The two actors were pals before Sly became a movie superstar.

00:00Do you keep in touch with Sylvester after that?
00:03You know, I did for a while.
00:06When he became a movie star, I was cut right out.
00:09Henry Winkler opened up about his friendship with Sylvester Stallone,
00:13saying he actually played a crucial role in helping Stallone make Rocky.
00:17Winkler touched on their friendship while on The Tonight Show
00:19and explained to Jimmy Fallon that he and Stallone,
00:22who starred together in the 1974 drama The Lords of Flatbush,
00:26were pals before the Rambo star made it big.
00:28Winkler then shared an amazing story, saying while he was starring on Happy Days,
00:32Stallone asked him to pass along a script he wrote to ABC.
00:36They liked the script.
00:38And I sold them the script and I called Sly and I said,
00:42we sold the script.
00:43The actor recalled that ABC soon called back and said,
00:46we want to change the writer.
00:47I then called Sly.
00:49I said, Sly, we sold the script.
00:51They want a new writer.
00:52He said, Henry, don't let them do this to me.
00:55Winkler said he went back to ABC and said,
00:57I know this is strange.
00:58Here's the money.
00:59I need the script back.
01:00I got the script back.
01:02I gave it to Sly.
01:04I said, you know, Sly, it's all yours.
01:06It's back in your hands.
01:08And a year later, it turned out to be Rocky.
01:12The boxing classic was released December 3rd, 1976
01:15and spawned a billion dollar ongoing franchise.
01:18And the rest, as they say, is history.
