00:17Today I'm going to be using all my skills to find the perfect place for Dimpy who's house hunting with her mum Diwali and we get ready to party.

00:32As I go the extra mile to over deliver. Three bedrooms. Really? I did not expect that at all.
00:41I visit a luxury villa which is right on the money.
00:44With a few like that it's kind of priceless.
00:47You can't buy that? No you can't.
00:49But at the end of the day do I find my house hunters their perfect place in the sun?
00:54I really feel that I'm getting really closer to my actual dream.
01:01Dimpy has always dreamt of her times in Lanzarote and the beaches, the nightlife and the all year round sun are calling her back.
01:08Now her two children, Jameen and Natisha are grown up, it's time for her to find a holiday home of her own with the guidance of her mum Diwali.
01:16Dimpy who lives in Hertfordshire and works in the travel industry has a budget of £230,000 to buy a holiday home she hopes one day will become a permanent one.
01:28So the holiday home it will be like somewhere to get away from all the stress that's in the UK and pressure at work.
01:36So really to unwind as well and that way I can come as many times as I want.
01:43She can't think of anyone better to help on the house hunt than her mum Diwali.
01:48Dimpy gets carried away very quickly and I'm here with her to ground her.
01:55Lanzarote which takes around 4 hours to fly to from the UK is the northernmost and third largest of the Canary Islands with a population of about 150,000 including around 5,000 Brits who are joined by more than 3 million holiday makers each year.
02:17Attracted by the island's more than 100 miles of stunning coastline, great year round climate and all the things Lanzarote has to offer away from the sun, sea and sand.
02:29While some Spanish territories have seen a fall in the property market in the past 12 months, here in Lanzarote the market is on the up by up to 25% in places like Puerto del Carmen.
02:40A combination of low stock and high demand means if you're selling, you're in a good position. If you're buying, you may have to dig deep.
02:49Before we get started, I'm meeting up with my house hunters on Islotti, Defermina and Arisife to find out what Dimpy's looking for in terms of property and how her mum Diwali is going to help her.

03:06Yes, so excited. What do you think of this view?
03:10So beautiful, amazing.
03:12You came here once, 20 years ago, and you've decided to get a property here. That place must have really grabbed you.
03:18Yes, it did, because, you know, it's all year round sunshine.
03:22I mean, Lanzarote is just a great option, you know, four and a half hours from the UK, as you say, the all year round sun.
03:28And you've not been before, Diwali? No, it's my first time. What are your first impressions?
03:32Fantastic. Yes, I love the place.
03:35Diwali, what's your role going to be then on this set?
03:38Yeah, I'm going to help her out and give her some ideas to see if it is suitable for Dimpy.
03:46So between us, we're going to try and find you this property in Lanzarote. Tell me what you're after.
03:51Give me your wish list.
03:52OK, so I'm looking for one, two bedrooms, but if it's the ideal property, I don't mind one.
03:58OK.
03:59But it has to be modern. A little bit of character is OK.
04:03Swimming pool is important, either a communal pool or a beach nearby.
04:08Right.
04:09And I need a car park because I want to drive around the island as well, so that's important to me.
04:15So you're going to use this as a holiday home initially?
04:17Initially I am, until my children finish university, and then they've only got a few more years left,
04:23and then I want to make it a permanent home.
04:26That's exciting, isn't it?
04:28That always gives me an extra bit of motivation on the search if I know it's somewhere that you might want to live full-time one day.
04:34What about areas? What kind of areas would you like to look in?
04:36So I like quiet, but I like lively as well, a bit of both.
04:40So I really like Puerto del Carmen, but I'm open to other areas because, you know, I'm not really familiar with the island.
04:47Ah, OK. Puerto del Carmen is great.
04:50I could also show you a little bit of Playa Blanca, another resort I really like.
04:54And since you're open, I'll show you both just a bit of the island.

04:59Yeah, exciting.
05:00So you've got the dream all sorted. Let's talk budget. How much have you got to spend on this?
05:06So I got to spend £230,000.
05:09OK.
05:10So that's my budget.
05:11Any wiggle room?
05:13Um, there is. So the maximum I can go is £250,000. So that's an extra £20,000 wiggle room.
05:21Right, £250,000 I think is a good budget. You ready, girls?

05:28I reckon this is going to be a cracking house hunt. Dimpy seems pretty flexible in terms of where she wants her property,
05:35which will definitely help along with that maximum budget of £250,000.
05:41And it'll be great to show her and Lanzarote newbie de Valle some of the island as well.
05:47Before we visit our first property, we're heading down the coast to the popular tourist town of Puerto del Carmen,
05:54where Dimpy came on holiday all those years ago.
05:59So, of course, Dimpy, I had to bring you back to Puerto del Carmen. I mean, does any of this look familiar to you?
06:06It does actually. I remember this trip and I remember the bars, the restaurants.
06:10What do you think of it? You've not been here before.
06:12I'd say it's very lively. Yes, plenty of stuff, plenty of restaurants.
06:17When you think of having your holiday home here, Dimpy, is this what you kind of imagine?
06:21Yes, I do, because, like, during the day I can be, like, just enjoying it in the beach there,
06:26and then in the evenings I can come out and, you know, have my cocktail, do some karaoke.
06:32What's the number you always bail out when you do karaoke?
06:35Girls just want to have fun!

