00:03:01I hope so...
00:03:03But he sometimes forgets to keep me in the loop...
00:03:06But I just chalk that up to him trying to be an adult...
00:03:10Nah, that's all kids...
00:03:11They expect you to read their minds...
00:03:15You would think as much as he's on his phone, though, he would find a minute to drop his mom the line...
00:03:21Neither my kids will figure that out yet, and they're older than Daniel...
00:03:24Unless they want something...
00:03:26Well, I want you to have a Merry Christmas, Paul.
00:03:31Thank you, Mary.
00:03:32You have a Merry Christmas, too?

00:21:21Hi, yes, I'm calling about the Sutton Estate sale that was scheduled for this Saturday.

00:21:27We are handling that sale.
00:21:29Oh, good.
00:21:29I'm calling about the nutcracker that I saw in the picture with Miss Sutton.
00:21:35I was wondering if I could purchase it before Saturday or put a hold on it.
00:21:40We've had a lot of interest in that item, but unfortunately, it's already been sold.
00:21:47Oh.
00:21:49Oh, no.
00:21:51I'm sorry.
00:21:52There are a lot of similar Christmas items also for sale if you want me to email you those pictures.
00:21:58Um, no, thank you.
00:22:01Can you tell me who bought it?
00:22:02No, ma'am.
00:22:03That information is confidential.

00:22:56Oh, no.
00:22:56I called the company that was handling the estate, and they said that a man bought it
00:23:02for a woman.
00:23:05Oh, well, at least that's noble, right?
00:23:09No.
00:23:11I mean, yes, but I really wanted that to complete my grandmother's set.
00:23:21Oh, no.
00:23:22What?
00:23:24You don't think Richard bought it, do you?
00:23:28That would be just like that slimy worm.
00:23:31His last comment sounded like a threat.
00:23:33You think he bought it to get you back?
00:23:36I don't know.
00:23:38I am so mad right now.
00:23:41I am.
00:23:42Me too.
00:23:44Well, you don't know it was Richard.
00:23:46It could have actually been a man who was genuinely trying to make a woman happy.
00:23:54What are the odds, though?
00:23:57It's just not fair.
00:24:00It was so close.
00:24:02We need a distraction.
00:24:09We have under two weeks until the art benefit.
00:24:12We still have a lot to do.
00:24:14Yeah, I know.
00:24:17The decorations are up next week.
00:24:20Do you want to hire someone or use volunteers?
00:24:27Volunteers.
00:24:28The less money we have to spend, the more we can give to cancer research.
00:24:32Good idea.
00:24:33Wyatt?
00:24:34Yeah.
00:24:36For what?
00:24:38For volunteering.
00:24:39Oh.
00:24:42Don't worry, Wyatt.
00:24:43That's how she ropes me into volunteering, too.
00:24:46That's okay.
00:24:47Just tell me when and where you want me.
00:24:50Oh, I will, Wyatt.
00:24:53But I think I'll let Mary handle that.
00:24:57She is the one in charge.
00:24:58Well, I'm ready to start whenever you are, Mary.
00:25:06All right, I'll go get some paper.
00:25:08We can plan out what we're going to set up.
00:25:10You're good at distracting her.
00:25:18Yeah, it's what I do.
00:25:20And you're a really good friend.
00:25:21I know.
00:25:23And I'm really protective, too.
00:25:25And I don't want her to get hurt.
00:25:28You get me?
00:25:28Yeah, I get you.
00:25:32I don't want her to get hurt, either.
00:25:34Good.
00:25:37All right.
00:25:38I found some paper and some markers.
00:25:41I thought we could draw out the venue and kind of plan where we're going to set everything up.
00:25:45Sounds good.
00:25:46All right.
00:25:47There you go.
00:25:50I think the door would be over here.
00:25:58Welcome to a little something special.
00:26:02Oh, hey, Cliff.
00:26:03How are you?
00:26:04Doing good, Mary.
00:26:06No complaints.
00:26:09How's business?
00:26:10Well, I'm hoping for some good old Christmas spirit to get me through to the end of the year.
00:26:15Yeah, aren't we all?
00:26:18I haven't seen you and Rally Mae in quite some time.
00:26:21How's she doing?
00:26:23Oh, okay.
00:26:25Oh.
00:26:26You know.
00:26:26Well, tell her that I hope to see her soon.
00:26:31I will.
00:26:31I will.
00:26:37Actually, Mary.
00:26:42Yes, Cliff?
00:26:43Ellie Mae passed away.
00:26:48Have a great day.
00:26:49Thank you so much.
00:26:50Yeah, thank you.
00:26:56Hello, Mary.
00:27:02Richard, what are you doing in my store?
00:27:04I'm just coming to check on a friend.
00:27:06Well, see how you're doing about the sale of the store.
00:27:10The store isn't for sale.
00:27:12The building is.
00:27:14Eh, technically the same.
00:27:15No, it's not.
00:27:17Yeah, but it should be.
00:27:18Listen, Mary, you've got to think about your future.
00:27:23When you're stuck in the past, the dust in this store is holding you back.
00:27:29You know, I can get you a lot of money on the sale of this.
00:27:32Ever since I became the agent for the mall, I've been having so many inquiries with people wanting to move in.
00:27:37Well, that's great for you, Richard, but I'm not selling my store.
