Trap Yoga Bae Britteny Floyd Mayo teaches how to do yoga while listening to trap music!

00:00What's up friends? I am so excited to be here with you at the Essence Wellness House.
00:15My name is Brittany, co-founder of Trap Yoga Bay, and we are about to turn your house into
00:22my trap house. Now, the name itself might have raised the eyebrows, so let me just back up
00:28and tell you who I am and what we're doing here. Trap Yoga is a vinyasa style yoga experience,
00:36but we do things a little bit differently. In a typical class with me, you will find trap
00:43music, yes, fun by my very own DJ, DJ True Star, who is the other founder of this brand, and
00:52there are other things that make this class so much fun and way different. We also twerk.
00:59Yes, you are going to do yoga, and we take twerk here because that makes self-care fun. But
01:07mostly verbally, or maybe not, what I love the absolute most about this experience is
01:14all ratchet affirmations. Ratchet affirmations are just my way of giving you girl's advice
01:20that sounds like your favorite rap words. In my class, we'll say things like I am a priority,
01:26in my beautiful ass life. Or we get real deep into it and we say stuff like my goal in life
01:32life is to be there for everyone else, but to never leave my motherfucking self behind. So,
01:39if you are ready to spend a couple of minutes with me learning how the things moving to trap
01:45yoga, let's get to. In this class, I want to just break it down for you. We've got a couple
01:51of minutes, so the first thing I want to do is teach you a few single performances and teach
01:57you how to do yoga in a way that feels fun, and culturally relevant, and spiritually,
02:02do yoga, and confident. So, each pose, it has three names. It has a Sanskrit name. That's
02:10the name that I learned when I studied yoga at the High Old School of BNASA in Russia-ish India.
02:16Just in case you were wondering, yes, I am Sri Lanka. Now, the second name that a pose has
02:23is American name. That's the name that you find in most yoga studios. But then the third name,
02:30that's the name that I was going to play. That is trap name. And it's going to be trap friendly.
02:37So, I'm ready. If you're ready, get on your mat, get a water bottle, shake the
02:44shit out. Let's go. The first thing we're going to do in this class is set our intentions. And you're
02:58going to do that by standing up and meeting me on the mat. However you find yourself. I like to just hold myself in a
03:07mountain pose. That's going to have my feet planted in front of me. My knees bit just a little bit,
03:13just to hold myself. You're going to take in that tummy. So, just like imagine that you were
03:19locking in those muscles, kind of clenching the abs, whether you see them or not. You got it.
03:25You're going to let your arms mount back to your side. Shoulders relax away from the ear. Unclench your jaw.
03:39Remember that the only thing that is not optional in this entire experience is the back bone. If your
03:47eyes are still open, close them. This is no longer for this too many about me. Stop.
03:55It's just a champion. Look at me.

