Kiyah Wright talks about hair care and great products for your hair.
Transcript
00:00Hey everybody, I am celebrity stylist Kyra Wright and I am here to talk to you about quarantine
00:10hairstyles. There's so much going on right now and I know women are scattered all over the place
00:16just trying to figure out what do I do? There's so much going on. You can't go to the hair salon,
00:21you can't get your hair done, you can't get that loving care to your scalp, your hair,
00:26the whole thing. So I want to give you some tips. All right. And I want to talk to the stylist
00:30out there too, because we all need encouragement and inspiration to be inspired to do your hair
00:36and help you become and look your best self. So I'm here today with Royal Oil and the Gold Series
00:45line. And I just want to give you some hair tips because we're all just kind of panicking right
00:50now. Like, what do you do? I opened up my salon recently and the clients were just kind of
00:57flooding in and everybody's thing was, you know, first of all, everybody's still a little bit scared
01:02to go to the salon. I want to just kind of back up a little bit. And over these last few weeks,
01:06including myself, the whole thing was, what do I do about these grays? What do I do about my webcam
01:12calls? What do I do? What do I do? And I just came up with some really cool beauty solutions. First
01:18steps first. I think it's all about scalp care right now, you know, because think about it. Most
01:25of the time when women are getting their hair done, if they're not going to the salon, they're really
01:29not caring for their scalp. So I'm talking to two sets of people. If you are going to the salon and
01:34getting your hair done every single week, I'm sure this was like outrageous for you. Like, what do I do
01:39with my hair? And then you have the people who do their hair at home and they're really good with their
01:45natural texture and that sort of thing. And you're just looking for a regimen and you're looking for
01:49some solutions. I want to start with scalp care first. Scalp care is so, so, so important because
01:57if you want to have healthy hair, it really does start with a healthy scalp. One of the lines that I
02:03recommend is the Royal Oils line. Now the Royal Oils line, let's say, let's start with, if you have dry,
02:10itchy scalp, the line is really initially for women with women, men, kids, whoever with dry,
02:17itchy scalp. All right. So I want to just show you about that line. This is what the line looks like.
02:24Now, a lot of you guys may have known it as you see the whole head and shoulders and you may have
02:29thought that this line was not for you, but let me just tell you as a salon hairstylist, one thing
02:35about it is people are always looking for a regimen. Let's say if they come and get their hair done
02:40every week, or if they do not, they're looking for products that they can use at home that are easy
02:45and accessible. And you can just have a whole regimen. For me, it's about a system, a regimen.
02:52And I start with a good shampoo, a conditioner, and then we can move into other products like
02:59co-washing. They also have this product. This is the co-wash product. A lot of you girls out there
03:05are natural. You don't want to shampoo your hair every single day. So the co-wash is a really good
03:11product for you guys. You don't want to strip it. You don't want to do any of those things with your
03:15hair. And you don't want to put too many like alcoholic products. The co-wash is a great, great,
03:21great product for that. And we also have this product, which is the scalp elixir. Another fave too,
03:27if you're wearing braids, you don't want to shampoo your hair every single day or every week.
03:33Because I know when you get braids, we typically don't shampoo our hair for like two, three, four
03:38weeks. And the scalp elixir is a really good product that you can squirt in that scalp. And it
03:44really does soothe that itchiness. It really does help you feel like you've got your hair shampoo,
03:50but it just gives you a little bit of relief to that itchiness. Like I said, it's all about a
03:55regimen. So you can go with the Royal Oils line for your shampoo, your conditioner. You can move into
04:01your scalp elixir. And they even have like a scalp cream for those who just need a little bit of
04:05moisture in that scalp, but not oiliness. They really did an amazing job with that line because
04:10as a hairstylist, I'm a salon hairstylist first. And when you are a hair salon stylist, you're really
04:17supposed to be all about hair care. And they did a really good job at just having lots of
04:24moisturization and hydration in that product so that you get good slippage when you shampoo your hair,
04:30especially when you're doing your hair at home. You want shampoos and conditions that really do
04:35give you that really good slippage when you're shampooing your hair, just preventing any tangling,
04:40matting, or anything like that. A really good line to start with. I will say that. And then if you want
04:46to style your hair, a lot of you guys are asking me about styling. Like people are DMing me all the time.
04:51They ask me like, what's styling product for this? What's styling product for that? I did something
04:55recently on my page where I know you guys see me wear wigs a lot. I love my wigs. This is a great
05:01protective style, but then I do some other styles where you, where I use my natural hair. I'll do my
05:07clipping, a little texture, kinky pieces. I'll pop them into my natural hair because of course my hair
05:13is natural under here. I'll do the braid up, how we all do our braid ups. And then I'll clip in some pieces
05:19just for that added volume. And I will go over to my gold series line. And I found that this product
05:26right here, you're going to find that it's a really good product to do your double strand twist with.
05:31It really does give that hair that, that lock that you want. And it hydrates the hair at the same time.
05:37For me, when I'm looking at, when I'm trying out products, I'm all about how does it make that hair
05:43feel? You know, I'm a salon hairstylist first, as I've told you. So I want the hair to feel hydrated
05:50right at the foundation. And that's when you shampoo it and you condition it. And then we move over to
05:55the styling products. Again, the curl pudding is really good. I love it. Great little new packaging
06:01too, with the little purple people with the faces on here. I love that. It locks in that curl,
06:05double strand twist, let it dry overnight under the dryer, however you like. And then you just have that
06:11definition, shininess, a whole thing that you want. They also have a good braid cream in that line
06:17too. A lot of you guys are wearing braids right now. So I can't really do braids. My edges are a
06:22little thin, but this braid cream, I recommend it to my braiders. I have an assistant. She braids.
