00:00Okay, good evening and thank you for joining us ahead of tomorrow's Champions League group
00:15face game against Napoli. We'll take questions from the floor. Please wait for the microphone
00:21to come to you. We will begin with Nizar Kinsella.
00:25Hi Liam, I wanted to ask you about the manager you're up against tomorrow, Antonio Conte.
00:33So, yeah, I'm not speaking Italian. Just wondering what you made of him, his legacy at Chelsea
00:39and sort of, you know, following the footsteps of those kind of giants as a manager and what's expected of you?
00:45Yeah, great question. Huge respect for him. Firstly, as a player, he's a magnificent footballer
00:50who then went on to have an incredible and still has an incredible career as a coach.
00:56I think his passion as a player transmits to a passion in his teams and obviously when I was younger
01:02watching Chelsea play in the manner that they did, defensively so strong, Hazard was incredible in those moments.
01:11Yeah, and he's gone on to prove what an amazing manager he is and he's won many titles,
01:15including an incredible title here last year.
01:17Gary, down here please.
01:20Hello Liam, welcome to Naples. Just a double barrel question really, just to confirm that Cole Palmer's in the squad, he has travelled.
01:27He's here.
01:28And you would have seen the speculation regarding Cole Palmer. Is he untouchable? Is he happy?
01:34Yes and yes. It's simple. Cole's an incredible player like I have. The guy sitting next to me, many players in the group.
01:43I'm not surprised at the timing. New manager comes in, all of a sudden there's people unsettled. It's not true.
01:49Cole is here. He's very happy and I can't wait to see him back on the pitch.
01:53And before Monday, any updates on Raheem?
01:56No, not for now.
01:58Peter?
02:01Hi Liam. Chelsea recalled Aaron Anselmino this week. Are we likely to see him involved? What's the latest?
02:09I'm due to have a conversation with Aaron. He's not back yet on Thursday and Friday.
02:14And hopefully from there we can make his situation clearer. He's had a great start to the season at Dortmund.
02:21And I need to have a conversation with him about our future plans.
02:25Question to Moises?
02:26Yeah.
02:27Moises, a question for you as well. You've obviously played a lot of football. Didn't have much of a pre-season as well.
02:33How are you finding it? Are you your fitness? Are you feeling OK? How are you managing?
02:39Yeah, I'm so happy.
02:41Yeah, I think we need to adapt as quick as possible. So, yeah, that's why we are professional footballers. So, yeah.
02:55Matt, down here, please.
02:58Hi Liam. Just going back to Antonio Conte. He's the last manager to win a Premier League title with Chelsea 2017.
03:06It's nine years now. Do you think that's too long for a club like Chelsea? And how many more years are the fans going to have to wait, do you think, for another one?
03:15No, I think for a club of Chelsea's stature, every year that goes by and you don't win a title or win silverware, you want to win in every year that you're competing in competitions.
03:26The difficulty for any club is there's a lot of very, very good teams who are competing. The aim for us long term and in the short term as well is to compete for trophies.
03:36Whether it's too long or not, that comes down to the team, that comes down to the coaching and the infrastructure of the club.
03:42Gentlemen, up here, please.
04:12Thank you for your welcome.
04:15No, this is a very, very strong team.
04:17I think we've been unfortunate in the recent games that they've played.
04:21The games haven't, maybe the results haven't followed the performances that Antonio's team have given.
04:27We know it's going to be a very, very difficult game in a very, very special atmosphere.
04:31And it doesn't change my plans at all because I've been planning for a very difficult game.
04:37Simon.
04:39A couple of questions for you, Moy.
04:41How do you see tomorrow night as a chance for Chelsea to make some kind of statement of winning a ground like Napoli?
04:50A ground, a sort of a statement similar to the PSG winning the Club World Cup?
04:55So, first of all, it's going to be a tough game, for sure.
05:01Because Napoli away with their fans.
05:05So, it will be an incredible game.
