussed Jürgenstrand Larsson on the bench again.
00:45:58No need for Andoni Iraiola to touch his Bournemouth XI.
00:46:01But he has a couple of new faces on his bench, including 19-year-old Brazilian forward Ryan.
00:46:07This was the fixture last season that produced some Premier League history.
00:46:13Three Bournemouth penalties, all converted by Justin Kluivert.
00:46:17He's not on the pitch today, but Evan Nielsen is.
00:46:20And he's the player that won them all.
00:46:22That's Wang slipping it through.
00:46:25This is Rodrigo Gomez!
00:46:27And then in from Mane!
00:46:29But the celebrations are cut short.
00:46:34It's the offside flag that will deny Wolves here.
00:46:39And it is the right call, because that run is made a little too early.
00:46:46But right place again, as he has been several times in recent weeks.
00:46:52He's just got to try and make sure that what happened last week at Manchester City,
00:46:57which has happened to so many, being beaten at the Etihad,
00:47:00doesn't disrupt their flow.
00:47:01Because prior to that, there were four unbeaten in the Premier League.
00:47:04AndrƩ, not enough purchase on the pass.
00:47:06Scott just skips in to win it back for Bournemouth.
00:47:09And then they work it nicely.
00:47:11Oh, what a lovely goal from Junior Kruppi!
00:47:14Now that is one teenager who is sparkling.
00:47:18Another brilliant Bournemouth goal from 19-year-old Eli Junior Kruppi.
00:47:25And Wolves, they've been rigid and then suddenly they've been undone
00:47:30by something very special indeed.
00:47:32The technique on that is superb.
00:47:35He has to take a sharp initial touch and then decides,
00:47:39yeah, it sat up nicely for me, I'm going to have a go.
00:47:42And he loops it up and over Jose Sartre.
00:47:50Just a sense, isn't there?
00:47:51More than a sense that Wolves need something to lift them before half-time.
00:47:57And instead Bournemouth come charging forward.
00:47:59Junior Kruppi slips it in.
00:48:01Adley goes round Sartre, who's nowhere,
00:48:03and then thankfully was somewhere at the end of it all.
00:48:08Good recovery in the end from Wolverhampton Wanderers number one.
00:48:14He seems to be a little irritated with something that has happened off the back of that.
00:48:18Well, that's what happens.
00:48:20Sartre just has a little flick, really, at the face of early junior Kruppi,
00:48:26who understandably didn't particularly like that.
00:48:29And there are still words being exchanged between Bournemouth goalscorer and Wolveskeeper at half-time.
00:48:35Bournemouth have won seven of their last eight away games against teams who were inside the Premier League's bottom three,
00:48:47with the exception of a defeat at Rob Edwards, Luton Town, almost two years ago.
00:48:53And immediately Bournemouth striding forward looking for a second and Sartre has stopped that.
00:49:01That was Alex Jimenez making some immense progress into Wolves' penalty area.
00:49:07That's a worry for Wolves being that open that early into the second half.
00:49:11Jose Sartre wants everyone in front of him to be a little more secure.
00:49:21Hugo Bueno.
00:49:26Delivery for Orekadari, that's a super stop, Petrovic.
00:49:30And that is Wolves' best chance of the game.
00:49:34Couldn't really have met that any more cleanly, Orekadari.
00:49:38And Petrovic suddenly in the spotlight.
00:49:44And here comes Rayan for his Premier League debut, the 19-year-old Brazilian.
00:49:49Let's see what he's all about, shall we?
00:49:58Belbard and Larsson.
00:50:01Strand Larsson.
00:50:03Gets the corner.
00:50:04Selesi sliding at his feet, immediate impact from the Norwegian.
00:50:10So rather than little and large up front, it's now large and large.
00:50:14Orekadari and Strand Larsson.
00:50:16And those two Wolves forwards are flanking goalkeeper Petrovic here.
00:50:22That's where the ball's going as well.
00:50:23Evan Nilsson's done exceptionally well to stop it.
00:50:29Another delivery which comes all the way through to Agbedou, who's teed it up.