00:27:41Oh, think about it, Mary.
00:27:43You could have so much free time and money to spend on traveling, shopping, doing your nails, things like that.
00:27:51I am doing just fine.
00:27:53I can still afford to get my nails done.
00:27:56If you'd sold the store earlier, maybe you'd have the nutcracker.
00:28:01I knew I should have never told you that I found it.
00:28:04But you did.
00:28:04You bought it before I could. How could you do that?
00:28:07If you had listened to me, you would have had the time and the money to buy it yourself.
00:28:12So you came to gloat?
00:28:14No, Lamb.
00:28:16I came to invite you to dinner.
00:28:22Dinner?
00:28:23Yes, dinner.
00:28:25You know, two friends talking about the future.
00:28:28I have what you want.
00:28:30You know, I can give you exactly what you're looking for.
00:28:33You're blackmailing me into having dinner with you?
00:28:37No.
00:28:38Just two friends discussing the future.
00:28:42And...
00:28:43Talk about what we can mutually provide for each other.
00:28:52Fine.
00:28:53I'll go.
00:28:55Great.
00:28:56I'll text you the details.
00:28:58I blocked your number.
00:28:59Then maybe you should unblock it.
00:29:03And Christmas is a time for forgiveness, Mary.
00:29:06I'll chat with you soon.
00:29:17He's not worth the prison time, Mary.
00:29:20Not worth the prison time.
00:29:22Hey.
00:29:26Hey, Mary.
00:29:29Are you okay?
00:29:33Not really.
00:29:35I just had a really unpleasant run-in with my ex.
00:29:38Oh.
00:29:40Some people are so terrible.
00:29:42I can't even bring myself to bless his heart.
00:29:48That's a really great insult.
00:29:52Must be a pretty bad guy.
00:29:55Not bad.
00:29:56Just...
00:29:58Impossible.
00:30:01So, what brings you in today?
00:30:04Well, I knew you were upset.
00:30:06I wanted to try to come cheer you up.
00:30:08Sweet, Wyatt.
00:30:09I don't think you can.
00:30:13I don't know.
00:30:14You haven't heard what I have to say yet.
00:30:17Okay.
00:30:20What do you have in mind?
00:30:22Well, the Sutton sale was a bust, obviously.
00:30:26So, I have the inside scoop on a private, unlisted, invitation-only estate sale.
00:30:32Private, unlisted, and invitation-only?
00:30:35Mm-hmm.
00:30:37Sounds intriguing.
00:30:37You don't know the half of it.
00:30:40I could make us an appointment for Saturday to go view the collection.
00:30:44I know Eric's here watching the store, so I thought we could go do that instead.
00:30:50Yeah.
00:30:51Yeah, that's fantastic.
00:30:53I'd love to.
00:30:54All right.
00:30:54All right.
00:30:55Great.
00:30:56I'll pick you up on Saturday.
00:30:58Okay.
00:30:58And maybe I can find you need some insight into how you find all of these beautiful pieces
00:31:05that you bring me to Sam.
00:31:06Oh.
00:31:09Maybe.
00:31:12All right.
00:31:14Bye.
00:31:14Bye.
00:31:14Bye.
00:31:15Bye.
00:31:16Bye.

00:31:38Bye.
00:31:39Bye.
00:31:40Bye.
00:31:41Bye.
00:31:41Bye.
00:31:42Hi, Mr. Porter.
00:31:48Ms. Potts.
00:31:48Hi.
00:31:49Yes, welcome.
00:31:50So nice to meet you.
00:31:51You too.
00:31:52Come on inside.
00:32:07We can hang your coats here in the closet.
00:32:12Oh, I'm Jordan Potts.
00:32:17I'm the sales agent for this estate.
00:32:18Hi, I'm Mary Little.
00:32:20Oh, the owner of A Little Something Special.
00:32:23I've heard so many wonderful things about your store.
00:32:26It's a place to meet you.
00:32:27Oh, well, thank you.
00:32:28It's a pleasure to meet you too.
00:32:30Well, I'll tell you what.
00:32:32Here's our programs, Mr. Porter and Ms. Little, with prices and lot numbers.
00:32:38And you can start in any room in the house that you like, but most people find it helpful
00:32:42to start in the upper rooms and work their way down.
00:32:45Great.
00:32:46Gosh, there's some really nice items here.
00:32:48Well, that's why it's invitation only.
00:32:51I'll be in the kitchen if you have any questions about a specific item.
00:32:54Thank you, Ms. Potts.
00:32:55You're welcome, Mr. Porter.
00:32:56This place is gorgeous.
00:33:06How did you find out about it?
00:33:08One of my cousins mentioned it.
00:33:09Well, if he mentions another sale like this, let me know.
00:33:12I'll come with you anytime.
00:33:14Left or right?
00:33:23Uh, left.
00:33:25Looks more interesting.
00:33:26Left it is, then.
00:33:27Oh, yikes.
00:33:52A little spendy.
00:33:53I don't know.
00:33:58It's probably right.
00:33:59It's an original, one owner, pristine condition.
00:34:04Yeah.
00:34:07Yeah.
00:34:08It's so beautiful.
00:34:10And still out of my price range.
00:34:13But gosh, I'd love to have something like this in my house.
00:34:16Yeah.
00:34:16If I could just get some more traffic in the store, I'd be way better off.