06:39I'm telling you, this is the place to come for you.
06:41In the evenings it is just teaming with people and it's just good vibes.
06:45So I'm glad we started the search here.
06:48And my first property is pretty close. It's about a five-minute walk up the road.

06:58Puerto del Carmen is a very cosmopolitan place.
07:01The population here is about 50% local and 50% from outside Spain,
07:07including a large British community.
07:10Demand for properties here is high, as are prices,
07:14so I'm very pleased to be kicking off this house hunt with a one-bedroom place
07:18in a great location which comes in quite a bit below budget.
07:23So we're about a five-minute walk from the beach in that lovely strip.
07:28What do you think of this location?
07:30I think the location is good, like the sea and the beaches nearby,
07:35but my only concern is the busy road.
07:38Ah, okay, well I don't think you'll have to be too concerned about that
07:41because the property I've chosen for you is in a bit.
07:44You see that red umbrella?
07:45Oh, yes.
07:46It's the one next to that.

07:48So I've got a one-bedroom first-floor apartment with a nice outside space.
07:52You've got a nice pool inside, nice grounds.
07:54You can see it's all white, freshly painted.
07:57I think it looks nice and clean and modern as well

08:03So, yeah, I'm excited to go in, actually.

08:07Being close to the beach comes at a premium,
08:09so for this one-bedroom property it's on the market
08:12for just over £182,500.

08:19so, as you can see, plenty of parking spaces

11:05would work for Dimpy.
11:07And given her and Diwali's reaction to it,

12:37after a quick stop-off at Flamingo Beach,
12:39which, in my opinion, is one of the best stretches of sand
12:42on the whole island.
12:44So, I wanted to bring you to one of my favourite spots
12:47on the island.
12:48This is Flamingo Beach.
12:49Beautiful golden sands, blue seas.
12:52What do you think, you two?
12:53I like the rocks, the sea.
12:55Oh, my God, I want to try that.
12:57What is that paddle boat?
12:58Yes, you can do paddle boarding here.
13:01You can take a kayak out for about 43 quid.
13:04You can get a good hour, stand there,
13:06watch the world go by.
13:08I mean, is that the kind of things you like to do?
13:10Yeah, I'm always up for a challenge.

13:13This is another really nice area.
13:15You can see all those restaurants, bars,
13:17supermarket here.
13:19So, you know, you've got everything within touching distance.
13:21And my next property is about 20, 25-minute walk from here.

13:31you don't really need any cars home.

13:48This two-bedroom bungalow that comes with three pools
13:51and this fabulous outside space.
13:59Today, I'm in the Canary Islands,
14:01helping Dimpy, who works in the travel industry,
14:03find her dream holiday home on Lanzarote.
14:05And I've got the help of mum Diwali.
14:08Diwali's helping me to keep her daughter open-minded
14:11about this apartment,
14:12which has a great location and views.
14:14But Dimpy, who has a budget of £230,000
14:18with an additional £20,000 wiggle room,
14:20was tempted to rule it out
14:22due to its lack of a second bedroom.
14:24And I'm going to remedy that with property two
14:28in the town of Playa Blanca in the far south of the island,
14:31which has a good mix of full-time residents and holiday homeowners.
14:36Prices are on the rise here,
14:38so to get Dimpy that extra bedroom she's after,
14:40I've had to use a fair bit of her wiggle room.

21:23as you can see here on the marina,
21:25so I think, especially for my age as well,

22:22So I've found exactly that.
22:26It's in an area called Castillo del Aguila,
22:29about five minutes' drive from the centre of Playa Blanca,
22:32where we saw our last place.
22:34Like the rest of the island,
22:35demand for properties here is a lot bigger than supply,
22:38which has boosted prices recently.
22:41So, to find somewhere with a pool and three bedrooms,
22:44I've had to use a fair chunk of Dimpy's wiggle room.
22:48I just wanted to go off to a good start with this one, Dimpy.

26:19which is on the market for just under £243,500.
26:24Dimpy seems impressed by the space here,
26:27so I'm looking forward to hearing what they think.
26:30You had to look round all the bedrooms and everything.

26:34Yes, we did.
26:35So the positive is it's a lot of space.
26:38So I can envisage like moving things around.
26:42So with a small dining table and just having like a corner settee
26:46and moving the TV.

