00:00Good morning from the Fairmount National Park Service.
00:05Thought I'd bring you along, show you what a typical shift out here looks like.
00:10Before anyone hits the trails, we make sure they're safe to use.
00:15After last night's wind, I'm expecting a bit of cleanup.
00:19And sure enough,
00:20it didn't take long.
00:21Branches on the path,
00:23signs knocked over.
00:25Most folks never notice this park,
00:26but it's what keeps the park running.
00:28Clear the trail.
00:30Fix what's broken.
00:31Pick up what shouldn't be here.
00:35Sometimes it's a small repair.
00:36Other times it's restoring access.
00:40No matter the weather,
00:42that's part of the job.
00:45By midday, the park fills up
00:49and that's when the questions
00:50start giving directions, wildlife tips, safety advice.
00:55And sometimes we step in.
00:58Wong permits.
01:00Restricted areas.
01:01Feeding wildlife.
01:02We keep it friendly.
01:04But the rules matter.
01:05The park's flora and fauna are a big part of our daily...
01:10routines as well.
01:11And it's our job to photograph and document them.
01:15It all goes into the park's records.
01:19Giving visitors...
01:20the information they need to appreciate what they're seeing.
01:25Then, sometimes things get a little more urgent.
01:28The radio goes off a lot.
01:30Lost hikers.
01:31Illegal traps in the woods.
01:33When the radio goes off, you drop it.
01:35Everything.
01:40Things.
01:44Things.
01:44Things.
01:45At the end of the day, you're tired, but honestly, I wouldn't try.
01:50This job for anything.
01:55We're looking for a little extra support.
01:57Recruitment for new rangers starts on March 10th.
02:00We're looking for new rangers.
02:04We're looking for new rangers.
02:05We're looking for new rangers.
02:10We're looking for new rangers.
02:12We're looking for new rangers.
02:14We're looking for new rangers.