00:34:23What do you mean?
00:34:24It seems like the store's doing great.
00:34:26There's always people in there.
00:34:28Yeah.
00:34:29I mean, people come in and look all the time.
00:34:31It's just getting them to buy what they're looking at.
00:34:34Yeah.
00:34:35That's the hard part.
00:34:37Yeah.
00:34:37People can be very picky.
00:34:39Yeah.
00:34:39I look at all these beautiful pieces and I think about all the history that they have.
00:34:47I think, what have they seen?
00:34:52Whose hands have touched them?
00:34:55I mean, how do you put a price on that?
00:34:57Sentiment has so much more value than any first edition or mint condition collection.
00:35:10That's very true.
00:35:14Mary, is there anything I can do to help with the store?
00:35:18You're sweet, but no thank you.
00:35:22I actually may have to sell the store.
00:35:24What?
00:35:26Why?
00:35:26They're going to sell the building.
00:35:29The selling agent said that the new owner is going to raise the rent.
00:35:35That's not right.
00:35:36I know.
00:35:37We've had rent increases every six months.
00:35:43I can't afford another bump unless something drastic happens, like a Christmas miracle or something.
00:35:52I can help.
00:35:55I already said no.
00:35:56I don't need someone to come sweeping in and save me.
00:36:02I'm figuring it out.
00:36:04I don't need your money or your pity.
00:36:08I don't need your money or your pity.
00:36:08Mary, I'm sorry if it sounded like I was trying to take over or not, but it does sound like maybe you're comparing me to someone else.
00:36:30I'm sorry, Wyatt.
00:36:30I'm sorry, Wyatt.
00:36:34You're right.
00:36:35I shouldn't have said that.
00:36:37My experiences with men trying to help me just haven't ended very well.
00:36:42I do want to help.
00:36:48But what I meant was I could take a look at your books.
00:36:52I'm a whiz with finances.
00:36:54We could sit down, look at the numbers, see where you could cut costs, hopefully keep the store open.
00:36:59Really?
00:37:00Really?
00:37:00Yeah.
00:37:01Oh my God, Wyatt, that would be fantastic.
00:37:05I'm sorry that I snapped at you.
00:37:09No, it's okay.
00:37:10I knew you weren't mad at me.
00:37:13Oh yeah?
00:37:14How's that?
00:37:15I know better than to tell a Southern woman what to do.
00:37:20I've learned a lot of lessons the hard way.
00:37:23And one of them is that people need the chance to do things for themselves.
00:37:27And I know you can do it.
00:37:30Wow.
00:37:33I have done a lot on my own and it makes me happy that you can see that.
00:37:39I can see it.
00:37:40And I'm impressed about how hard you work and how much you do.
00:37:47You've got the brains and willpower to fix it.
00:37:49I've just got the knowledge to give you a push in the right direction.
00:37:53And look, you can always choose to not take my advice.
00:37:56And if you don't, I promise there will be no hard feelings.
00:38:00You are a treasure.
00:38:02Can you give lessons?
00:38:05That would take knowledge and patience that I do not have.
00:38:08And you're patient with me.
00:38:13Here to me.
00:38:20I think there's one more room to look through.
00:38:24I think so.
00:38:25Thank you for bringing me to this sale.
00:38:51Oh, it was my pleasure.
00:38:54And I love looking at other people's stuff.
00:38:55I'm really nosy.
00:38:57Aren't we all?
00:38:59See, would you mind running some of this stuff by the store first?
00:39:02It'll save me a trip and I can check on Eric.
00:39:05Of course.
00:39:05I'm happy to.
00:39:07I take it today was a good day.
00:39:32It was a very good day.
00:39:35All right.
00:39:36Just a few more trips and I think we'll be all done.
00:39:39Need any help?
00:39:40No, this was the only big piece I got.
00:39:45So, how was business today?
00:39:47Actually, we had a great morning.
00:39:49Sold tons of stuff.
00:39:51Now it tapered off.
00:39:52The big Christmas festival opened this afternoon.
00:39:55I expect a lot of folks went there.
00:39:57Yeah, I forgot about that.
00:40:00You know what?
00:40:01Let's close early.
00:40:03Are you sure?
00:40:04Well, yeah.
00:40:05We'll just load this stuff into the back and we can go through it on Monday.
00:40:08And you can go and have a good Saturday with your wife.
00:40:13Well, thanks, Mary.
00:40:18Let me get the door for you.
00:40:19Thank you, sir.
00:40:20Okay, what else needs to come in?
00:40:26It was this and...
00:40:28The lamp and that little box of figurines, please.
00:40:32And then the rest can go to my personal collection.
00:40:34Got it.
00:40:40You know, Mary, since you're closing the store, you've got the evening off, too.
00:40:46Yeah.
00:40:46Well, I'm thinking you could probably have a great Saturday, too.
00:40:52Not you, too, Eric.
00:40:55I haven't seen you smile like that in forever.
00:40:59Maybe it's time to see where a smile can take you.
00:41:03I don't know.
00:41:05Not ready.
00:41:06We never are.
00:41:09Some things in this store are priceless.
00:41:11You, especially, start treating yourself like it.
00:41:22There you go.
00:41:24Thanks again.
00:41:25No problem.
00:41:26Happy to help.
00:41:27I'll start closing.
00:41:31Closing?
