00:00Keiji Muto takes the mic in the ring for the last time.
00:06Thanks for the huge crowd here today at Tokyo Dome.
00:17I'm retiring after 39 years here today.
00:28He said, my pro wrestling life has been supremely a happy one.
00:41Even without me, the pro wrestling world will be explosive.
00:57Please show your support going forward into the future.
01:04He said, I got a little bit of energy left. I can leave of my own volition on my feet.
01:12And that's one last thing I must do.
01:24And he calls Chono to the ring.
01:31Oh, he's asked Chono to fight him in the ring.
01:37He's asked Chono to fight him in the ring here right now at the Tokyo Dome after the main event.
01:49There's no one here, Chono.
01:50There's no one here, Chono.

02:04Oh, did not see this one coming.
02:12I thought he was just asking him in to take a bow, but he's asking him in to fight him.
02:18He's giving Chono his retirement match.
02:21This is the main event we were not expecting.
02:40He needs a referee in there.
02:48Is this happening?
02:49Mr. Hattori steps up.

03:13It rises to the occasion.
03:17I'm not sure which of the two is unsteady or on their feet.
03:34But one thing's for sure, both of these men still have plenty of fight left in them, whether
03:39their bodies do or not.
03:41They're lapping this up, aren't they?
03:46What are we witnessing here?
03:48I'm not quite sure.
03:49Oh, he says you've got to take your sunglasses off.

13:22that's the image right there
13:36and back to us
13:38on the commentary desk
13:40I've had a couple of
13:41emotional moments
13:44on commentary over my years of my career
13:46but I have to admit
13:48gentlemen, the end there
13:50I was choking it back just
13:52to get the ending done
13:54something else
13:56really, absolutely something else
13:58we just witnessed here today
13:59let's take a quick run back at some of the
14:02master stage matches and then
14:04we'll wrap it up with Keiji
14:06Muto, the man of the moment
14:08here today, so we saw a tag match
14:10the final de lucha
14:12Gedo teaming up with Taiji Ishimori
14:14taking on Nosawa Rongai
14:16and Mazada, very short match
14:18and Nosawa Rongai bows out
14:20from pro wrestling here today
14:21another emotional match too
14:23we saw
14:24Ishimori
14:25which we, you know, he's the bone soldier
14:28he's a cold killer
14:30but
14:30interesting
14:32and unexpected
14:34I'm going to go backstage now
14:39I'm going to go backstage now
14:40he said I became a pro wrestler
14:44he said I became a pro wrestler
14:46joined New Japan because I wanted to be a pro wrestler
14:49like Keiji Muto
14:50I was going to go backstage now
14:54so that I love
14:55I'm going to go backstage now
14:56But I felt the regret of the match to the end of the match.
15:11I felt the face of the match to the end of the match.
15:24I thought I'd like to be a pro wrestler as I was going to be a pro wrestler.
15:34I'm not happy to be in the end of the match.
15:47I'm not so happy to be a pro wrestler.
15:53He says there's no happier pro wrestler than me right now.
15:57I was going to go to the ring and I enjoyed the time with the Muto KJ.
16:09He said he enjoyed every single second and minute of that time in the ring with KJ Muto.
16:16I'm going to go to the ring, but I'm still going to go to my wrestling life.
16:22KJ Muto may have left the ring, but my pro wrestling career continues on.
16:30I was going to go to the end of my wrestling life, and I was going to go to the end of my wrestling life.
16:43I'm going to go to the end of my wrestling life, and I'm going to go to the end of my wrestling life.
16:51He says he doesn't know when the end of his career might be tomorrow, next month, next year, 30 years from now.
16:58I'm going to go to the end of my wrestling life, and I'm going to go to the end of my wrestling life.
17:03But he plans to continue wrestling with LIJ in the New Japan ring.
17:09In the New Japan ring.
17:10There's more in the quarter match is coming up tomorrow.
17:22I have no time to rest.
17:24How many people are here?
17:31There's quite a lot of people gathered here today.
17:37Are you coming to watch me wrestle tomorrow?
17:42He said, I'm going to remember each and every one of your faces.
