00:00Hello Friend!
00:02Linux is better than Windows in almost every aspect, but it does not matter.
00:07Because people will keep using Windows in 2026, 2030 and beyond.
00:13Not because it is superior technology, but because it is superior psychology.
00:18As a Linux user myself, I always try to promote Ganoo Linux by writing blogs, creating videos and other forms of content.
00:27But here is the uncomfortable truth that I have come to accept.
00:31No matter how much we the Linux community try, people are still going to keep using Microsoft Windows.
00:38Not because it is better, but because being better does not actually matter when competing against human behavior.
00:45Let me explain why Windows will continue to dominate the desktop operating market share.
00:51Before we dive into why Windows keeps winning, let me be very clear.
01:00Ganoo Linux is objectively a better operating system in most technical aspects.
01:05It is free and open source, more secure, more private and fully customizable.
01:11It runs faster, uses fewer resources and works smoothly even on older hardware.
01:17So if Linux is so much superior, why does Windows keeps winning?
01:22Because technical superiority has never been enough.
01:26And here are the actual machineries that keeps Microsoft Windows in power.
01:35Windows come pre-installed on 95% of computers sold worldwide.
01:40That's it.
01:41When someone walks into a store and buys a laptop or a computer, it has Windows on it.
01:48Meaning, users do not choose Windows.
01:51It is already there.
01:52And for an average person, what is already there is good enough.
01:56And then switching to Linux means backing up data, creating bootable USB, installing a new operating system, reconfiguring settings and reinstalling software.
02:08Even though this just take 1-2 hours, it is still 1-2 hours of effort, which most computer users will never invest.
02:17And this is human nature.
02:19People won't pursue excellence if it requires even minimal work.
02:23They will tolerate mediocrity if it comes with zero effort.
02:27Windows out of the box has been easy to use for decades.
02:36Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10 have cemented that legacy.
02:41But more importantly, everyone has used Windows.
02:45Even if someone does not own a personal computer, there is a high probability that they have used Windows based computer in their schools, universities and workplaces.
02:56So, when the time comes to choose an operating system for themselves, Windows becomes the obvious choice.
03:02Not because it is better, but because it is familiar.
03:06And humans are hardware to stick with what they know.
03:10Changes feel risky, even when the alternative is objectively superior.
03:15We do not think about this much, but in general, we as computer users use our apps and programs way more than we ever use our operating system.
03:29And when it comes to apps and software support, Microsoft Windows is still the king.
03:35Additionally, not everyone uses their PC just for entertainment. Computers are workstations.
03:42People use them to run businesses, for creative work, video meetings and so on.
03:47And as Windows was a business-centric operating system right from the start, it caught the upper hand.
03:54Professional softwares like Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and AutoCAD keep users locked onto Windows.
04:02Yes, powerful free and open-source alternatives like LibreOffice, Gimp and KedInLife exist.
04:08But the reality is, if your job depends on Adobe Premiere Pro, you are not going to switch to KedInLife just because it is good enough.
04:17Your career, your workflow, your client's expectation, all of it is built around that specific software.
04:25The same thing is true for hardware.
04:27Computer hardware manufacturers always target the Windows user base first.
04:32And even today, many proprietary hardware components lack driver support for GNU Linux.
04:38So, for an user, Windows is not the best choice, but the only safe choice that guarantees their work gets done.
04:46A majority of users use their computers mainly for gaming.
04:55And the gaming industry too is very much Windows focused.
04:59With the advent of competitive e-sports and video game streaming services, the gaming space has become a multi-billion dollar industry.
05:08Many users aspire to make it big there.
05:11And with Windows, they get an assurance that their favorite games and hardwares like graphic card, capture card and cameras will work right out of the box.
05:21But things have started to change.
05:23Now, handheld devices like Steam Deck runs GNU Linux as their default operating system.
05:29Wine and Proton compatibility layer works for more than 80% of Steam's library.
05:36And native GNU Linux games are also growing in numbers.
05:40But what has not changed is the perception.
05:43Most gamers still think GNU Linux cannot game.
05:47Many competitive multiplayer anti-cheat systems still do not support Linux.
05:52So, even though Linux can game now, the myths persist.