05:09We are excited to play this kind of games with a great opponent.
05:16So, now it's Napoli and we are happy.
05:18For sure, it's going to be a tough.
05:20But we're going to do it so well because we prepared this game in the best way to win this game.
05:30And just follow up for you personally, a few yellow cards, a few red cards, discipline.
05:38Do you think that you are judged unfairly as a player in terms of the way you play or is it something you need to learn from?
05:45Yeah, for sure.
05:48I think players don't like to get yellow cards or red cards.
05:55For sure, I need to learn from that.
05:57But that's why people recognize me because I'm very aggressive.
06:03But getting the ball back, not with bad intentions.
06:08So, yeah, I try to help to my team.
06:12That's the way I play.
06:13And sometimes, sometimes, that's the risk I need to, I need to take.
06:17So, yeah, it's so good.
06:19I'm going to keep playing like this because it's my style.
06:23Yeah, for sure, I'm helping with, I'm helping a lot to a team.
06:31So, I will keep doing that.
06:33Gentleman in the second right.
06:34Yes, Daniele Rodia, Tutto Napoli.
06:37I don't need translation.
06:38Considering all the injuries, did you expect Naples in this position in the standings or both in Champions League and in Serie A or higher or lower?
06:47Please.
06:49In football, in the Champions League, in Serie A, in the Premier League, you can never expect anything.
06:54The competition level is so high.
06:57Napoli are a great team.
06:58They proved that last year with a fantastic title.
07:01When they have outstanding individual players, they have a world-class coach.
07:05They're still in the position where they can get through.
07:07We're aware of that.
07:09I think it will make for an exciting game because Napoli have to win.
07:12And also for us to have a realistic chance of the top eight, we also need to win.
07:16Jack, down here, please.
07:19Liam, you said to Gary's question that Cole is happy and untouchable.
07:23Have you had that assurance from the directors as well?
07:26There's no reason for an assurance.
07:28It's so unrealistic.
07:31It's come from nowhere.
07:32There's nothing in it.
07:33There's no reason to have the conversation.
07:35That's where I'm at.
07:36Cole is very happy.
07:37I've had numerous conversations with him.
07:39Our thoughts on how we can make this team better, how he can improve and how I can help him because he loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player.
07:47You can't stop speculation, but some speculation is so far from the truth, there's no point having a discussion about it.
07:55Moises, you've both spoken about the atmosphere that you can expect tomorrow night.
07:59What's the most intense atmosphere you've ever played in and how does it affect a game as an opposing player, a visiting player?
08:08So as a footballer, he's a coach for sure.
08:13I play in different atmospheres.
08:21This is going to be a very tough, but also incredible because Napoli away, Italy, so we're going to expect a shout from the stand.
08:41So it's going to be a very good game.
08:44It's going to be a tough game and we are prepared for that.
08:48Jacob, down here, please.
08:50Hi, Liam.
08:50We've seen that Romeo Lavia is back in training now.
08:54How do you manage the situation with him going forward, given the fitness issues that he's had?
08:59Also, potentially with him coming back, do you think that that maybe means the club won't look for another midfielder this month?
09:05Now, in terms of Romeo, obviously, in his recent history, it's not been what he's wanted in terms of minutes on the pitch, in terms of his health.
09:13What I want for every player, not just Romeo, who is an outstanding, has the potential and his ability to be a world-class midfield player, is that when he's back, he stays fit.
09:23So we're taking it really, really carefully with him.
09:25He has to clear a few more hurdles to fully train, but it's great to see him back with the players today.
09:32And I know his qualities and I know what he can bring.
09:35If we can keep him fit, I'm very excited to work with him.
09:38Moises, can I just ask you as well about Romeo?
09:40The few times that you've been able to play together, it's obviously been a very effective partnership.
09:45I mean, how much would it help you to have him alongside you this season?
09:50As the manager said, he's a world-class player, so I enjoy playing with him.
