00:00Hello friend, Zorino S18 has just been released.
00:05And in the next few minutes, I will show you the easiest way to install it properly.
00:10Whether you want to test it safely in a virtual box or install it directly in a physical hardware,
00:16I will cover it all.
00:18You pick your path and use the timestamps in the description to jump exactly where you
00:23need.
00:24So without further ado, let's begin.
00:30Our first step in this process is to download the Zorin OS 18 core edition installation
00:36ISO.
00:37So, go to Zorin.com and click the blue colored download button.
00:44This will take you to the Zorin OS's main download page.
00:48There you will see 4 editions, Zorin OS Pro which costs around $48 and comes with extra
00:56features and support.
00:58Then, Zorin OS Core Edition, completely free and the best choice for everyday users.
01:04So, we will be installing this one today.
01:07Next is Zorin OS Education Edition, made for students, schools and universities.
01:14And finally, Zorin OS Lite, perfect for old low-resource computers.
01:19Okay, now come back to Core Edition and click on download.
01:24It will ask you to provide your email address and subscribe to Zorin OS's newsletter.
01:30But you can skip this and proceed to the ISO download.
01:34The file is about 3GB so give it few minutes to download.
01:42If you want to test Zorin OS 18 without touching your current system, use VirtualBox.
01:48Open VirtualBox and click New.
01:52First name your Virtual Machine.
01:54I will call it Zorin18VM.
01:57Leave the Virtual Machine folder as default.
02:00Select your downloaded ISO from the drop-down menu.
02:04Then jump to Specify Virtual Hardware and allocate resources.
02:09To get the best results, you can give half of your system's resources.
02:14Next is Specify Virtual Hard Disk.
02:17Here you leave everything as default but increase the hard disk space to at least 50GB if you
02:24plan to install apps and games.
02:26Then click Finish and your VM is ready.
02:30Now click Start to boot it.
02:36If you are ready to install Zorin OS 18 on a real hardware, you will need a bootable USB or flash drive.
02:44I recommend using Ventoy because it is simple and reusable.
02:49So open Ventoy, your USB drive will be automatically detected.
02:55Just re-verify it and click Install.
02:59Once done, just copy-paste the Zorin OS ISO onto the USB drive.
03:04That's it.
03:05Now restart your PC and boot from the USB drive through your BIOS boot menu at startup.
03:12Usually it will be one of the function key or the delete button.
03:20If you are using VirtualBox, you will see Zorin boot screen immediately.
03:25But if you are installing Zorin OS through Ventoy bootable USB, then first you have to select the
03:31operating system and then boot in normal mode.
03:35In the Zorin boot screen, you will see three options.
03:39One, try or install Zorin OS which is recommended for most users.
03:44Two, safe graphics mode. Use this if you are having display issues.
03:49And three, try or install with Nvidia drivers.
03:53Only use this if you have an Nvidia graphic card.
03:56Select the appropriate option and then press Enter.
04:00The installer will then do a file system check, but you can skip this by pressing
04:05Ctrl plus C and then it will load the installer.
04:10Like all Ubuntu-based distros, Zorin OS also uses the Ubiquiti installer.
04:16And on its welcome screen, you will see three options.
04:20On the left side, there is language selection.
04:24In the center, is try Zorin OS to test Zorin OS 18 before installing.
04:29And on the right side, there is install Zorin OS to start the installation process immediately.
04:36So, if you want to explore Zorin OS first, then click try or quit the welcome screen.
04:43Otherwise, click install to begin installation.
04:47If you choose try Zorin OS, then it will launch the live environment.
04:52Where you can browse the internet, change desktop layouts, themes and all sorts of things.
04:57And to start the installation process again, all you have to do is launch the installer in the top left.
05:03In the installation process, the first thing to do is choose your preferred language from the list.
05:11The language you select here will become your system's default language.
05:15Mine is English, so I will go with that and continue.
05:19Next, select your preferred keyboard layout.
05:22I have an English layout keyboard, so American English is good for me.
05:27But if you are unsure, click detect keyboard layout.
05:31And it will ask you to press a few keys, follow the prompts and it will detect your keyboard layout automatically.
05:39In updates and software, the first two options are pre-selected.
05:44First one is download updates while installing.
05:48Keep this checked if you want a fully up-to-date system upon installation.
05:53And the second one is install third-party software and drivers.
05:57Keep this checked for better hardware support.
06:01The final and third option is the Zorin OS sensors.
06:04So, if you want to support Zorin OS with anonymous usage data, leave it unchecked.
06:10But if you do not want to share your data, select or check the box.
06:15In the installation type section, the default first option,
06:20erase disk and install Zorin OS is the best choice for beginners.
06:24It will auto-partition everything.
06:26For VirtualBox users, this only erases the virtual disk.
06:31Your real system is completely safe.
06:34But for physical installation, double check the drive you are selecting,
06:38because this will erase everything on it.
06:41If you are dual booting or want custom partition, choose something else.
06:46But for most users, automatic partition works perfectly.
06:50Additionally, if you prefer to encrypt your disk or use logical volume management,
06:55then you will get it in the advanced features.
06:58Then click install now.
07:00And the installer will create a swap and a boot partition automatically.
07:04And you can continue.
07:07Then the installer should automatically detect your location and time zone.
07:12But if it is wrong, you can change it.
07:14Either by selecting a place on the map,
07:17or by typing the name of your location in the search bar.
07:19The final step is configuring your username and password.
07:25First, enter your name.
07:27The username and the computer name will be autofilled.
07:30However, you can change them if you want.
07:33Like, I changed my computer name to Zorin18VM.
07:37Then, choose your password.
07:39Because this will be your user as well as root password,
07:43make sure it follows strong password rules.
07:46And then, click continue.
07:48After you complete the setup,
07:50the installer will copy files and configure your system.
07:54This takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
07:56Once done, click restart.
07:58If you are on a USB, it will prompt you to remove the drive.
08:03Do it and with that, the Zorin OS 18 installation will be complete.
08:08Post installation, when you restart your system,
08:11you will see the GDM login screen.
08:14Your username will be automatically captured.
08:17So, just enter your password and you will be in.
08:20Welcome to the newly installed Zorin OS 18 core edition.
08:24If you have installed Zorin OS on a physical hardware, you are all set.
08:29Explore the desktop, install apps from the software store and enjoy your system.
08:34But, if you have installed Zorin OS on VirtualBox,
08:38then I recommend installing guest editions for better performance,
08:42shared folders and seamless keyboard-mouse integration.
08:46So, there you have it.
