00:00Please meet Princess Amonet.
00:04The mummy hits
00:05Theatres Friday, June 9th, but critics reviews
00:07indicate that maybe this mummy was
00:09a force not working.
00:10It's worth resurrecting.
00:12The film, which is a reboot of the Brendan Fraser
00:14starring mummy films and the night
00:15of the 1932 version before that
00:17stars Tom Cruise as army sergeant
00:19Nick Morton.
00:20Sofia Batella as the titular villain Amonet
00:22and Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll.
00:25According to The Hallowed Reporters' John DeFore,
00:27the entry as a whole is a lackluster start
00:29to the darkness.
00:30This is a series of interconnected movies
00:32that will include Johnny Depp's Invisible Man
00:34and Javier Ramirez.
00:35of our Dems, Frankenstein's Monster
00:37among many others.
00:39It's hard to muster anything like
00:40desire for another Dark Universe flick
00:42after seeing this limp, thrill-free debut.
00:45He writes,
00:47Dufour calls Cruise weirdly out of place here
00:49and also finds issue with the film's
00:51which is surprising in that
00:52it makes one slightly nostalgic
00:53for the 1999 incarnation
00:55or at least prompts one
00:56to ask if it wasn't maybe more fun
00:58than we gave it credit for.
00:59Meanwhile, IndieWire's David
01:01Ehrlich goes as far as to call the film
01:03the worst Tom Cruise movie ever.
01:05Out.
01:06He further explains,
01:07It's not that it's bad,
01:08it's that it never could have been good.
01:10However,
01:11it's not all bad news
01:12for the mummy flick.
01:13In a three out of four star review,
01:14USA Today's Brian True
01:16disagrees with the negative notices
01:18saying that the film
01:19is a tomb full of action-packed guilty
01:21pleasure that owns its horror, humor,
01:23and rampant silliness equally.
01:25Entertainment Weekly
01:26Chris Nashawadi also enjoyed Cruise
01:28and Boutella's performance
01:29but felt the storyline was a little
01:31bloated.
01:32He also called Cruise
01:33the film secret weapon.
01:34Nashawadi concludes,
01:35I'm not
01:36sure that this aimless, lukewarm,
01:38but occasionally rollicking take
01:39on the mummy
01:40is how the studio dreamed
01:41that the mummy was
01:41so that its dark universe
01:42will kick off.
01:43But, it's just good enough
01:44to keep you curious
01:45about what comes next.
01:46So, are you curious to see it?
01:48And are you excited
01:49for the dark universe?
01:50Let me know in the comments.