00:41:33Yeah.
00:41:34Business is slow, so I told him to just go ahead and go on home.
00:41:37Um, well, does that mean you're free this evening?
00:41:46Yeah.
00:41:48Well, would you like to go maybe grab some dinner and celebrate our antiquing success?
00:41:55Yes.
00:41:56I'd like that.
00:41:59All right.
00:41:59Well, great.
00:42:01Well, let's get this stuff to the back and we can go.
00:42:04Okay.
00:42:06Thank you, hon.
00:42:06That was amazing.
00:42:28I've been meaning to try it, but I've never had the time or the right company.
00:42:33Well, I'm happy to oblige.
00:42:34Best hot chocolate, huh?
00:42:44They all say that.
00:42:46I don't know.
00:42:48I think I have to try it.
00:42:50It could be the best hot chocolate ever.
00:42:53Well, I guess we better find out then.
00:42:55I think it's fun.
00:43:21Set him right here
00:43:31Thank you for coming with me today, Mary
00:43:41You're welcome
00:43:42I had a really great time
00:43:44Dinner was amazing
00:43:46And that hot chocolate
00:43:48It really was some of the best in Memphis
00:43:50I might have had better
00:43:52But if I have, I don't remember
00:43:53So I should probably get these inside
00:44:01Yeah, do you want me to
00:44:03No, no, no, I got it
00:44:04Thank you
00:44:05Okay
00:44:06Thank you again
00:44:07Yeah
00:44:20Hey Mom, what's going on here?
00:44:25Daniel, hey, sweetheart, I didn't know you were coming home to me
00:44:29Yeah, yeah
00:44:30Hey Mom Marley
00:44:31Well, you should have told me
00:44:34I would have been here
00:44:36Well, it looks like you've been busy
00:44:38Daniel
00:44:39Buying things
00:44:40Mom, are we going to have room for whatever's in those boxes?
00:44:43Of course we will
00:44:44Uh, Daniel, you remember Wyatt?
00:44:51Daniel
00:44:51Hey
00:44:52Bad you made it home safe
00:44:53Yeah, I was fine
00:44:55You know, the flyover
00:44:56Yeah
00:44:57Yeah
00:44:59Um, I should probably go
00:45:02Um, so, uh, bye Mary
00:45:05See you later
00:45:06Bye
00:45:06Bye Daniel
00:45:07See ya
00:45:08Alright
00:45:09You know, uh, never gonna let you live that down, right?
00:45:20Live in what town?
00:45:21Just making out on the front porch
00:45:25I, I was not, I, I was not making you
00:45:28I simply gave a friend a hug
00:45:31Oh, yeah, hug, sure
00:45:32Get in the house
00:45:33Yeah, I'm sorry
00:45:34It's too cold for you to be out here in shorts
00:45:35I mean, uh, you seem pretty toasty to me
00:45:40Go
00:45:41I'm sorry
00:45:41Sorry
00:45:42Sorry
00:45:43I'm sorry
00:45:56Bye
00:45:57Bye
00:46:01Bye
00:46:06Bye
00:46:09Bye
00:46:12Bye
00:46:12Bye
00:46:12Bye
00:46:12Bye
00:46:12Elena, hey.
00:46:22You ready for me, Ed?
00:46:24I'm so excited.
00:46:25Yes, we are ready to hang up your stuff.
00:46:28Hey, lady.
00:46:29Can I see?
00:46:30Well, you will.
00:46:32But let me finish unpacking.
00:46:34I wouldn't want to damage anything before tomorrow.
00:46:36Okay.
00:46:37Here, I can help.
00:46:39Where should I put them?
00:46:41How about over there?
00:46:42Yeah, I think we have some space to separate them there.
00:46:46Is that a black light?
00:46:47It sure is.
00:46:48It's going to be cool.
00:46:51It's almost time.
00:46:52Trita would love this.
00:47:12It's beautiful.
00:47:25It's beautiful.
00:47:26Told you this was going to work.
00:47:28Oh, I got to go.
00:47:34Are you seriously going to have dinner with that ogre?
00:47:38I have to.
00:47:39He has the nutcracker.
00:47:41I've got to figure out how to get it back.
00:47:44Okay, whatever.
00:47:45But just whatever you do, don't tell him about the benefit tomorrow.
00:47:51Oh, I haven't.
00:47:52And I won't.
00:47:54Charita would roll over in her grave if he showed up here.
00:47:58Nah.
00:47:59No.
00:48:01It would be a full-on haunting.
00:48:03Like the ghost of Christmas past kind of thing.
00:48:06Chains and all.
00:48:08True.
00:48:08Does Wyatt know you're having dinner with Richard?
00:48:24No.
00:48:31You think you should tell him?
00:48:37No.
00:48:38I mean, we're not dating or anything.
00:48:41There's no reason to tell him.
00:48:44Okay.
00:48:46I just don't want him to get his feelings hurt if he finds out.
00:48:50I had a phone conversation with the buyer today.
00:49:10I had a phone conversation with Richard.
00:49:11Really?
00:49:12Things are progressing quite nicely.
00:49:14He's really eager to get that sale moving.
00:49:17Do you know you should look into selling that store?
00:49:19You can get so much money for it.
00:49:21It's not about the money, Richard.
00:49:24Of course it is.
00:49:26You need money to buy food, a house, or in your case, the nutcracker.
