00:00Never gonna get it never gonna get it never gonna get it
00:19Noni here for Essence News and when I tell you I have a treat for y'all like
00:25Like I'm talking about the most iconic female group out there in Vogue.
00:32Welcome ladies to Black Girl Magic headquarters.
00:35Thank you so much.
00:36I love that.
00:37And I have to say, like I hope you guys understand how important you guys are as a black woman
00:43growing up seeing like this perfect example of not only like beauty but also just grace
00:51and style.
00:52But then everybody can sing.
00:54Like when I tell you everybody sang with an A, absolutely amazing.
00:59So Terry, I gotta know like when you guys first started out, did you imagine 30 years later
01:06you guys would have this legacy?
01:08No.
01:09I mean it was something that we dreamed and hoped for but no, you know it's been really
01:16amazing and surreal and we're just very grateful and honored to still be doing what we love
01:21to do.
01:22Yeah.
01:23And then Rona, so you don't know this, I was completely containing my excitement but I
01:30have been a stand for you since MMC.
01:32Oh wow.
01:33I grew up on MMC.
01:34I grew up on MMC.
01:35I have to bring it up.
01:37I remember it was a natural blowout and you were there with like Justin Timberlake, Christina
01:42Gellar, but you always like your voice always cut through even back then.
01:50Everybody saw her on the Jamie Foxx show going toe to toe with Jamie Foxx.
01:54Like what was it like joining such an iconic group and like what was the reception like
01:58from Invogue fans?
01:59Well, it was totally unexpected, one.
02:03The other thing is I don't know what it was like as far as reception from the fans because
02:09it wasn't at a time when social media was popular.
02:12So I really think I got lucky in being able to kind of come in and find my way without
02:17so many opinions.
02:18Wow.
02:19And you guys have managed to still sustain a career from like actual CDs to now in the
02:24digital age.
02:25Like what has been the secret to that?
02:27Just continuing to do what we love to do and stay true to who we are as artists and anytime
02:34we came with new music, we never tried to reinvent ourselves.
02:38We always kept the signature in Vogue harmonies.
02:40We always started with our founding producers, Denzel Foster and Thomas McGillroy.
02:45And really, probably if anything, what you heard in the music was just the evolution of us.
02:53And really, it's just respecting each other, respecting the integrity of the brand and just
02:59continuing to carry that forward.
03:02So I'd love to get into these fashions, like Invogue has always been so high fashion.
03:09If you look back at some of your iconic fashion moments, like what are your favorites?
03:14I love the fashion from Rocket.
03:16Like that video?
03:17Oh, yeah.
03:18Go to YouTube, Rocket.
03:20They were killing it.
03:22But what are some of your favorite looks?
03:24I'm going to say for me, it was our performance on the American Music Awards when we did Don't
03:33Let Go.
03:34And it was the Richard Tyler dresses.
03:35Oh, wow.
03:36When we came from, from up under the stage.
03:39And we were rising above and the wind was blowing and we had, you know, the fans was blowing.
03:46One of my favorite moments is, I think it's the Free Your Mind wardrobe of us on that catwalk.
03:52Yes.
03:53And you guys were walking.
03:54There's such a timelessness about it.
03:55Like even when I see that video today, it could be something from today.
03:59100%.
04:00That's true about everything that you guys have put out across your 30 years.
04:05Okay, so we're going to get into this new release.
04:08The 30th anniversary of your first album, Born To Sing, will be re-released on Rhino Records with eight new remixes.
04:16So can you give us a little bit on what songs are going to be remixed?
04:20We're very excited.
04:21It's going to be all the, the, the hits.
04:24The singles.
04:25Hold On.
04:26Um, My Love and Never Gonna Get It.
04:29Um, giving him something he can feel.
04:32For your mind.
04:33For your mind.
04:34Yeah, all those hits.
04:35Thank you guys so much for coming through and good luck to you.
04:39Thanks for having us.
04:41Incredible.