00:50:35Larsson on the follow-up.
00:50:37Has missed the chance for Wolves.
00:50:38He'd only been on the pitch two minutes, Jürgen Strand Larsson.
00:50:44And he scuffed the opportunity.
00:50:53Run by Belgaard with some persistence.
00:50:55Orekadari.
00:50:56Is this the chance for Wolves?
00:50:59Still Orekadari.
00:51:01Orekadari over the top.
00:51:03And it's the same old story for Wolves.
00:51:07They were falling at his feet and having done everything he needed to do.
00:51:12The most important part he didn't get right.
00:51:14And another afternoon where Wolves are still without a goal.
00:51:20But a sense maybe that one's coming.
00:51:22Arias gets the corner off Trouffer.
00:51:25And some encouragement at least coming from those Wolves fans.
00:51:31But they need a dash of quality here Wolves.
00:51:34Into the final ten minutes we go.
00:51:36Caller from Bueno.
00:51:37The header's hit the post.
00:51:41Back in again from Mane and Bournemouth.
00:51:44Clearing away.
00:51:45That's how close Shuao Gomez was to finding that Wolves leveller.
00:51:51And they are getting closer now.
00:51:55Bournemouth build with Enesu now in the forward line.
00:52:00Arias gets there in front of Adam Smith but Bournemouth have it again with Christie.
00:52:05Christie's got it to Rayanne.
00:52:07Trouffer who has to readjust the body.
00:52:14And realign the Bournemouth attack.
00:52:15We've got a player down by the way while they're continuing.
00:52:18Here's Rayanne. Good strength from him.
00:52:23Across it goes and now Bournemouth seal it.
00:52:25Through Alex Scott.
00:52:26Made by the new boy Rayanne and finished decisively by one of England's hot talents.
00:52:36And this Bournemouth team look very exciting indeed don't they?
00:52:41Rayanne with power and then ultimately precision to find the pass for Alex Scott.
00:52:46Who made sure with his finish that there was not a chance for Sartre.
00:52:51And now there is not a chance for Wolves.
00:52:53Because it is Wolves nil. Bournemouth 2.
00:52:56Job done for Andoni, Iraiola and co.
00:52:59I think it's a very important good win from our side.
00:53:04It's always difficult to win away.
00:53:06And the game probably you see 2-0 but I feel the game has been quite levelled.
00:53:10I think we've had good moments.
00:53:12We've gone ahead 1-0 but they've had moments where they've been pushing a lot.
00:53:16You could see the 1-1 coming.
00:53:18But I think we've suffered well, we've defended well.
00:53:23And when we scored obviously it was over.
00:53:25Loads of chances.
00:53:26We hit the woodwork, keepers made a great save.
00:53:28A couple of other really big chances that we have got to do better with.
00:53:32You know, not now just going to say we've created chances.
00:53:35We've got to do better.
00:53:37And if we take those chances then obviously I'm standing here in front of you
00:53:41talking about a very different game.
00:53:43I think when you were 19, eight goals also hasn't started every game.
00:53:47Lately he's starting every time but at the beginning he had to fight for his minutes.
00:53:51How can we put you, even with Evan Nilsson, how can we make it work so both of you can play together.
00:53:59And he's giving us this work rate so we can keep him on the pitch.
00:54:02We're getting used to seeing Bournemouth unearthed gems, aren't we?
00:54:06And two young players in particular caught your eye.
00:54:08Yeah, definitely.
00:54:09I mean, you just spoke out of Mayor Kruppi and Alex Scott.
00:54:12They were brilliant today.
00:54:13They really were.
00:54:15And they picked up actually in recent weeks in Bournemouth.
00:54:17The results were a bit sticky there between me.
00:54:18The last, you know, five results have really picked up.
00:54:20And these two today really went away from home.
00:54:22Kruppi's only 19 years of age and he's playing way beyond these years.
00:54:25Alex Scott's still 22, still very young but they linked up really well today.
00:54:28You see Kruppi here receives the ball.
00:54:31Is there an opportunity to shoot?
00:54:32And the thing I like about this young man, he's not shy of shooting.
