00:00Hey, Essence family, this is Yolanda Sanguini, entertainment editor at Essence.com.
00:08So the presidential debate is all anybody's talking about, and we decided let's take it to the streets of New York City to find out what you thought of it.
00:16All right, so Caleb and Brianna, what did you think of the debate?
00:21Well, it was pretty interesting seeing them both interrupting each other a lot, but I honestly think that Obama kind of came up on top.
00:30On this one, as opposed to the last one. So, I mean, both of them came prepared, but obviously there's one winner.
00:37You voted already. I already took my vote in. I'm pretty confident in my choice.
00:42What were your thoughts on the debate last night?
00:45In a nutshell, same talk. You know, I guess it just feels good to hear people acting like they care, so the two guys act like they care now.
00:53You know, Obama took them long enough, but, you know, funny how everybody keeps saying you're a liar.
01:00You know, and if it's cool, it's cool, so let's just call everybody for what they are. If you're lying, you know, we just call you out on it.
01:05You feel like some people were lying last night?
01:07Some people? I mean, both of them, yeah. I mean, but apparently it was great to hear somebody say, check the transcript. I love that line.
01:15I thought it was great. I thought Obama came really hard last night, and it was really good to see, you know.
01:19He was presidential, he was strong, and he made his point.
01:26Highs and lows?
01:28The high was obviously what everybody was talking about when he broke down Mitt's five-point plan and told him that he had a one-point plan.
01:37And then binders full of women? Would you be in that binder?
01:39That was the absolute worst. Yeah, he collects binders filled with women that we could leave work early or late and go home and cook for our children and then go back to work.
01:52So I said, oh, our hour's going to change if he becomes president.
01:54I thought that last night Obama really, really showed us why we voted for him at first in 2008.
02:01He came back after what appeared to be a real letdown, the first debate.
02:05I was kind of disappointed in the fact that Obama still hasn't really answered for me why he didn't pass immigration reform when he first took office,
02:16seeing that the Democrats were clearly in power, you know, in the House and the Senate, and he still hasn't given a good answer for that.
02:23That was a pretty low time for the debate, on his side at least.
02:26And for a high, I guess, when he finally, in the last few moments, mentioned the fact that Romney virtually wrote off about half of the American, you know, population
02:39when he said that 47% of Americans pretty much feel like they're entitled to certain government services and everything.
02:46What I remember most about the debate is the very first question, because it was a student, and I'm a student also.
02:53And he asked, how would you help, like, how would you ensure that we, as students, in two years when we're graduating, get jobs?
03:03And Obama directly answered that question.
03:06Mitt Romney beat around the question.
03:09He said, I promise you, I ensure you that I will help you get a job, you will get a job.
03:14But he wasn't telling us how, and I want to know how, before I elect somebody, I want to know, how are you going to ensure that I get a job?