04:15I'm too sure you're in yoga, in fun, in easy.
04:20I love this jazz.
04:25On the next inhale, you can open your eyes.
04:29And we are going to go through a few poses
04:32and then we'll put it together as a club.
04:37So the first thing you're gonna do,
04:38you're gonna look down at your feet.
04:39You're gonna bust them open, you're gonna spread it open
04:41just a little bit.
04:42Setting your feet about twice as wide as your hips.
04:45That's gonna be about three feet apart.
04:49And the next thing you're gonna do,
04:50is you're gonna inhale, swing the arms up and above
04:53until they meet at the top.
04:57And on exhale, we're gonna do Malasana,
05:00AKA Yogi Squat, AKA Bust Down Pose.
05:05That is the first one.
05:07So you're gonna do that by beginning to bend your knees
05:10deeply, deeply, deeply.
05:12You're gonna bring your hands down through your heart.
05:16You're gonna squat all the way,
05:17sitting in that butt down to the mat.
05:20Now maybe you get down here,
05:21you realize that you busted open just a little bit too wide.
05:24So you can just heel toe the feet in
05:27until you feel comfortable.
05:29Now you're gonna take the outside of those elbows,
05:32then you're gonna press them into your inner thighs.
05:35You're gonna use those prayer hands down to your heart to help you get things open.
05:40You're gonna sit in your heart forward.
05:41You're gonna sit in this pose.
05:43I love it, bust down.
05:45It's a hip open room.
05:46It's a lot of fun.
05:47And we're gonna sit here for three to five breaths.
05:51Now, I love to do yoga to music.
05:56And that adds so much ability to have movement,
05:59which is going to help you get out of your head.
06:02So when I do a pose like this, I like to just kind of break it up.
06:05You know, maybe belt around a little bit, put some shoulders in it.
06:10Maybe even break out of it.
06:12Get your little first dance break on.
06:14Yes, we're there.
06:16So one more breath.
06:19And on the inhale, we're just gonna return to our start position.
06:23So the next pose I want you to try with me is going to be an open leg forward fold.
06:31A.K.A. secure the backbones.
06:35I'm gonna show it to you twice because I want to show you how it looks from the front.
06:38And then I'm gonna give you a better angle.
06:40So with the feet spread out just like they were before,
06:43I actually like to bust it open just a little bit wider.
06:46What you do will work for you.
06:49You're gonna take your hands and you'll clasp them behind your back if you're going for a really deep stretch.
06:56But for the first time, let's just modify this.
06:59So you're gonna take your hands and put them on your hips.
07:02Forget the back.
07:03We're just gonna get something started.
07:05And you're gonna lean forward, bringing yourself all the way down to the mat.
07:11When you find yourself as far as your chest can go towards your thighs,
07:16that's when you're just gonna drop those hands.
07:18If this is too hard to reach the mat, that might be a good time to just open up just a little bit more.
07:26You can exhale, release your head down, or keep it up, whatever works for you.
07:33Your toes are pointed forward, you're shifting your weight between the two, heart forward.
07:38You're gonna feel a little bit of stretch in those, in the back of your legs, in those hamstrings, and that's a good thing.
07:45So I'm gonna come on up, I'm gonna turn around, and I'm gonna show it to you again, this time adding a little bit of an extra stretch to it.
07:54And always showing you where a little twerk is possible.
07:58So you're gonna take those hands, and you're gonna clasp them behind your back, and just bend forward like we did before.
08:05Leading with your heart, and sending your hands up over your head.
08:13Okay, so we're here, I wanna bust it open a little bit more, and maybe two to three breaths here.
08:22If you wanna add a little movement, it's good to maybe just do like a side squat, from side to side.
08:31Create a little extra space here.
08:34Never forgetting to breathe.
08:41On the next inhale, you can release those arms, send yourself back up to the top, and we're here.
08:49Back to our starting position, let's try another pose.
08:54So for this next pose, we're actually going to come down to the mat.
09:00And I like this pose a lot, not because of its complexity, but because what it stands for.
09:06This pose that we're about to do, it's very simple, it's called Hero Pose.
09:11And if there's ever a time in life that you are going through some deep shit, you may be hoping that someone's going to save you.
09:20And I like Hero Pose because it reminds me that in life, I have more options than just being a victim or the survivor of things that happen.
09:30This pose reminds me that I can be the hero of my whole story.
09:35So, to get into it, you saw that I came down to my knee, I'm just gonna turn to the side so you can get a better view.
09:42And you'll just sit back onto your heels.
09:46Now, if you don't have a lot of space between the top of your thighs or any of this, this might be slightly uncomfortable for you.
09:53So, this is why I would recommend grabbing a pillow or a blanket, setting on that, or anything that's just gonna kind of elevate that ass, you know, so that you can get into this position comfortably.
10:05This is also a time that I really like to practice my isolation as you turn my shoulder to.
10:12So, again, you know, as you get into your practice, it becomes fun, but this is a pose where I would like to have fun with it and work on my twerk moves.
10:23Do that information as you please.
10:25So, in that Hero Pose, and this is a really good alternative to Savasana.
10:32So, we're gonna just continue to breathe, maybe ground ourselves a little bit, remind ourselves, what are we doing here?
10:41Check any judgment that may have come up of the people standing in front of you, even of yourself.
10:49Is that the case for that?
10:52All right.
10:53So, now, you've got quite a few flows or a few asanas, which are poses, under your belt.
11:02I am going to show you my signature pose.
11:05This is the thing that I went viral for for the very first time.
11:10This is the thing that if you know nothing else, I need you to see how it goes.
11:15So, this next pose that we're about to do, it's more of an active pose, and they call it Chaturanga Dharasana.
11:22I call it twerking Chaturanga Dharasana, AKA, this shit works.
11:31So, you're gonna start off as though you were getting into a pushup position.
11:36So, that's your arms in one straight line.
11:40That means your wrists, your elbows, and your shoulders are stacked.
11:43You're gonna step back, maybe the left foot, and then the right foot.
11:48It looks like a pushup, but this is gonna be something a little bit harder, but more fun.
11:54When you come down for a Chaturanga, you're actually going to keep your elbows bent in as close as you can towards your side.
12:01So, then you maybe push yourself up.
12:04And when you exhale, you come down.
12:06Whoa.
12:07Inhale, press the mat away.
12:09Now, I'm about to show you the fun way.
12:11So, this is the sexy cousin of the track, Chaturanga Dharasana.
12:16It's called the twerking one.
12:17And you just wait a minute.
12:20Come on down.
12:22That is the fun stuff.
12:29Okay.
12:30So, we've done quite a few poses.
12:33And I just want to walk you through a quick flow so that we can put these things together.
12:38And I'll let you go on.

12:42Starting from the top.
12:45Starting at that mountain move.
