00:25calling them trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal.
00:29But the opposition says the questions won't go away.

00:37Newly released Epstein emails are making waves in India's political circles,
00:42dragging in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump, Israel and even billionaire business figures.
00:50The government says the claims are nonsense. The opposition calls it a national embarrassment.
00:55The emails released by the US Department of Justice as part of its Epstein investigation include messages where Epstein claimed that Donald Trump influenced Prime Minister Modi's 2017 visit to Israel.
01:09In one email dated July 6th, 2017, the final day of Modi's Israel trip, Epstein wrote that Modi had taken advice and that the visit had worked after Modi and Trump met weeks earlier.
01:23Epstein also claimed he could help arrange meetings between Modi and Trump ally Steve Bannon and suggested Modi was on board after the 2019 election.
01:33India's Ministry of External Affairs rejected the claims outright, in a sharp statement, the MEA said that aside from the fact of Modi's official visit to Israel,
01:44everything else in the email deserved the utmost contempt, dismissing it as fantasy from a convicted criminal.
01:51We have seen reports from an email message from the so-called Epstein files that has a reference to the Prime Minister and his visit to Israel.
02:03Beyond the fact of the Prime Minister's official visit to Israel in July 2017, the rest of the allusions in the email are little more than trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal which deserve to be dismissed with the utmost contempt.
02:19The timing has added fuel. Modi is expected to visit Israel again later this month.
02:26Opposition leaders called the emails shocking and shameful, demanding clarity from the government.
02:32Congress leaders pointed to emails dated May 24th, 2019, the day Modi was sworn in for his second term,
02:40where Epstein spoke about Modi, China, Pakistan and claimed to have had an interesting Modi meeting.
02:46The BJP hit back, accusing the opposition of manipulating the email text to falsely suggest Modi took advice from Epstein.

04:58Puri hasn't denied sending the email, but the government has avoided commenting on it.
05:03All of this comes from a massive release of nearly 3 million pages under US transparency laws
05:09tied to Epstein's abuse network and influence operations.
05:13So the government says the claims are garbage, the opposition says serious questions remain.