00:49:33Why are you holding that over my head?
00:49:36Because it's the one thing you seem to care about.
00:49:40What?
00:49:41I care about a lot of things.
00:49:42Yes.
00:49:43And sure, you can use money for certain things, but it only causes problems.
00:49:47If you really think that, why didn't you get the nutcracker first?
00:49:52What do you want, Richard?
00:49:57I want you to sell the store.
00:49:58No!
00:49:59It's the only way you're going to get the nutcracker.
00:50:02What?
00:50:04Look, ma'am, we were together for years, and that store always got between us.
00:50:10Every single disagreement was about finding time away from the store,
00:50:14or you feeling bad that you couldn't close the store because you were behind in sales.
00:50:19You need to get rid of it.
00:50:21I could take care of you.
00:50:23I don't want to be taken care of.
00:50:26Yeah, you do.
00:50:27All women do.
00:50:29All I want from you is the nutcracker.
00:50:33Then you need to make a choice.
00:50:37Do you want the nutcracker?
00:50:39Something you've been looking for your whole life.
00:50:42Where do you want to hold on to a failing store?
00:50:45Because the impression I get from the buyer is that he's going to raise the rent.
00:50:48And if that doesn't satisfy him, he's going to modernize it.
00:50:51Maybe even tear the whole thing down.
00:50:54You need to get out while you can make a tiny profit.
00:51:02Thank you for dinner, Richard.
00:51:03I'm suddenly not feeling very well.
00:51:08Poor lamb.
00:51:10Dropped a lot of truth on you this evening.
00:51:13Let me know what you decide.
00:51:15The store.
00:51:18Or the nutcracker.
00:51:19What are you doing?
00:51:44I'm so late.
00:51:44I have a lot on my mind.
00:51:50Did I wake you?
00:51:52No, I was live streaming the game.
00:51:54I was going to get some fuel to keep going.
00:51:56I have no idea what that means.
00:52:00I know.
00:52:02Okay.
00:52:03Good talk.
00:52:05What's wrong?
00:52:06Nothing.
00:52:11Everything's fine.
00:52:13Okay.
00:52:13Well, I know when something's wrong.
00:52:16Um...
00:52:18Is it because of the nutcracker?
00:52:22In a way.
00:52:24Yes.
00:52:26I know you were really, really looking forward to finding that.
00:52:29And hey, I was too.
00:52:30The legendary nutcracker that would complete great-grandma's set.
00:52:33But as cool as it would have been to find it, you know, it's not the end of the world.
00:52:40We have a lot of cool stuff here and at the store that you found while looking for it.
00:52:45You've helped a lot of other people find and complete their own sets.
00:52:48It's...
00:52:49I know it's not the ending you wanted, but hey, you taught me to find the sunshine poking through every cloud.
00:52:55You are a very smart young man.
00:53:02You must have been raised by a smart mom.
00:53:05No, actually.
00:53:06I was raised by you, so...
00:53:08My smarts must have come from somewhere else.
00:53:11I'm not sure, but...
00:53:12Okay.
00:53:13Very funny.
00:53:14I'm hilarious.
00:53:15And a little chilly, though.
00:53:19You are.
00:53:20But...
00:53:21Thank you for the pep talk.
00:53:24I needed it.
00:53:26And it's not the end of the world.
00:53:29You're right.
00:53:32So, uh...
00:53:33If you'll just do me a favor, say that into the microphone.
00:53:35You're right.
00:53:36Just one more...
00:53:36Okay.
00:53:38Should we go get a snack?
00:53:40Yes, please.
00:53:41Let's go, good Paul.
00:53:52Now, I need you to initial the bottom of every page.
00:53:56And I need you to sign here where it's marked.
00:53:59Once you do that, you will be the new owner of the strip mall and every shop in it.
00:54:04I'm going to get the notary so we can get started.
00:54:05I'm going to leave this with you so you can take a look at it and make sure all the changes are in the paperwork that you requested, okay?
00:54:11Be right back.
00:54:21Is everything in order?
00:54:25Yeah.
00:54:26It looks good.
00:54:27I'm ready to sign.
00:54:41This looks delicious.
00:54:46Wait till you try it.
00:54:47It tastes even better than it looks.
00:54:49Gwen is going to be so jealous that I got to see the fancy mac and cheese before she did.
00:54:54It really looks heavenly.
00:54:57It's my Mott's recipe.
00:54:59Oh, my gosh.
00:55:00I am so sorry.
00:55:01I forgot to introduce myself.
00:55:03I'm Mary.
00:55:03We spoke on the phone.
00:55:05I didn't see you come in.
00:55:06It's okay.
00:55:06I'm bad.
00:55:07You were so busy getting those trees ready while we were setting up and bringing in the food.
00:55:12It's okay.
00:55:13Well, I could smell it.
00:55:14Oh, good.
00:55:15Well, I hope everybody likes it.
00:55:17Oh, I know they will.
00:55:18Oh, good.
00:55:19You know, I wanted to thank you so much for inviting my mom.
00:55:23She's like beside herself with kittiness.
00:55:25In fact, she's still getting ready.
00:55:28But this is her first party since she's been diagnosed, so it's really important to her.
00:55:33Well, I can't wait to meet her.
00:55:37Well, it looks like I'm being summoned.