17:45Fantastic Mania tomorrow, look forward to it.
17:53Big plug there from Tetsuya Naito and the LIJ members.
18:01Well, there we go.
18:02He may have put the end on the career of Keiji Muto here today, but he continues on.
18:07And that's just the way it is, nothing stops, it has to keep going.
18:11And all of these guys at the top, trying to get to the top, you don't get to rest.
18:18Marathon.
18:19Yeah, it's the marathon with no finish line, as Keiji Muto says.
18:24Exactly right.
18:25This is what Naito said, next year, 30 years, who knows?
18:29And we also saw a great Tokyo Tornado match.
18:34Hiromu Takahashi, the IWGP junior heavyweight champion, taking on Amakusa, the GHC junior heavyweight champion.
18:41They gave the fans what they wanted, Amakusa, obviously not pleased with the outcome.
18:46Upset, but he gave it his all, and he won so many new admirers, I'm sure, here in this venue today.
18:51And it bodes well for his future career, I think, and he will look to keep hold of that title now, GHC junior heavyweight championship.
18:57He's got a defense coming up, he has to put his mind onto that, but this will be, hopefully, a stepping stone for him to carve out big reputation in this division.
19:04And my word, the double main event, Kazuchika Okada versus Kaito Kiyomiya, that delivered more than the goods we expected to IWGP world heavyweight champion Okada.
19:23The young gun, but holder of the GHC heavyweight gold, Kaito Kiyomiya, they went at it, hammer and tongs.
19:34It was a hard loss, it was a decisive loss for Kiyomiya, but it was a respectable loss, you know what I mean?
19:41I don't think he lost face here. I thought everything that Okada threw at him, he had an answer for it, except for that last brain maker, especially towards the end.
19:51But I think both Kiyomiya and Okada, this is a huge chapter in both of their careers.
19:57They're transforming, but in different ways.
20:01We're going to come back and reference this for years to come, I think.
20:04Yeah, it's not quite as simple as two heavyweight champions colliding equally.
20:10There's a balance off there, you know, the age, the experience.
20:14But the supernova showed today, he gave it 100%, and nothing to be ashamed of with that loss.
20:23And he's the kind of wrestler who can take that weight on his shoulders and turn the negative into positive.
20:30Absolutely, he's done that so many times, and you just know he's going to bounce back from that, whoever awaits him for the next GHE heavyweight championship defense.
20:38Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing how their individual careers play out, but at what time in the future do they, and in what circumstance, do they meet again?
20:48Because it would seem like it's bound to happen.
20:51It needs to happen.
20:52It's hard to tell, but let's just keep paying attention this year.
20:55Sure.
20:56Who knows what will happen?
20:56And still a hugely enjoyable match, even though we are no men.
21:03Kazuchika Okada is something special.
21:05If you love pro wrestling, you can't complain against that.
21:08Absolutely.
21:09Yeah, for sure.
21:11And pro wrestling, last love, we just witnessed more than a main event.
21:15That was more than a main event than we could possibly have imagined.
21:19Well, let's talk about Naito and Muto first.
21:24And it started off, again, a little bit, you know, butting heads, a little blood, a lot more mat work than I thought we would see.
21:33A lot of, I guess it was like a reference to Takara match.
21:37We got to see what Naito has truly made, and we got to see his wild creativity running down that ramp and the basement dropkick.
21:46That was like a hundred-meter dash he did.
21:49People got to realize that was a far, far run.
21:52He didn't even, it was about half of the ramp, and it was still quite far.
21:56Yeah.
21:57So, yeah.
21:58Yeah, it was a fight.
22:00And then the surprise main event.
22:03How about it?
22:04What was that?
22:04Yeah.
22:05Oh, my.
22:05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:06But before that.
22:07Oh, sure, sure.
22:08Sorry.
22:08Jumping around.
22:09Sorry.
22:09A lot of mat wrestling, but Keiji Muto, he just kept getting back up.
22:15Yep, he did.
22:16And nobody would have thought that.
22:17They would have thought, you know, he would go down, and he would struggle.
22:20Sure, sure.