00:54:35You know, he's just been in the team.
00:54:36Areola says he deserves to be in the team because he's that sort of player.
00:54:39This is Scott doing both sides of the thing, you know, as a defensive midfielder, you know, mopping things up.
00:54:44Now driving into the heart of the Wolves defence.
00:54:46And this goal is world-class goal from Kruppi.
00:54:49It really is.
00:54:50He's no right to score from that.
00:54:51It just bobbles up and he smashes into the top corner.
00:54:53Again, Scott's not scared of a tackle either.
00:54:55And Aldi, you know, it's really playing forward when they get a chance.
00:54:59And I just think they're really impressive.
00:55:01There's a bit of...
00:55:02I like this bit as well.
00:55:03He had a bit of a spat with Saad at half-time.
00:55:05He's a young kid but he's got a bit of personality as well.
00:55:07And I don't mind that, Gabby.
00:55:08You know, you need a bit more than just to be a good finisher to be a Premier League player.
00:55:11And again, just the link-up play and how they attack.
00:55:14Look, there's Scott arriving into the position as well in the final third.
00:55:16Yeah, it didn't come off this time the two of them coming together.
00:55:20But on another occasion they come off.
00:55:21And what's Scott making up the ground here again?
00:55:23You know, Kruppi releasing the ball quickly.
00:55:25Now Wolves are buying in trouble.
00:55:26I think even Nielsen at the end of this makes the wrong choice to pass.
00:55:29But you see the two guys up in support.
00:55:31If a better pass there, they're in again.
00:55:33And what's Scott at the top of the picture?
00:55:34This is a brilliant...
00:55:35He gets a run on the defender.
00:55:36Look at that.
00:55:37He's got a yard on him.
00:55:38And he's not missing from there.
00:55:39Brilliant, brilliant ball from the new signing Ryan as well.
00:55:41They put it on the play for Alex Scott.
00:55:42But these two today were really, really impressive.
00:55:45Yeah, he's 19, as you mentioned.
00:55:46He's not 20 till June.
00:55:47So he's got the rest of the season, Kruppi, to move himself up this list.
00:55:51Look at the company he's keeping there and how impressive it is.
00:55:54Because this is most goals by a non-British teenager.
00:55:57And right at the top there, Lukaku on 14.
00:55:59You could well see him getting up towards those numbers.
00:56:01I think they only paid £12 million for him as well.
00:56:03So another fantastic find, isn't it?
00:56:05From Lorient.
00:56:06Every time, though, when a young player like him kind of comes on,
00:56:08Alex Scott playing well, Bournemouth fans just kind of cross their fingers
00:56:11as to how long they can hang on to their talents.
00:56:13Yeah, Areola's done an amazing job with them.
00:56:15I think it's how you kind of bet them into the first team in the Premier League
00:56:19where it's intense and there's been so many examples of young players
00:56:23at Bournemouth where they've developed under Areola and improved
00:56:27and no wonder other teams are looking at them.
00:56:29Yeah, and the manager himself, of course, his contract's up at the end of the season.
00:56:33They'll be equally as crossed those fingers that they can hang on to him.
00:56:36Yeah, I'm surprised there's not any news coming out of that.
00:56:38On that front, you'd love to tie him down. He's done a brilliant job.
00:56:40I mean, we've seen Glasner last week, you know,
00:56:42throwing the toys at the pram a little bit, but he's been quite, quite,
00:56:44quite professional getting on with the job.
00:56:46Not that long we lost his best player in Semenya as well.
00:56:48100 games today, you know, he's done such, so many positive things
00:56:51since he's been at the club.
00:56:52But if I was Bill Foley, the owner, I'd be trying to tie him down
00:56:55as much as any sort of top player. He's a brilliant manager.
00:56:58OK. Well, Brighton rarely lose at home, but overall in the Premier League
00:57:03have only won one of their last ten.
00:57:05Everton travelled to the south coast unbeaten in three in the league.
00:57:08Commentary comes from Mark Scott.
00:57:10It's been a harsh winter for Brighton, with only the bottom two
00:57:15taking fewer points than Albion over the last two months.