00:55:40Oh, you must go.
00:55:41Thank you so much for making this beautiful food.
00:55:44You're so welcome.
00:55:45I'm really so honored to be able to help you raise money for cancer research.
00:55:49So, thank you.
00:55:50I'll see you later.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:51Bye.
00:55:52Bye.
00:55:53Bye.
00:56:23Bye.
00:56:53Bye.
00:56:53Bye.
00:56:54Bye.
00:57:08Bye.
00:57:08Bye.
00:57:08Bye.
00:57:09Bye.
00:57:10Hi.
00:57:10clean up pretty good yourself.
00:57:14So how's it going?
00:57:15Actually, really well.
00:57:17Gwen just told me that Elena's already sold
00:57:19half of her inventory.
00:57:21So that means that we are going to have a good amount
00:57:23to donate to the Memphis Cancer Research Foundation.
00:57:26Oh, that is awesome.
00:57:28Congratulations.
00:57:29And the night is not over yet.
00:57:32Well, I'm sorry I was late getting here.
00:57:34I had to stop and take care of something on the way.
00:57:36Oh, no worries.
00:57:37I'm just glad you're here now.
00:57:38Um, there's something I need to talk to you about.
00:57:41Could we go talk for a second somewhere?
00:57:44Oh, yeah, sure.
00:57:45But can it wait?
00:57:47I have my speech to do.
00:57:49Oh, yeah, yeah, of course.
00:57:51Yeah.
00:57:52Okay, great.
00:57:53Wish me luck.
00:57:55No.
00:57:57No?
00:57:58No.
00:57:59You don't need luck.
00:58:01You're a strong, confident woman
00:58:02and you can handle anything.
00:58:04Just take a look around.
00:58:06You and Gwen did all of this
00:58:07and you didn't need luck.
00:58:10It was willpower, love,
00:58:12sheer determination.
00:58:15You just go out there, be yourself.
00:58:17Everything will turn out fine.
00:58:19Okay?
00:58:19Okay.
00:58:20Excuse me.
00:58:46Everyone, may I have your attention, please?
00:58:48Thank you all for coming out tonight to this benefit
00:58:53in honor of Charita Getwell.
00:58:55And thank you to Elena
00:58:57for providing all of these beautiful paintings.
00:59:01I see many familiar faces.
00:59:04Faces that Charita loved.
00:59:07Ooh.
00:59:08This might be a little harder than I anticipated.
00:59:15Charita was the kindest soul that I ever met.
00:59:17She never once hesitated to help someone in need.
00:59:22She would cry with you
00:59:24and then in the very next breath,
00:59:28she would have you laughing.
00:59:31Her hugs were some of the best I've ever gotten.
00:59:34When she was diagnosed,
00:59:38she didn't let it stop her.
00:59:41She continued to help others
00:59:42and to care for those who were hurting.
00:59:45She never gave her own pain a second thought.
00:59:50She trusted in God
00:59:51and even when she was bedridden,
00:59:54she continued to give that love to others.
00:59:57We really lost someone very, very special.
01:00:03We did.
01:00:04So that's why we decided to hold this art sale tonight
01:00:08to benefit the Memphis Cancer Research Foundation.
01:00:12All of the proceeds tonight
01:00:15will go to helping find a cure.
01:00:18And I know that money can be tight around Christmas time,
01:00:21but I know that Charita would be so thankful
01:00:23if you could find it in your heart to buy a painting.
01:00:27Or there is a box in the back
01:00:29that you may place a check if you so please.
01:00:31Or there is a QR code that you may scan
01:00:34and that will bring you directly to the Foundation's website
01:00:37where you can place a donation in Charita's name.
01:00:40Thank you all for coming out tonight
01:00:42and Merry Christmas.
01:00:53It's really nice, Mom.
01:00:55Can you tell me?
01:00:57You okay?
01:00:58Yeah.
01:01:00I will be.
01:01:01I will be.
01:01:31I will be.
01:01:36Is...
01:01:37Is this right?
01:01:40No.
01:01:42Really?
01:01:43That's what it looks like.
01:01:45But that's what the checks, right?
01:01:48No.
01:01:49I haven't even opened the box yet.
01:01:53We did it.
01:01:55We did.
01:01:55I know Charita would be very proud of us.
01:02:08What does he want?
01:02:10Who?
01:02:12Richard.
01:02:13Nothing good.
01:02:14Nothing good.
01:02:14Don't look at it.
01:02:18Oh, no.
01:02:20What?
01:02:21He said the building's sold.
01:02:23He said the new owner takes ownership right after Christmas.
01:02:26Whoa.
01:02:28Whoa.
01:02:28Yeah.
01:02:33You know what?
01:02:35I am not going to let him ruin the mood.
01:02:38Charita would want us to still be happy.
01:02:41We can deal with that on Monday.
01:02:43If you say so.
01:02:47I mean, I guess I wouldn't want the mood ruined if I had been kissed by a handsome man in a suit.
01:02:52It was on the cheek.
01:02:54On the cheek.
01:02:56Mm-hmm.
01:02:57I know.
01:02:58I saw.
01:02:59He asked if I would talk to him in private tonight.
01:03:10And I said I would, but I was so busy I didn't have time.
01:03:15I bet he's going to profess his love and whisk you away on a Christmas adventure.
01:03:21Stop.
01:03:22Stop.