22:20And, you know, he might, you know, get a second win.
22:24But he kept getting back up on his feet, and he kept attacking.
22:27Yeah.
22:27That has to move the hearts of any pro wrestling fans.
22:29Absolutely.
22:29He showed so much heart, so much resolve at this stage of his career.
22:3260 years old to date, and also those really touching tributes to Shinya Hashimoto, to Mitsuhawa Misawa.
22:39Really, really special moments, special offerings.
22:41But ultimately, Tetsuya Naito avenges his defeat from 11 years ago at the Tokyo Dome.
22:47Yeah.
22:48Yeah, ultimately, that's what it is.
22:50Yeah.
22:51So then, yeah, jumping into the surprise main event with Masahiro Shono, getting called into
22:57the ring by Keiji Muto, not just to, you know, take a bow and, you know, let's see this out
23:03with some happy faces on.
23:04Told him in to fight him.
23:06I think Shono was as surprised as we were.
23:08Yeah.
23:09Tiger Hattori, a retired New Japan official, was in there to make the count.
23:13We heard G-Man on the call.
23:15It was a match.
23:16And look who walked away with the win, Shono.
23:19Yeah.
23:20Lenny Hart as well in a tennis.
23:22That's a first in pro wrestling out here in Japan.
23:25Lenny Hart calling some of the matches out.
23:28It was just something else.
23:30And Shono had his official retirement match there.
23:32He said he couldn't do it.
23:33He said his body wasn't up to it.
23:34But there it was, alongside Keiji Muto, his best friend.
23:37That's one of the beautiful things about pro wrestling, especially Japanese puroress.
23:42Yeah.
23:43The way things are pulled full circle.
23:46It might be a little bit messy and chaotic sometimes, but the stories, even if they're,
23:50you know, decades, they still get pulled full circle.
23:54And it's just a beautiful thing to watch.
23:56No arbitrary silliness.
23:58It's all rooted in our reality, real life.
24:02You know, these are real relationships and real experiences that these guys had and girls had.
24:07Yeah.
24:07The fitting finale and farewell to the living legend Keiji Muto today.
24:11One standout moment from each of you here today.
24:15For me, it would have to be the Tokyo Tornado match.
24:19I'd love to see Hiromu and Anamakusa go at it.
24:23That was beautiful.
24:24Mark?
24:25Emble explosion from Keiji Muto on Tetsuya night.
24:29A really special moment.
24:30He lived true to his word.
24:31I think we're going to hear from him now, actually, backstage.
24:33Yep, let's go over to Keiji Muto.
24:35Thank you so much for your time.
24:38Oh, I just went to the car and I went to the car.
24:41He said, somebody's just brought in a wheelchair, but I did walk out from the ring by myself.
24:56I don't feel sad.
24:59I don't feel sad, very much.
25:03I'm not going to be able to drive this far.
25:06But the road to this point has been tough.
25:09I think it's finally finished.
25:10And it feels I'm finally done, finally finished.
25:14Yes.
25:17A sense of relief.
25:23Yeah, well...
25:24Yeah.
25:25He said, if the pro wrestling business collapses, it's because of him.
25:38He says, if the pro wrestling business collapses, it's because of him.
25:50He's not a good one, so he's not a good one.
25:57He's not a good one.
26:03He's a good one.
26:08He's a good one.
26:13He didn't care in the past. He'd be happy to break a leg for the love.
26:18He's a good one.
26:20But I just couldn't get up to that top rope here today.
26:24He's a good one.
26:38He said he's seen the angry face of his family.
26:41of his family so he's been distracted by that. He looked up at the ceiling and he thought this is huge.
26:50He said it's very rare to be lying face up in the middle of the Tokyo Dome.
27:03He said he really wanted to close things with Chono and it was quite amazing that he was
27:23able to move in the ring. He said I was really glad that he answered my call out.
27:33He said he wants to finish things off cleanly and he thought that the ending was
28:02a good finish for him.
28:10Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
28:14It's been tough for the last year.
28:18It's been tough for the last year.
28:22It's been tough for the last month.
28:24It's been tough for the last month.
28:28It's been tough for the last month.