00:57:19But Fabian Herzler isn't too concerned, as he feels performances have been pretty good.
00:57:25Yasin Ayari starts with the Swedes, said to have been the subject of a transfer bid this week.
00:57:30De Kuyper and Ruta for the injured Gomez and bench for Sagli are the two changes.
00:57:35Jared Brantwaite makes his first start of the season for Everton after injury.
00:57:40Dewsbury Hall makes his first one since mid-December.
00:57:43And Michael Keane is back after a three-game ban.
00:57:47Well, a weekend in Brighton is usually good fun,
00:57:50and Everton have enjoyed their recent trips to the Amex,
00:57:53winning three of their last four games here.
00:57:57Risky pass, just about evaded Illiman and Jai,
00:58:01and now brought forwards by Kadiyoglu.
00:58:04Good sweeping pass from him to Fandiyari.
00:58:07Urge to shoot, lays it off instead for Kadiyoglu.
00:58:10His ball in is dangerous!
00:58:14First chance of the game is a Brighton and Hove Albion one,
00:58:16and Pascal Gross was loitering there,
00:58:20but just not quite able to squeeze it in.
00:58:24In from De Kuyper, Pickford stays.
00:58:26Turns out to be the right shout, here's Karou Matoma.
00:58:32Matoma's ball in, Pickford stays, Wilbeck's up there!
00:58:35Wilbeck again!
00:58:36Great improvisation, Pickford reacted well,
00:58:39and then there's a bit of reaction between him and Jan-Paul Van Hecker in the aftermath.
00:58:44Right, they're finding things a bit of a slog at the moment,
00:58:51but Fabian Herzler reckons recent performances have been good,
00:58:54although he understands the frustration about the results.
00:58:57Coughed up to Dewsbury Hall, who's given it away to Welbeck.
00:59:03Mitoma, Welbeck, Mitoma!
00:59:12Glorious link-up play nearly leading to the opening goal
00:59:15after an awful error from Kiernan Dewsbury Hall.
00:59:18To say that the first half has been a non-event would be quite the understatement.
00:59:30First half was very, very nil-nil,
00:59:32we're desperately hoping for better in the second period.
00:59:36That's nice from Harrison Armstrong,
00:59:39Barry lays off for Armstrong again,
00:59:41Baliba's given it, back to Barry,
00:59:43Dewsbury Hall opens up for the hit!
00:59:48Not far away from Kiernan Dewsbury Hall,
00:59:51first time that David Moyse's side have threatened Bart Verbruggen's goal.
00:59:57Having been non-existent as an attacking force in the first half,
01:00:01Everton has suddenly woken up.
01:00:04Here's Baliba, bit of a blind pass that,
01:00:08and Tierno Barry is onto it!
01:00:10It's Barry, it's across, and it's brilliantly saved!
01:00:13Bart Verbruggen to keep out Dewsbury Hall!
01:00:20There was an awful back pass which Barry seized upon,
01:00:23and he sorted out Dewsbury Hall with a very good opening.
01:00:27First time hit wasn't bad,
01:00:29and brilliance from Bart Verbruggen
01:00:32to keep him out with his feet.
01:00:36They have created a couple of moments of panic for Brighton since the break.
01:00:43O'Brien's throw.
01:00:46Hesitation, Barry's loitering,
01:00:48Van Hecker got there, Everton corner.
01:00:51Everton created absolutely nothing in the first half,
01:00:55but they have been the likelier side to find the opening goal since the break.
01:01:02Garner's corner as Everton continue to build pressure.
01:01:07And the pressure nearly paid off!
01:01:09Tarkovsky's header cleared off the line.
01:01:16Brighton under the pump.
01:01:18Tarkovsky now needs to get back and do the day job.
01:01:23It's Mitoma.
01:01:25Mitoma!
01:01:27Blocked by his own man.
01:01:29Well, all of a sudden,
01:01:31a game of football has broken out.
01:01:35Tarkovsky arriving at the far post,
01:01:37got good contact on it,
01:01:38and I think it's his own man, Jake O'Brien, who blocks it.