05:56And myths are harder to kill than facts.
06:03Do-it-yourself is one of the core philosophies of GNU Linux systems.
06:08And most of the time, it does not go well with Windows users.
06:12Even before someone start using GNU Linux, they are expected to do some prerequisites.
06:18Like backup creation, hardware compatibility checks, tackling the file system differences, etc.
06:25But for users who rarely open their Windows control panel, this is overwhelming.
06:30It is not that Windows users cannot do these things.
06:33They just don't want to.
06:35And in today's modern society, where convenience is the key,
06:39people pay extra for pre-assembled furnitures, meal kits and one-click shopping.
06:44Why would they bother about computers?
06:47Windows treat you like tenant.
06:49But GNU Linux asks you to be an architect.
06:52It asks users to invest time upfront to gain freedom and control later.
06:57Windows says just use it, don't think about it.
07:00For most users, that trade-off is not even close.
07:04Hundreds of distributions, dozens of desktop environments, multiple package managers and different installation methods.
07:16For an experienced Linux user, this is freedom.
07:19But for an Windows user who is thinking of making a switch to GNU Linux, it is a nightmare.
07:25Which distro should I choose?
07:27Which is better?
07:28GNOME or KDE?
07:29Should I use Flatpak or Snaps?
07:31Having too many options become a curse.
07:34It creates confusion.
07:36And confusion leads to inaction.
07:38Windows offers an easy path.
07:40Linux offers a hundred.
07:42And most users prefer the easy one.
07:45Beyond all the individual reasons, there is a meta factor that perpetuates Windows dominance.
07:56Everyone else use Windows, so you have to use Windows too.
08:00Businesses use Windows because ID departments are trained on Windows.
08:05Enterprise software targets Windows.
08:08And switching costs are enormous.
08:10Individuals use Windows because their workplace uses Windows.
08:14Their family and friends use Windows.
08:17Tech support knows Windows.
08:19And tutorials assume that you are using Windows.
08:22This creates a self-reinforcing cycle.
08:25Windows dominance perpetuates Windows dominance.
08:29Even if GNU Linux become 10 times better tomorrow, the network effect would still favor Windows.
08:39GNU Linux advocates do not like to hear this.
08:43But the truth is, these problems I mentioned are not going away anytime soon.
08:48Things would have to change drastically for GNU Linux to be in competition.
08:53First of all, GNU Linux would need to come pre-installed in mainstream PCs.
08:58Which is very unlikely because manufacturers have Microsoft's contract.
09:02Then Adobe, Autodesk and Microsoft would need to port their software to GNU Linux.
09:08Which won't happen because there is no financial incentive.
09:12Finally, the entire professional ecosystem would need to shift.
09:16Which again won't happen because corporate structures are very reluctant to make any changes.
09:22So, none of these are happening and people will keep using Windows despite GNU Linux being a better alternative.
09:30Because convenience beat quality every time.
09:34Familiarity beats innovation.
09:36And because everyone else use it beats everything else.
09:41And that's not changing in 2026 or probably even 2030.
09:49If you are an open source advocate, stop expecting mass adoption.
09:54It's not happening.
09:55Focus on making Linux better for those who do choose it.
09:59If you are a Windows user, curious about Linux, then try it.
10:03Use a live USB, test it for a week, you might get surprised.
10:07And if you are sticking with Windows, that's fine.
10:10But at least understand what you are trading.
10:13Freedom, privacy and control for convenience and familiarity.
10:18The tragedy is not that Linux is not winning.
10:20The tragedy is that most of you Windows users will never know what you are missing.
10:26And what it feels like to truly own your computer.
10:29But that's human nature.
10:31And human nature does not change.
10:33Just because technology does.
10:35Or does it?
10:36Maybe I am wrong.
10:37Maybe the next generation won't tolerate Windows telemetry.
10:40Maybe Steam Deck success will shift gaming perception.
10:44Maybe one major software company porting to Linux will change everything.
10:47Drop a comment.
10:49Are you a Linux user who have accepted this reality?
10:52Or would you try to prove me wrong?
10:54I want to hear your perspective.

11:03I will see you in the next one.