01:03:24But I wouldn't say no.
01:03:26I know.
01:03:29Last night was amazing.
01:03:44Yep.
01:03:45I just wish we had the energy to be happier.
01:03:49Oh, I'm happy.
01:03:50I just, uh, can't show it on sight.
01:03:55They should have all the checks tallied up by this evening.
01:03:59Oh, great.
01:04:00And have you heard from the foundation to see how much money was raised in Charita's name on their site?
01:04:04Not yet.
01:04:05But I did get an email from one of the board members who said that donation notifications were going off well into the night.
01:04:12Including one $10,000 anonymous donation.
01:04:17Oh, my gosh.
01:04:18That is amazing.
01:04:20You know, Elena told me that she only went home with a handful of unsold paintings.
01:04:24She said that she got a bunch of commissions from patrons of the benefit.
01:04:28That's great for her.
01:04:30She's an amazing artist and deserves every bit of that.
01:04:34Agreed.
01:04:34I really think that Charita pushed this over the top to just make it a huge success.
01:04:40I do, too.
01:04:45Now, I just gotta figure out what I'm going to do.
01:04:48I don't know.
01:04:50Yep.
01:04:52Me, too.
01:04:54Do you think the new owner is really going to tear the building down?
01:04:58I'm not sure.
01:05:00You know more than I do.
01:05:02Well, I don't know if I should trust the information coming from my source.
01:05:06I definitely wouldn't trust him.
01:05:10I can't believe he's blackmailing you to sell the store so he'll give you the nutcracker.
01:05:16I know.
01:05:17He is a bit of a snake.
01:05:20A bit?
01:05:23Okay, the whole thing.
01:05:29Are you going to sell?
01:05:33At this point, I may have to.
01:05:37I wish that we could go into business together.
01:05:43Why can't we?
01:05:45Into what?
01:05:47Open an antique store with a bakery inside?
01:05:51Think about it.
01:05:53The sense of smell is one of the biggest anchors to memory we have.
01:05:57Say, I'm baking chocolate muffins.
01:05:59And it reminds a customer of something from when he was a kid.
01:06:02He sees an old lamp or something else old you have in the store, and boom.
01:06:07He wants to buy it.
01:06:10I don't know.
01:06:11We can combine our stores once we find the right location.
01:06:15Then we'll only have to worry about one rent payment.
01:06:19Gwen, I think you just solved both our problems.
01:06:23Welcome to a little something.
01:06:31Hell.
01:06:33Richard.
01:06:35What are you doing here?
01:06:36I told the new owner to meet me here in a few minutes.
01:06:38Here?
01:06:39Yeah.
01:06:40I wanted to see what he's getting himself into.
01:06:43He might take one look at this place and start raising the rent next month.
01:06:46You'd like that, wouldn't you?
01:06:49Don't you have a donut shop to run?
01:06:51I'm closed on Sundays.
01:06:54Oh, Mr. Porter.
01:06:56So glad you could meet me here.
01:06:58Mary Little.
01:06:59This is Wyatt Porter, the new owner of the building.
01:07:01Mary, you bought the building?
01:07:06Yes, she did.
01:07:10You're the new owner.
01:07:12I just said he bought the building, but do you know each other?
01:07:19Mary, I've been trying to find the time to tell you.
01:07:22I just haven't found the right time.
01:07:23I confided in you.
01:07:26I trusted you.
01:07:27You still can.
01:07:28No.
01:07:28You knew that I was worried about the new owner and the possible increase in rent.
01:07:35You said that you would help me with my books, when all along you were the one who was going
01:07:39to raise the rent.
01:07:41This mysterious buyer who was going to tear down the whole building.
01:07:47No, Mary, that's not.
01:07:48That's not.
01:07:48I can't handle this.
01:07:51So you do know each other.
01:07:53Great.
01:07:53Let me take you next door, introduce you to those tenants.
01:07:57No, I think there's something I need to clear up here first.
01:08:00I don't think you do.
01:08:03Please leave.
01:08:05Mary, it's not how it looks.
01:08:07It's pretty clear from where I'm standing.
01:08:09Okay, I'll leave.
01:08:17Great.
01:08:18So this next door is a clothing store for kids, but lots of traffic.
01:08:30I'm so sorry.
01:08:31What a day.
01:08:47You can say that again.
01:08:50My dogs are barking.
01:08:52I can't wait to get home and put my feet up.
01:08:54Oh, I hear you.
01:08:56These last-minute Christmas shoppers get worse every year.
01:09:01Yeah, but I sure do love them.
01:09:05Yeah.
01:09:07I noticed one of the big items sold today.
01:09:11Didn't Wyatt bring that in?
01:09:15He did.
01:09:19He's a great guy.
01:09:22I haven't seen him around in a few days.
01:09:26Yeah, he's been busy.
01:09:30He does a lot of charity work around the city.
01:09:33I've seen him in the background of a number of pictures from the Memphis Extra.
01:09:38The Extra?
01:09:39Yeah.
01:09:40Me and my wife love to flip through it.
01:09:42We always say, we are going to get our picture in there one day.
01:09:49But you saw Wyatt.
01:09:51Yeah, he's on the board of the Children's Hospital.
01:09:54His family's always had a chair.
01:09:57You didn't know?
01:10:00No, I didn't.
01:10:03That doesn't surprise me.
