In 1986, at the Zafar Ali Stadium in Sahiwal, Jeffrey Dujon produced one of the most underrated innings of West Indies cricket. Batting against the Governor’s XI in a three-day match, Dujon stood firm with a superb 126 not out when the West Indies were under serious pressure.

His calm partnership with Winston Benjamin rescued the innings from collapse and turned a difficult situation into a competitive total. What makes this knock even more special is that it remained the only century scored by a West Indian during the entire Pakistan tour, across both Test and tour matches.

The match ended in a draw, but Dujon’s innings left a lasting impression—showcasing composure, skill, and leadership during a challenging tour. Sit back and relive a classic knock from one of the finest wicketkeeper-batsmen of the game.

00:00Geoffrey Dujon turned a quiet 3T game into a statement performance when he carved out
00:05an unbeaten 126th run against the Bronners XI at Zofarali Stadium Sahiwal in 1986.
00:12Westerns were wobbling the innings slipping fast when Dujon took control with calm authority
00:18and stitched together a lifeline partnership with Winston Benjamin. It was not flashy for
00:23the sake of it. This was smart pressure-proofing batting that dragged the team out of trouble
00:28ball by ball. What makes the knock even more remarkable is its place in history. It stood
00:34out as the only century by the West Indies across the entire Pakistan tour including test matches
00:40and the tour matches. The game ended in a draw but Geoffrey Dujon innings felt like a win on its own.
00:46A reminder of the great class and quiet confidence that defined West Indies cricket in that era.
00:52So let's roll back the tape and savor a knock that still speaks volumes.
00:59Ali Ahmed is down the wicket. Balls at one and a good looking shot. It's four runs. A mid-off boundary, well-timed.
01:13And Dujon is now six and the total is 79 for three for West Indies.
01:29There's another thought of that off-drive, up-ish and is unchanged since morning.
01:41That one again on the leg side and it's turned away neatly down to long leg.
01:49The end of a comparatively expensive over and the drink trolley is on the field and we'll have a few
02:06words with direct looking here.
02:11Yes.
02:17Over Peshton that's been smacked away magnificently between point and cover.
02:25Look at Dujon getting into action, gets a juicy half-wally, Manzul bowling from the edge of the crease,
02:34that ball coming in and he pierces the offside field, giving no chance virtually to the fielders.
02:43Opening the face of the bat and forcing that one away for the West Indies.
02:50Another pitched up delivery and that's past Asim Mustafa and down it goes to the cover point boundary.
02:57Manzul has been pitching the ball up to the batsman, trying to bring the batsman on the front foot but
03:10you can see Dujon timing his strokes particularly well.
03:161.06, Dujon goes on to 19.
03:27A good chop shot, racing down towards the third man,
03:31just stopped inside.
03:38Asim Mustafa fielding well and standing in a good return.
03:48Dujon gets three, he's on 27, that's indeed to 1.32 for five.
04:01So that's a well-timed shot but magnificent piece of fielding in the covers by Dujon.
04:09It looked to be going through.
04:14Keeping his reflexes well tuned.
04:17Watch that shot.
04:20Almost looked to be going through.
04:31And this time he makes no mistakes.
04:34And Dujon gets four runs.
04:42He's on 32, West Indies to 1.38 for five.
04:48Well he's waiting for the ball to turn.
04:50Goes back, cracks it past Rizwan.
04:54And it's four runs to cover point.
05:01Back foot putt by a governor.
05:10He's done a lot.
05:16He's done a lot.
05:20He's done a lot.
05:22Under the distance.
05:26He's done a lot.
05:27Dujon got a lot.
05:28Dujon got a lot.
05:29Name is a lot.
05:30leg spinner, Nasr Javed, already got the West Indies into a lot of trouble and that's been
05:38forced away. That's Zahur, the younger brother of Mansur Elahi, acting as a substitute, unable
05:48to cut it off. Overfish delivery from Shah Bhatt, who other than that has bowled extremely
05:59well and kept the batsman in check. Watch that flowing cover drive beating Zahur, who dives
