00:05This is Essence magazine's 24 Hours with Cory Booker on the road to 2020.
00:11We will raise teachers' salaries. We're going to forgive their debts.
00:29People who are going to professions like teaching should not have college debts.
00:33And the way we raise their salaries is by using the kind of tax incentives.
00:37Right now, we have people that work in hedge funds that pay less a percentage of their salaries and taxes than teachers who work hard in the classrooms.
00:44And so we're going to make sure we can fit that around.
00:47Forgiving college debt, school supplies, clothing. We're going to make sure that you can write all of that off, not a limited portion.
00:54And then finally, we've got to make sure that schools themselves get more resources.
00:58And we're going to do that by fully funding special needs education.
01:01Teachers right now all around this country are doing the right thing.
01:04We're organizing because power concedes nothing without a demand.
01:07What the South Carolina teachers are demanding, it's not just selfishness.
01:10It's, hey, lower the class sizes. Hire more teachers.
01:13This is about the children attracting people into the profession.

01:34All of us should feel a safe sense of urgency that nobody should have to drink that kind of water.
01:39I would want him to be more involved than the last president.
01:43How is that possible, not knowing that you guys are putting this chemical in the water in Denmark for 10 years
01:48and the community didn't know until maybe 2018?
01:53I feel like he has a good listening ear.
01:56He's really going to listen to smaller communities, more rural communities.
02:00I basically asked Cory Booker how, if he was elected president, how he would begin reparations for tribal lands,
02:07because there are a lot of treaties that have been broken, not just for my nation, the Navajo Nation, but across North America.

03:13south carolina because we've been spending the last will be 21 hours with presidential candidate
03:22clory booker he's here in the state going from county to county speaking with constituents and
03:29making campaign stuff so we're following along for the ride and just you know getting some one-on-one
03:36time with the candidates see what he's talking about so we can bring that information to you
03:40we went from grass to farm in like a year and a half and we have the best tasting produce
03:45in in the area that's amazing

04:00it's been an amazing 24 hours a long 24 hours but um still fun all in all it's been a good trip to
04:21south carolina so we have just wrapped 24 hours with cory booker this is the first time i'm going
04:29on a campaign trail with a candidate and it is exhausting but we had a great time we got to
04:36celebrate his birthday with him huge milestone he turned 50 so um that was also exciting it's just
04:42been really great meeting people and seeing how excited they are about not only cory booker but just
04:48the election in general because we are really going to change things next year i believe that
04:53so um it's been fun hanging out with you guys and i'm so glad that you're able to see um what i got
