00:00Just people everywhere. Why is it so full? So crowded.
00:04I'm not the only one. Another queue.
00:07And now look at this.
00:09Portugal's capital city Lisbon is beautiful and often crowded.
00:17But hey, maybe it's all worth it. Find out what you can do in a day in Lisbon
00:22and watch me try to avoid the crowds. Vamos!
00:26Lisbon is located on the Atlantic coast and spread across seven hills.
00:33I start my day in Alfama, the oldest inhabited district.
00:38The narrow streets were built long before cars existed.
00:43That's obvious. Many of the streets are stairways.
00:49And even with a map, it's easy to get lost.
00:52It's only a 10-minute walk from here to Castello de Sao Jorge, located on the highest hill in the city.
00:59A ticket costs 15 euros and there's a free audio guide for your phone.
01:04It's definitely better to come early. When I got here, there wasn't anyone queuing.
01:09And now look at this.
01:14These old yellow trams are the image of Lisbon I had in my head.
01:18So of course I want to ride one.
01:22Lots of people had the same idea.
01:25Tram 28 runs seven kilometers across the old town.
01:29The tram line is more than 100 years old.
01:32You see it on postcards, in movies and on Instagram.
01:41You can easily explore downtown Lisbon on foot.
01:47The huge Praça do Comercio Square is a good starting point.
01:52And since Lisbon is built on hills, there are other unique ways to get around.
01:57This lift opened in 1902 and it connects downtown Lisbon with the upper part of the city.
02:03It's a tourist attraction, but it's also part of the public transport system.
02:10But be prepared to wait in a line here too.
02:19It's not even moving. I'm tired of this.
02:22Instead, I leave the old town to have lunch at Itasca.
02:32Itasca is a traditional restaurant in Portugal that serves home-cooked food.
02:37And to get to a real one that's not a tourist trap, go to the suburbs and don't stay in the safe.
02:43My main course is a soda, a bread stew with garlic, coriander, olive oil and egg.
02:52I also ordered salt-caught croquettes and Portuguese cream cheese.
03:00I'm really impressed with this food.
03:02It's a lot of dishes I'd never tried before.
03:05And it's lots of different flavors, really great.
03:08It's so different from just eating fast food or typical tourist food in the center.
03:13So, really good experience.
03:17Now I want to check out the LX Factory, one of the coolest places in town.
03:23Located on the side of an old textile factory, you'll find street art shops, studios
03:28and what might be the most stylish restrooms in Lisbon.
03:32The factory's former printing shop is now home to a particularly spectacular bookstore.
03:41On the first floor I discover a miniature puppet theater.
03:45That's a really cool alternative if you can't get on the tram 28.
04:01I mean, that's a way to have a ride in just two minutes.
04:05The Mostero du Geronimus is a 16th century monastery built with money from overseas trade.
04:12Next door you should definitely stop at the Pastéis de Belém pastry shop.
04:21The puff pastry tarts with custard cream have been baked here since 1837,
04:27following a secret recipe of the monks.
04:31I end my day where I started it, in Alfama.
04:38In the evening, the neighborhood is filled with Lisbon's most famous music, Fado.
04:45The lights are dimmed and there's no talking allowed.
04:49That's one of the rules of Fado.
04:52My conclusion, Lisbon is crowded but I still discovered a lot of authentic places, so yes, the hype is justified.
05:21The second floor is at an altitude of the bunch.
05:24Finally, the fast food storage is more important.
05:26The most important is the personal property.
05:28The four.
05:29The only convenient is the most important.
05:31The music is a lot of traditionalsted people.
05:33The music is a lot of traditional toys.
05:35The two.
05:36The most important, the most important things.
05:40The most important is to you how you can bring the food and try to drive the food and drive the food.