01:10:05He is about the most humble person I have ever met.
01:10:09He never talks about himself.
01:10:13I'm going to head home.
01:10:15We'll get the grandkids coming over tomorrow to open presents.
01:10:23We always allow them to open presents on Christmas Eve.
01:10:26That way, they can be disappointed in what their parents got them on Christmas Day.
01:10:30Oh, thank you for all your help, Eric.
01:10:35Oh, my love.
01:10:35Today and this whole holiday season.
01:10:38I don't know what I would have done without you.
01:10:40Me neither.
01:10:42You sure are lucky.
01:10:44Oh, Merry Christmas, Eric.
01:10:47Merry Christmas, Mary.
01:10:48What do you think, Sherita?
01:11:02I mean, I have to see him to give him the proceeds from the sale.
01:11:10Should I give him a chance to explain?
01:11:13Did I overreact?
01:11:15Gosh, I wish you were here.
01:11:22Fine.
01:11:23I'll go see you tomorrow and give him the proceeds.
01:11:29Stop looking at me like that.
01:11:45I'll be right back.
01:12:15What?
01:12:17No breakfast?
01:12:18I made monkey bread.
01:12:20It's on the counter.
01:12:21Nice.
01:12:23Wait.
01:12:24It's Christmas Eve.
01:12:25No one's open.
01:12:27I have some business to take care of with Wyatt.
01:12:32Oh.
01:12:34What?
01:12:35Okay, I get it, Wyatt's the bad guy right now, but I haven't seen you smile like that
01:12:44at someone in a while.
01:12:49I know.
01:12:52Just give him a chance.
01:12:54He's definitely not the prince in the Nutcracker set, right?
01:12:57But he still seems like he's pretty important to you.
01:13:02What do you mean?
01:13:05Every time he gives you something to sell at the store and it sells, we get to keep the
01:13:11store for a couple more months.
01:13:12Yeah.
01:13:16He really does seem to come to my aid at just the right time.
01:13:21He's a decent guy.
01:13:23Don't just give him the check, right?
01:13:26Talk to him.
01:13:27Are you giving me dating advice?
01:13:33All right, go.
01:13:34Get out of here.
01:13:36Thanks, sweetheart.
01:13:37Bye.
01:13:43Ooh.
01:13:44Monkey bread.
01:13:57Mary, what are you doing here?
01:14:15Here.
01:14:17The big item that you brought sold in, and that's your part of the sale.
01:14:21Oh.
01:14:25Welcome.
01:14:27Do you want to come in?
01:14:34Yeah.
01:14:35Please.
01:14:36There's some things I'd like to ask you.
01:14:40I thought there might be.
01:14:44Please.
01:14:57You want to be.
01:15:08Goodbye.
01:15:10Bye-bye.
01:15:12Bye-bye.
01:15:14Bye-bye.
01:15:14Bye-bye.
01:15:22Bye-bye.
01:15:22so
01:15:32so
01:15:35i uh i'm i'm just gonna come out and say it why didn't you tell me that you were buying the
01:15:44building i should have told you and i tried a lot
01:15:50every time something would come up or get in the way and
01:15:56plus i i just really didn't know how you didn't know how you just tell me
01:16:05so
01:16:08i come from a pretty prominent memphis family and i don't like to flaunt what i have
01:16:17so i donate to charities and i try to help people anonymously
01:16:24so you're rich what does that have to do with my building
01:16:29well i saw the way the landlord treated you i mean he almost put you out of business a couple
01:16:37of times by raising the rent if he was doing it to you he was certainly doing it to the other tenants
01:16:42so i approached him through an agent and made an offer and after he got all the money he could out
01:16:51of me i was able to buy the building so you bought it to save the tenants
01:16:57richard said that the new owner was going to raise the rent or tear it down
01:17:10richard just assumed i was going to raise the rent because he knew how much it paid for the building
01:17:16and as far as tearing it down goes i told him i wanted to make some improvements
01:17:21like bring it up to code but he's the one who suggested tearing it down
01:17:26but you were there when gwen and i were talking about the rent
01:17:30yeah and i told you that that's not right
01:17:35and i assumed that you meant principal
01:17:41i had no idea that you were talking about richard being wrong
01:17:45he is such a jerk
01:17:48yeah i got that
01:17:50so why would you bring me things to sell then if you didn't need the money
01:17:57um well that is purely me being selfish
01:18:01i know how much you love the store what it means to you and i didn't want to see it close
01:18:08and um i like making you happy
01:18:13so i would bring you something from the barn to sell whenever i could tell you were having a difficult time
01:18:20why that is so sweet
01:18:26i'm sorry
01:18:29i thought that you were using me to buy the building
01:18:33i had no idea about all that other stuff

01:19:42how
01:19:47well
01:19:50antiquing is a pretty cutthroat business
01:19:53so when you saw the nutcracker in the paper i got worried someone else was going to try to buy it first
01:20:00i called the owner of the company handling the sale we go way back and i asked her if i could come in and buy it early
01:20:06if i'd have known you were going to try to buy it i would have just told her to hold it for you but
01:20:10why
01:20:12why didn't you give it to me earlier

01:20:17i tried
01:20:19i wanted to take you to dinner and give it to you personally i had it all planned out i wanted it to be perfect but i lost my nerve and i just chickened out
