US climber Alex Honnold has become the first person to free-solo Taipei 101, ascending the skyscraper without ropes or safety equipment. Thousands gathered in eastern Taipei to watch the climb, which was streamed on Netflix and drew viewers worldwide. Despite weather delays, Honnold completed the more than 500-meter ascent in about 90 minutes, reaching the top of Taiwan’s tallest building as spectators cheered.
