00:00Scientists have just returned from the largest and most ambitious Arctic expedition ever,

00:09bringing home a vast trove of data which will shape climate research for generations to come.

00:14The mission, known as Mosaic, included 442 researchers, teachers, and journalists from 37 countries.

00:22The crew spent more than a year aboard the Polstern Icebreaker,

00:26drifting through the central Arctic while trapped in ice.

00:30While collecting samples, they encountered numerous challenges,

00:33from pressure changes causing mountains of ice to disappear without warning,

00:38to the danger posed by polar bears, including one that came too close and had to be scared off with a warning shot.

00:45The crew worked months on end in complete darkness and experienced temps as low as negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

00:53Describing a chillingly beautiful world in the Arctic,

00:56Expedition Leader Marcus Rex deemed the mission a success with one sobering caveat.
