00:00The top and most powerful positions in both chambers of the legislature is fair game at any time.
00:06Hence, those wielding power and who preside over the most powerful checks and balance to the President or even Supreme Court
00:13are always aware that a power grab at any time to replace them is par for the course at the workplace.
00:19As our Luisa Erisbe tells us more.
00:21Social media has been a boss of late with allegations of a looming change in Senate leadership.
00:30Questions such as first female Senate President have gone viral across various platforms.
00:37However, the Senate was quick to shoot down these rumors.
00:40Senate President Vicente Soto III himself stated that this is likely just noise generated on social media.
00:51S.P. Soto believes the Senate majority remains solid, noting that he has not heard any grievances or dissatisfaction regarding his leadership.
01:09Soto speculated that if there is any discontent, it might stem from his strict governance or recent changes in committee chairmanships.
01:36One such change includes the Committee on Foreign Relations, wherein Sen. Erwin Tulfo is slated to replace Sen. Aimee Marcos.
01:45However, Sen. Erwin Tulfo sees no reason to change the current Senate leadership.
01:50For Tulfo, politics should take a backseat to addressing the pressing problems of the nation.
01:56This sentiment is shared by Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano.
02:17While it is no secret that the minority aspires to become the majority, Cayetano admits they currently lack the 13 votes physically present to ask the sitting Senate President.
02:28We're in the minority. So, of course, we want to be in the majority. That was never a secret.
02:35Sila, they were in the minority. They got it from the majority. So, it's really, do you get 13 people of like minds?
02:42But as of today, wala pa yung 13 na yan or yung 13 na yung present.
02:46Meanwhile, Sen. Pan Filo Lacson likened the issue to a rebellion, describing it as a persistent reality in politics.
02:54Sabi ko nga, like a rebellion, it's a continuing crack. It's a statue memorial. Kanyang naman talaga dito.
03:00Merong numero, 13 and more.
03:07For their part, Sen. Loren Legarda and Aimee Marcos denied being approached by anyone regarding a leadership change.
03:15Sen. J.V. Ejercito also noted that he might be one of the last to be approached given its role in the current leadership as deputy majority leader.
03:23Meanwhile, if there will be indeed a new phase in the Senate, it is the newly appointed Senate Secretary.
03:29Replacing Attorney Renato Bantug, Mark Leandro Dong Mendoza, the former Secretary General of the House of Representatives, has been officially designated as the new Senate Secretary.
03:40Luisa Erispe from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