01:01:42Goal!
01:01:46Goal!
01:01:47Goal!
01:01:49Goal!
01:01:50Van Hecker, good ball.
01:01:51Ayari.
01:01:52Kosulis needs it.
01:01:53Gross!
01:01:55Goal!
01:01:59Tascao Gross with his first goal since returning to Brighton.
01:02:05And it may well be a match winner too.
01:02:10Ayari's ball in.
01:02:11An excellent dummy from Kosulis created the space for Pascal Gross.
01:02:17And he cashed in by hooking low beyond Pickford and in.
01:02:22And it's one that may well give Brighton all three points today.
01:02:32Urapunum.
01:02:36Pull from him, good from Ayari.
01:02:38Might get better for Brighton.
01:02:39Gross bundled over.
01:02:40Free kick.
01:02:44Gross just shoved over.
01:02:45I'm not sure what Garner's complaining about there.
01:02:49So it's going to be either Gross or Minta.
01:02:52And Jai is the doorstop in case they go low.
01:02:55Gross has gone high, dunk at the far stick.
01:02:58Veltman!
01:02:59Mitoma!
01:03:00That should do it for Brighton.
01:03:02The flag is up though.
01:03:04It was Joel Feltman who was the offside player according to the officials.
01:03:13Brighton want the whistle.
01:03:14Brighton want the whistle.
01:03:15The minimum of six added minutes are up.
01:03:16Paterson.
01:03:17That will probably be it.
01:03:18That will probably be it.
01:03:19Alcaraz.
01:03:20Garner.
01:03:21One last ball into the box for Everton.
01:03:22And it's come across!
01:03:23What a save!
01:03:24Beto!
01:03:251-1!
01:03:26Everton have snatched a point!
01:03:27For the second weekend running!
01:03:28Late heartache for Brighton!
01:03:29Absolute limbs in the away end!
01:03:30And delight for David Moyes!
01:03:31It was the last one.
01:03:32Alcaraz.
01:03:33Garner.
01:03:34One last ball into the box for Everton.
01:03:37And it's come across!
01:03:39What a save!
01:03:40Beto!
01:03:411-1!
01:03:42Everton have snatched a point!
01:03:44For the second weekend running!
01:03:47Late heartache for Brighton!
01:03:50Absolute limbs in the away end!
01:03:55And delight for David Moyes!
01:03:57It was the last move of the game.
01:04:01Garner swung it in.
01:04:04The initial touch from Dunk wasn't enough to get it fully away.
01:04:10And while Bart Verbruggen got down to make the save,
01:04:13Beto was on hand to rifle in the rebound.
01:04:18And on his birthday, he has gifted Everton a point on the road.
01:04:24How's the hamstring?
01:04:26Because that was quite the celebration from you at the end.
01:04:28Not perfect.
01:04:29I would have gone a bit further if I could have.
01:04:33But we can't enjoy it anymore as managers can we
01:04:36without getting booked for walking out of the area.
01:04:39So they're putting a damper in that as well.
01:04:41Is there any frustration with the game management and stoppage time?
01:04:44Or is it just one of those things that happens in football?
01:04:46I think we said, or I said before the game,
01:04:48we have to manage the game in the key moments better.
01:04:51And I think one moment costs us the game.
01:04:54And therefore, of course, it's something with game management as well.
01:04:58And it's tough but we have to overcome it.
01:05:00There are two options to be self-pity or to feel self-pity
01:05:03or to take ownership and responsibility to show great reactions.
01:05:07And that's what we try to do.
01:05:09That's our choice.
01:05:10And therefore, on the next weekend, we have the next opportunity.
01:05:13How pleased are you for Beto and what can this do for him?
01:05:16Well, he's a great lad to work with.
01:05:18He tries to make himself better every day.
01:05:20He really does.
01:05:21I'm pleased because he's probably been needing the confidence from the goal.
01:05:25He started to score all the goals for me last year round about this time.
01:05:28So let's hope he's about to go into season again.
01:05:31No, Beto birthday.