06:30This is like, I can't live without this product right here. Again, I'm all about slippage. I'm all about
06:36hydration. And I'm all about just making that hair feel soft, especially if you're not going to that
06:43salon often. And when you get braids, you're really not caring for your hair the way you would if you
06:48were going in every single week to get your hair done. So you want to just make sure that you are
06:53using a braid cream right at the foundation. Because again, I'm all about the foundation,
06:58a good shampoo, a good conditioner. That's how you get the hair to a nice start. Then you can move
07:04into your styling and products and things like that. So for you braiders, make sure you get this.
07:11Hydrate that hair before you start those braids. Okay. That's rule number one. Of course,
07:17they also have a really good edge control. Edge control has been the hero over the last three
07:23years. We know we like those baby hairs. So we have a really good edge control in that line as well.
07:29I want to just give you hair tips, hair tips, hair tips, hair tips, because this quarantine,
07:35it has really taken everybody back. Okay. Like we are doing our own hair at home,
07:43myself included, because my assistant typically does my hair, but I have to do my own hair these
07:48days. All right. So I totally get it. And as I said before, I'm back in the salon now,
07:54and I use these products in the salon as well. I'm always saying like, can we make this for
07:59professionals for stylists? Because it's so great. It really does rectify like itchy dry scalp.
08:05It has great products in there, especially this scalp elixir right here. Check this one out. This
08:10is that instant soothe for that itchiness. I even break it up when I'm in the salon. And I even tell
08:16a lot of women at home, get you a steamer. A steamer is like the best thing ever. It makes the hair
08:22feel soft, hydrated, and that product gets right into those cuticles, helping that hair just be
08:29tangle free and just easy, easy to maintain. So, and you can make your own cocktail. They have a
08:36really good hair mask by the Royal Oils line as well. I do the hair mask and I put the scalp elixir
08:43in my scalp and I put the hair mask on my ends and voila, I've made my own cocktail. All right. So,
08:50you know, I just want to give you some tips for your scalp and Pantene is great for hair
08:57maintenance and styling. So there you have it. You got two very affordable lines that you can use
09:04that are going to help you get through quarantine, whether it's where it was here and it's kind of
09:10going away. And if it even comes back, here's some great hair tips that can help you stay cute
09:16and maintain your style. So the next thing I want to talk to you guys about, this is really
09:22geared towards the stylist. This was a really big deal for me. Something that I learned during this
09:27whole quarantine, Black Lives Matter, just kind of with the icing on the cake. It gave us a lot of
09:33time off, a lot of time off to reflect, to really look at our careers, look at our whole life, this whole
09:40like hairstyling thing. As you guys know, I posted on my social media. It was really hard for me the day
09:46that I closed my salon. And I think it just didn't hit me. I was packing up my things. And as I walked
09:51out that door to put everything in my car, I was like, oh, I don't know if I'm ever going to be,
09:57I don't know when I'm going to be able to do hair again. Like that for me was like Jordan not being
10:02able to play basketball. I mean, I'm really serious. Like, and it really made me reflect on
10:07my finances and how I just wasn't really prepared. Thank God I had already started an online business.
10:15One thing that I want to say to stylists out there, it's really important that you guys understand
10:20products, product knowledge, and product sales. Because if you have a salon, a suite,
10:26you definitely need to understand that 40% of your business is products and product sales.
10:33So I really just want to encourage you to get into that online space. Understand that,
10:40you know, if you're not able to do hair anymore, what are you going to do? You know,
10:46because those were the things that we really had to reflect on. And just really understanding
10:50financial literacy, understanding, like, it's so important to have your business in order
10:55so that I didn't even realize I had already had my business in order. I was able to get EBD.
11:02I was approved for PPP. I was approved for all of these great opportunities because I had my business
11:08and my paperwork in order. So a lot of stylists don't pay taxes. A lot of stylists don't understand
11:14like all of those little details really do matter for your financial freedom for later. Because,
11:21you know, right now, you know, for the last three months, we're just getting, we're just able to go
11:27back to the salon right now. And in some cities, like I just started last week, some cities or makeup
11:33people, you know, estheticians, they are still, they just, I think they might've started this past
11:39week. And it really just, you know, took me back. So it really helped me understand how my finances
11:48were so important to this situation. What if this thing comes back? You know, we really do have to set
11:54up our online space and find our niche and be able to communicate with those clients that you've
12:01accumulated over the years. Do you have a data bank? Make sure that your data bank, you're keeping
12:06in touch with your clients, whether they came to you one time or they come to you every single week,
12:11you should be able to reach those clients as often as possible by way of their emails, their cell phone
12:17numbers, and stay in touch with them. Give them hair tips, keep them engaged with you because they
12:23value your opinion about their hair. So I want to keep it short, but I definitely want to just let you
12:29guys know, like financial literacy is key. Keeping your business in order, keeping your taxes in
12:35order is really important. I know a lot of us want to save all that money on taxes, but you don't think
12:40about when you want to buy a home or when you need to get a loan. Like right now, the government gave
12:46away a lot of money. And if you guys weren't prepared with your business, you weren't able to get in that
12:53game. So I just want to remind you to stay on top of your business, hairstylist, and just get yourself
12:59ready because we don't know what's to come. This is the new normal. So we have to just be prepared
13:05and be ready. So stylists and everyday women, I hope that was helpful. And thank you guys for
13:13watching and joining me, Kaya Wright. Be sure to follow me on social media, KayaWright1. I have tons
13:18of tips and you can DM me with anything you might know.