06:07across and remember this is the fast outfield. One seldom sees the bowlers on top on the third
06:15day.
06:17Now this is to be regarded as a warning because Mudassir was summoned from the first lift position,
06:37Mohsin Kamal running on to the danger area and umpire Amanula is quite emphatic about
06:46it. This will go down as the first warning.
06:55Amanula, an experienced umpire, is quite determined not to let the bowlers run on to the danger
07:04of the area without penalizing them.
07:34Short, and that's been pulled away. Magnificent play, four runs, brings up the fifth day for
07:41Dujon.
07:45Well played Dujon, and he needed this sort of in innings to re-establish his confidence.
07:51Watch Mohsin Kamal, hitting the deck hard, it rises but he's perfectly in position, well
07:57balanced. And the right hand coming over the top of the left.
08:02First ball after tee.
08:08So that's a firm shot. He gets four runs.
08:13Means business to a ball that was hitting short in length.
08:19See that again.
08:20Short pitch ball, he goes back, then cracks it to the cover point boundary for four.
08:3156 to Dijon, West Indies, to 188 for seven.
08:3557.
08:46Superb shot.
08:51Four runs to extra cover.
08:53See that again.
09:02Good position, and a searing front foot drive through the covers for four.
09:09Another view of that lovely shot.
09:15He picked up the gap exceedingly well.
09:19It's Mohsin now to Dijon.
09:29Marvellous shot.
09:31Superb timing.
09:41Dijon now to 65, West Indies to 202 for seven.
09:46Watch that shot, played with tremendous confidence.
09:49Perfect timing, perfect placement.
09:51Perfect timing, perfect placement.
09:55And it was a four the moment the ball left the bat.
10:06And that lifted, short of good length.
10:08The rest in the stands, 209 for seven.
10:20That was officially played.
10:21The last one is 209 for seven.
10:36That was uppishly played, but the ball going in the no man's land.
10:44Not a very happy stroke, certainly didn't go where intended.
10:50Coach Mohsen Kamal fired that one, bringing the ball into the batsman, and Dujon, trying
10:57to play the bowler's back drive, the ball must have stopped a little, because that appeared
11:02to upset his calculation, and he hit the ball in the air to 247.
11:19Every partnership between these two, whips it away, and that's four runs.
11:27No problem about that.
11:38Dujon pounding that ball short, and Dujon is getting quickly into position, whipping
11:45it away to deepen the wicket.
11:50And that also brings up the 250.
11:57Dujon pounding, 262, 7-0-0-0-0.
12:074 runs Benjamin, Benjamin, deep square leg position, Benjamin had this stroke, and this
12:144 runs, Benjamin's score.
12:16It's 67, and Chris Indies, 279, 7-0-0-0.
12:22And this is a very strong defense.
12:23And this is a very strong defense.
12:25And the base of the cover, and extra cover, the cover of the boundaries of the
12:29ground line is moving.
12:30And this is a very strong defense.

16:39his even sharper pulling of practicant takes, often with one hand, standing up to the sum
16:44of the quickest ballers the game has ever seen.
16:47He was a permanent fixture in the rampaging West Indies sides of the 1980s, a team that
16:53simply refused to be beaten across his test career from 1981 to 1991.
16:59West Indies did not lose a single test series with Dujon in the XI.
17:03That era of control spanned 81 test matches, delivering 14 series wins and 5 draws, underlining
17:10just how central he was to cricket's most intimidating outfit.
17:15But Jeffrey Dujon was far more than an acrobat with the clubs.
17:19He was a reliable middle-order bat at a time when the wicketkeepers were rarely expected
17:24to carry that responsibility.
17:26Facing the same brutal pace attacks, he trained with Malcolm Marshall, Michael Hording and
17:31others.
17:32He compiled over 3,000 test runs, including 5 centuries and 16 half centuries, averaging
17:38close to 32.
17:40Recognition followed naturally, when Wisden named him one of the five cricketers of the
17:44year in 1989.
17:46And his legacy was sealed with induction into the Cricket Hall of Fame in 2016, a wicketkeeper-bestman
17:53and a cornerstone of an era that redefined dominance in test cricket.