01:05:33Oh, nice.
01:05:34It was your line.
01:05:35I nicked it.
01:05:36But the second time in a week though, Everton have turned it round in the second half
01:05:40having looked poor in the first.
01:05:42Yeah, definitely a tale of two halves for Everton.
01:05:44I think Brighton will be kicking themselves.
01:05:46They could have had the game wrapped up at half-time with the chances.
01:05:49And Everton's touches in the first half was very, very limited.
01:05:52An XG of zero, which I'm not sure that's happened this season.
01:05:56But I think there was definitely a certain change with Everton's approach in the second half.
01:06:00They became a little bit more direct.
01:06:02I feel as though O'Brien was a target most of the game.
01:06:05They were more connected in midfield alongside Dewsbury Hall, Armstrong, Barry.
01:06:10Everything just seemed to be that little bit quicker.
01:06:12One and two touch.
01:06:13A bit more energy going forward.
01:06:15And Dewsbury Hall was probably the main player in terms of instigating that.
01:06:19Comes close there with the shot.
01:06:21Again, Dewsbury Hall initiating the press, recognising the square ball.
01:06:25Trying to make things happen for Everton.
01:06:27And I think Brighton really struggled when he was on the ball trying to create things.
01:06:31And same again, that long ball from Pickford.
01:06:34O'Brien against Minter.
01:06:35There's a definite height advantage causing mistakes from Belieber.
01:06:40Barry running the channels and making the right decisions.
01:06:43And this is a fantastic save for him for Bruggan.
01:06:45He really kept Brighton in the team and in the game.
01:06:48And we know how dangerous Everton are at set pieces.
01:06:51And this is when the pressure started to kind of come alive for Brighton.
01:06:55And here I think it's really poor defending from Brighton.
01:06:58But at the same time, Everton, they put bodies forward.
01:07:01And it's a great cross from Garner.
01:07:03Poor Clemens, but that's that man, O'Brien, on the edge of the box.
01:07:06Another great save for Bruggan.
01:07:08But that man, the birthday boy, Beto, scoring in the 97th minute.
01:07:13And that puts Everton eighth at the table.
01:07:15Yeah.
01:07:16And you can see there, clearly, the improvement in the second half.
01:07:18And David Moyes was thrilled, wasn't he, with that point.
01:07:20And he said he got booked for a celebration.
01:07:22And he also said, apparently, that if his knees were up to it,
01:07:24he would have done a knee slight.
01:07:26He's 63 in April.
01:07:27His enthusiasm and his ability to make change, you know,
01:07:30since he came in there, is fantastic.
01:07:32I think also he said I'd do it next week again if they score a 97th minute
01:07:35equaliser.
01:07:36You know, it's a tough, a tough game.
01:07:38And it shows how much, you know, he cares about football,
01:07:40how much it means to him.
01:07:41And I do want to take that out of the game as well.
01:07:43We've seen some celebrations of Mourinho.
01:07:45Had O'Brien, Kidd, all these different people celebrating on the touchline.
01:07:47It's part of the iconic of the Premier League.
01:07:49And Moyes are running down the touchline.
01:07:51I don't mind that next week either.
01:07:52OK, let's have a little look at the table.
01:07:54It makes good reading for Everton.
01:07:55But Arsenal at the top extend their lead to seven points.
01:07:58But Manchester City will cut the gap to four if they beat Tottenham tomorrow.
01:08:01Chelsea move into the top four.
01:08:03Liverpool a point further back in fifth.
01:08:05Manchester United can jump above them both with a win at home to Fulham.
01:08:08West Ham remain five points behind 17th place.
01:08:11Duttonham Forest and potential safety.
01:08:13Forest can move above Leeds and push them closer to the bottom three
01:08:17with victory over Crystal Palace tomorrow.
01:08:20Thank you so much for your company all day today, Shea and Steph.
01:08:23Well, after masterminding a great escape in Naples in midweek,
01:08:27Liam Resenia was at it again tonight with Chelsea eventually bursting West Ham's bubble.
01:08:33Goodnight.
01:08:35Music
01:09:02And there