10:01I miss him because he's a very good player.
10:05He helped me also a lot because we do a lot of things together.
10:12So I'm waiting for him because he's such a good player, for sure.
10:19He's going to do very well here.
10:23Kieran, down here, please.
10:25Just going back to Raheem, did you get the chance to have a chat with him or is it kind of moot if he might be leaving?
10:34No, at the moment I've said what I've had to say on Raheem.
10:38He's a player, I have massive respect for, huge respect for as a person and what he's achieved in the game.
10:43Now it's not the right time to speak about the situation.
10:46Go for the gentleman in the third row, up here, please.
10:55Salve, benvenuti a Napoli.
10:58Ci ha pensato che nel 2012, nel precedente contro il Napoli, il Chelsea aveva cambiato allenatore,
11:05ha incrociato il Napoli, ha eliminato il Napoli e poi ha andato a vincere la Champions.
11:17Yeah, in terms of an omen, it would be great if the same thing happened this year.
11:23But for me, I'm not thinking about that, what I'm focused on.
11:26Honestly, we know how difficult this game is going to be.
11:29We know how important it is to our season.
11:31What I have said to my players since I've set foot through the door is that we have to just focus on the next game,
11:37which we know is going to be a very, very difficult one.
11:39Rob, down here, please.
11:42With Moyes, do you see him still as a young player with a potential that needs to be fulfilled?
11:50Or do you think he's doing now what he was signed to do when Chelsea broke the transfer record for him three years ago?
11:56Yeah, from my point of view, it's my opinion.
11:59As a defensive midfield player, I wouldn't want to sit next to anybody else in World Football.
12:04That's what I think of Moyes.
12:05He knows that.
12:06I've told him.
12:07I've watched him.
12:08Obviously, I have a background at Brighton.
12:09I know everything about his career.
12:11The scary thing for him is that, yes, he is still young, but he plays sometimes like he's 35 years old,
12:17because his understanding of the game is top.
12:19But for me, one of the most exciting things about coming to this club is to work with players of Moyes' level and capacity,
12:28but also to try and help them to improve even more, which I think is achievable.
12:32Gentlemen, in the middle here, please.
12:35Buonasera, benvenuti a Napoli.
12:57Firstly, it's great to see Scott move to a special footballing country and have the success that he's had.
13:05Seeing the celebrations that he had with the team last year, the end of the season,
13:09I'm very happy for him because he's a player, obviously, from Scotland, from Britain,
13:13who's gone on to do great things.
13:16I'm not surprised because he's always been an outstanding player and he's showing that now.
13:20And we know we need to be very, very prepared tactically for his energy and his movement
13:25and his timing in the box and his finishing in terms of scoring goals.
13:29Nizar, down here, please.
13:31Hi, guys. It's just one for both of you.
13:33I just wanted to see your views on Diego Maradona and what he meant for football.
13:36I'm sure from your generation, you probably watched a bit of him as well.
13:40Yeah, it's mad.
13:41I was just talking to Moy about him walking through the corridors of the stadium.
13:45You can feel the history at the stadium.
13:48I'm a little bit older than Moy, so Maradona for me is an idol and it's a special.
13:55You have to enjoy this career.
13:57I worked very hard to be in this position and I understand the history of this club.
14:01Diego was a genius.
14:04He's an icon of this city.
14:06And, yeah, it's a blessing and a pleasure to be able to play in the stadium.
14:11Diego Maradona, what's your view of him and his legacy of football?
14:17Well, I saw some videos from him, for sure.
14:23He's a legend.
14:25He's an icon.
14:26He did a lot of for this sport, so we need to be grateful because we, well, I saw in videos to him.
14:39And he did so well and for sure, it's the, that's why this stadium called like this, like him.
14:49So, it's so special to be here playing this stadium.
14:54For sure, it's going to be so nice tomorrow.
14:57Okay.
14:58If there's no more questions, we'll end it there.
15:01Thank you, guys.