28:30It's been tough for the last month.
28:32It's been tough for the last month.
28:34It's been tough for the last month.
28:38It's been tough for the last month.
28:44Yeah.
28:46I'm not sure if I can handle it for anyone else.
28:53I've been able to get a lot of the goals.
28:58I've been able to get a lot of the goals.
29:02I've been able to get a lot of the wrestlers so I didn't get a lot of the wrestlers.
29:13So, looking back, I've had a really happy life.
29:36He says he always reflects on his matches, and some of the matches where he hasn't been able to produce the goods,
29:41he's always looked back on it, and even today, when he knew he was not coming out again,
29:44he was looking back and thinking, I should have done this, I could have done that.
29:49This is the way of a pro wrestler.
29:51Perfectionist.
29:57I've already put my head on my head.
30:03Don't tell me about that.
30:05Don't tell me about that.
30:08That's it. I'm not looking back.
30:14I'm not looking back.
30:17He said, I want to become a normal old man.
30:20He said, I want to become a normal old man.
30:24I want to be a normal old man.
30:25He's carrying a lot of muscle muscles.
30:28He can't walk straight.
30:31I can't even walk in a normal old man.
30:33I can't walk.
30:34I can barely walk. Most normal old guys can walk.
30:37I want to be a normal body to go golf.
30:41He said I would like to have the ability to even go and play golf.
30:50I think I'm sad to be sad.
30:52I'm not unhappy at all. There's no sadness in me today.
30:57He'll probably get a little bit more.
31:01He said I might feel a little bit unsettled later.
31:04What am I going to do tomorrow?
31:08What am I going to do tomorrow?
31:10Is that all?
31:11I'm going to train.
31:12I'm going to train.
31:14He said yes, I'll keep training.
31:16If I don't keep training...
31:20If I don't keep training...
31:22If I don't keep training...
31:26If I don't keep training, I'm going to be a normal old man.
31:30If I don't keep training...
31:32I'm going to be able to walk and work.
31:35So he has to keep strong so that he can keep walking and try and lead the normal old man's life.
31:42I'm going to be able to change my routine every day.
31:48I'm not going to change my daily routine very much.
31:50He said if I come back, Sunny will be having words with me.
32:05What do you think you're going to be able to do tomorrow's life?
32:11Today, I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do tomorrow's life.
32:19I'm going to reflect on the poem that I'm going to be able to do tomorrow's life.
32:22I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do tomorrow's life.
32:26I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do tomorrow's life is that I'm going to be able to do tomorrow's life.
32:35He believes there's going to be a new era of pro wrestling born from now.
32:42I don't know how many people bought the pay-per-view and watched today.
32:49I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do tomorrow's life is that I'm going to be able to do tomorrow's life.
33:10I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do tomorrow's life.
33:15I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do tomorrow's life.
33:20Thank you very much for the 39-year career and your support.
33:27There we go, gentlemen.
33:39Very pragmatic words from Keiji Muto there and that really what he said at the end there explains everything.
33:51You know, he's not doing this for himself.
33:55It's for the love.
33:56It's for the love and it's for the younger wrestlers coming through, building them up and reaching out more into the world.
34:04And that's what we saw today. Aside from the double main event, we saw so much great wrestling from younger wrestlers from DDT, Tokyo Joshi Pro from Pro Wrestling, NOAH, Dragon Gate.
34:14All kinds of different styles of wrestling. Young wrestlers who will be out in the world soon.
34:21And Keiji Muto had to do with that. He had a big part in that.
34:25He may have retired today, but he's still a pro wrestler, still deep in his heart, still got pro wrestling caution through his veins and he always will.
34:31It's not going to change. Yeah, that's the beautiful thing about it.
34:35You see that with a lot of veterans and legends in their respective fields. It never leaves them.
34:42Sure. They constantly want to give back. It's a beautiful thing.
34:47Well, gentlemen, it's been an absolute pleasure on the broadcast today.
34:51Same here for me.
34:52Absolutely. Thank you, guys. And thank you, everybody watching around the world on Wrestle Universe joining us on the ARC today for this epic, epic adventure.
