00:00Did you know that the French Foreign Affairs Ministry now runs a meme account on X?
00:04Yeah, you heard that.
00:05It's a verified meme account with a blue tick and everything, and it's called French Respond.
00:10Launched in September 2025, the account has
00:15amassed nearly 67,000 followers at the time of filming, and it's still going.
00:20And, in an era where US President Donald Trump's posts on Truth Social make the headlines daily,
00:25French Respond's posts are generating responses.
00:29Recent posts talking about
00:30Greenland, criticizing the MAGA movement and replying to the White House's posts on X have gone
00:35out thousands of likes and reached millions of people.
00:37In the words of French Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Marc
00:40Noël Baho, the account's raison d'etre is to retaliate against content that damages France's
00:45image and limit fake news online.
00:47For example, just in 2025, a viral meme
00:50video generated by AI falsely claimed that a coup d'etat was taking place in France, and on the
00:55European level, Romania saw its presidential elections annulled owing to foreign interference.
01:00And these are just two cases.
01:02At the same time, the account also serves as a detail
01:05of the current, because Baho says, and I quote,
01:07people can be ridiculed by French
01:10response.
01:11And it shows, instead of crafting each post in a diplomatic tone,
01:15the account takes careful aim at hostile claims and misleading information on the platform.
01:20Regardless of the source, people that have already been in its cross heads include former Russian
01:25President Dmitry Medvedev and the billionaire owner of X, Elon Musk, while reaction
01:30issues to the content remain mixed, French response itself has sparked some controversy on home soil.
01:35France remains without a national budget for 2026.
01:37And one Member of Parliament has questioned
01:40where the resources for launching and running this account came from.
01:43So, what do you think?
01:45Is this the future of diplomacy and fighting disinformation online?
01:48Or just the meme of the month?
01:50France remains without a talent.
02:03Love you.
02:05Love you.
02:07Listen to the future.
