The media elite gathered at The Pool on Thursday night to salute the 2017 honorees of The Hollywood Reporter's 35 Most Powerful People in Media list. THR News caught up with Arianna Huffington, Savannah Guthrie and more about President Trump.

00:00The media elite gathered Thursday night to salute the 2017 honorees of the Hollywood Reporter's annual 35 Most Powerful People in New York Media list.

00:12This year's honorees include Savannah Guthrie, Megyn Kelly, Charlie Rose, Lester Holt, Don Lemon, Sean Hannity, Anna Wintour, David Remnick and more.

00:22As expected at an event hosting New York's media elite, I was there.

00:26Alright, President Trump was also a hot topic.

00:28A lot of the problems of the first hundred days were self-inflicted.

00:33This is, in all seriousness, a kind of emergency.

00:38With Trump's 100th day in office slowly approaching this month, I asked what one thing about the president has been the most surprising so far.

00:46Here's what they said.

00:47The most surprising thing to me has been his willingness to use Twitter to reach his fans and his supporters.

00:53I think some of the things that are unusual about him continue to be unusual about him, the tweeting.

01:00I mean, it doesn't seem like he's someone who's gone to Washington and changed a bunch.

01:04You know, what I think has been surprising to me is the fact that they really haven't let up in terms of how they've gone after the news media.

01:12I thought that that would perhaps, you know, be scaled back a little bit by now.

01:16We just haven't seen that at this point.

01:17CNN's Don Lemon, who matched my wardrobe for the night, we planned that, said he was most surprised by Trump's Obama wiretapping accusations.

01:26The tweet about the former president with no evidence of anything, and it just continues.

01:32And I think that's the most surprising moment to me, and that he gets away with it.

01:36For his part, Charlie Rose, my new best friend, maybe, may have summed up this particular week in the news best.

01:42This has been the most surprising week of all because he's changed some positions, a number of them, in a sense of calling it whiplash in terms of some headlines.