26:48But the negative that I'm seeing is that it's quite outdated.
26:53So it needs to be like, you know, more decorated, you know, up to date.
26:58Also, I feel that it's quite isolated.

27:07Like it's quiet right here?
27:08Yeah, it's quiet and there's nothing like quite nearby.
27:11Don't forget the action is within a five minute drive

27:17you might want to come back for a little bit of quiet.

27:25It is because inside it's big, there's three bedrooms.

27:39I've got a bit of a dilemma because I want to give you a property
27:42that is big enough for the whole family.

27:46And I don't want you to feel too isolated.

28:12About a ten minute drive inland from Puerto del Carmen where we started off this search.
28:17Being further from the coast makes it quite an affordable area,
28:21so I've managed to find Dimpy a very spacious townhouse that comes in below budget.
28:26This is a bit of a different area from some of the other properties I've shown you.
28:30I would say this is quite lived in.
28:32You know, you've got a school next door, there's football stadium,
28:35shops, bakery and things just up the road.
28:38First impressions for you, Mum, what do you think?
28:41No, it's not my type.
28:44Because all I can see is just a mountain there,
28:47and all surrounded with all the buildings here.
28:51Maybe feels a bit built up for you?
28:54OK, first impressions are important, so it's good to get that opinion from you.
28:58You're not isolated, but it feels like overpopulated.
29:02I know what you're saying, this is built up.
29:04You know, this is a community.
29:05There are lots of, you know, everyday people living here.
29:08Let me tell you about the property itself.

29:37Oh, for the first time it's a thumbs down from the valley, but once they've seen the inside, maybe they'll change their minds.
29:49This townhouse has a small terrace to one side and another larger one at the front, which has sea views.
29:56Inside there's a spacious living room, a dining room and a very colourful kitchen.
30:02There's also the main bedroom, along with two slightly smaller bedrooms, plus not one, but two shower rooms.
30:15So this feels a bit too homey.
30:17It doesn't feel like a holiday home.
30:18I know I don't move permanently, but I'm just not getting that feeling.

30:26Yes.
30:27But the thing is, once I've come in, I just don't feel it.
30:35This looks like a disco.
30:36It doesn't even look like a kitchen.

31:12didn't exactly make a great first impression on Dimpe and Diwali.
31:16But as it's the biggest place I've shown them inside and out,
31:20I'm wondering how they feel now they've had a good look round.
31:24Oh, not the smiley faces I'm used to seeing.

31:30I've got some bad news.
31:31I'm, like, really not feeling it and it's not in my heart.
31:34It's really big, the maintenance of it, and I don't even enjoy cleaning.
31:39It would be too much for me.
31:41And I want a holiday home, but I want it a homely feeling as well.
31:45So I need that balance.

31:49OK, I don't think it's right for her.
31:53She'll have to pay extra from her pocket to get the cleaner in as well.

32:46find the perfect holiday home in Lanzarote with the help of her mum Di Valle.
32:51Now, this has been a tricky search.
32:52We've had our ups and downs, but I've got one last chance to impress her.
32:57Dimpy, who has a maximum budget of £250,000 and Di Valle have only really liked one place
33:04I've shown them so far.
33:06This bungalow on a great development, but I'm hoping my fifth and final place, another bungalow
33:12fairly close by, will give it a run for its money.
33:18But before we go there, I've come to the town of Puerto Calero to check out this stylish
33:24four-bedroom, four-bathroom villa, which is all about lightness and brightness and has
33:29been built to make the most of life in the Canadian sun.

34:59Well, with a view like that, it's kind of priceless.

35:29And on the way to it, I thought we'd make a quick stop off in my favourite part of town.

35:44And I really like that there's shops here, there's bars, there's restaurants, there's a bit of everything.
35:50And it's like the long stretch as well.

36:35heart of things here in Playa Blanca, in an area where there are more holiday homes
36:39than permanent ones.
36:41Despite that great and lively location, prices aren't too high here.
36:45And I'm finishing off with somewhere that comes in quite a bit below Dimpy's budget.
36:50So we are a stone's throw from Playa Blanca.
36:53What do you think of this location?
36:55The location is just right.
36:58I think the pool is really nice.
37:01This is not what I expected.
37:03It's very big as a communal pool.
37:05Yes, it's very nice, clean, tidy.

37:09And, er, northern beaches.

37:28I've gone a little bit compact because the previous property you thought might be a bit too big.
37:32So I've thrown in something where you can have that holiday and home feel, hopefully.

38:13Yeah, I think it's really nice.

38:39The sea is good, the location is good, but I'm just concerned of the traffic going up
38:44and down.
38:45You are in busy Playa Blanca here, so to get you close to that bustling location, there's
38:49a road in and out.
38:50But, you know, peace and quiet by the pool, it's fine, but it's a concern.

39:06I feel it's really like congested.
39:09It's not even a little bit spacious.
